I live in Africa, I try to help those in need. We were at an orphanage of 600 on Saturday. I just got back from church this morning. Utah helps a lot of people, we have organization and caring hearts. I hope we can find a way to bridge the gap from knowing of this problem and actually taking some action as this kind woman has. By their fruits you will know them.

I don't personally know her, but Veronique is a gift to all of us. Her selfless giving and sharing lifts us and renews our faith in humanity. Thank you Veronique, for offering a helping hand to those in need.

I'm not generally a reader of the Deseret News and usually prefer the New York times because of the quality of the stories and photography. I have to say that this was a wonderful piece about a truly selfless woman that we should all learn from. The photography was on par with the best I have seen.

This is a story of true unselfish service to others. I hope and pray that all of us can learn from Veronique's dedication and in some way repeat her actions. There is never a shortage of people in need of our services be they family, friends or complete strangers, like Veronique we need to step out of our comfort zones, roll up our sleeves and get to it.
Thank you Veronique for being such a shining example to the rest of us.

We subscribe to both the Deseret News and the Tribune. Lately, with stories like this one, the Deseret News has been much better--both in content and quality. I was really moved by the story about Veronique. The photos were remarkable. I was happy to see a photo of such hopeful humanity on the front page.

Most of the Posters making their PC Comments do not have a clue what this lady has put her self up against. The New Owner of the property was tacky at best but legal and within his/her rights. Does that make it better for the people who need help? No it does not. Basically the owner(s) cleared their building of what they might have considered a danger to their property. Taking Section 8 means you have to put up with certain Government Actions. Perhaps the Rental Market is strong enough that they no longer had to do that. Tough on the people but legal. If I lived in Salt Lake (brrrr) this is the kind of lady I look up and offer to help. The children need to be thought in order to fit in and accept our culture, The females need to be thought to be strong and Not Victims. As long as it is a Hand up and not a Handout thing then I wish her well.

Hartland's owner is evicting the low-income people because these apartments are next to a gulf course. He will raise the rents so as to make others want to rent the apartments think they are getting a great deal living near the gulf course. He will be very choosy about who he rents to also which means even if you can afford to live there - if you're hispanic/latino, black or any other non-white ethnic group he will not rent to you. This in and of itself is a form of discrimination.

I was afraid the audio in the slideshow would be the writer jabbering away. The mix of Veronique's voice and the background sounds of the people she's helping was a great complement to the images.
