Comments about ‘Details about the bundled education and tax bills’

Utah needs math education improvement. Math education has deteriorated seriously since I went to school in Utah years ago. Yes we teach subjects such as Geometry earlier than we used to, but we don't teach them as well. Much rigor and many important topics have been taken out of Utah math. Education specialists confuse teaching a subject early with teaching a subject well.

Utah needs to pay all of its teachers more. We need to provide teachers a comfortable living if so that we can expect them to devote their full attention to educational quality. My hat is off to Utah teachers doing as well as they have, while being among the lowest paid in the nation.

I hope that the legislative committee and the legislature will bring Utah teacher pay up to national average or better and that the legislative committee will restore math education to what it used to be, before it was gutted by math education professionals.

Just who are these "math education professionals"? Rarely is a teacher's input given heed, so I'm wondering who is deciding the math curriculum...
