I'm a Coug and work at the U. I recently was in a conference where Boylen was
the motivational speaker, 30 mins. I have to say, I honestly was motivated. I
like the guy and think he will do well with the Utes. You could tell
he knows the game and loves to coach. He's got an uphill battle witht he team
handed to him but I think they will be competative shortly.
That McClain fella that used to coach at Wyoming was a lot funnier to watch than
Boylen. McClain's facial expressions and his hair all over the place. That
dude was a riot.
I have heard about Boylen's antics, and am not sure what to make of them, but I
imagine as a total package they are probably preferable to those of Majerus.
And I also agree that he will likely have some very good teams going forward; I
am already impressed with how closely they played BYU both games this year. I
hope Utah fans will not be too hard on him if he doesn't have quite Majerus's
success though--BYU is now, and likely will continue to be, good enough in the
future that Boylen will not have Majerus's luxury of consistently getting the
best talent in Utah to bolster the occasional stars found out of state (or in
Jim Boylen is the most annoying coach I have ever seen on the sidelines. He is
former Wyoming Coach Steve McClain with better teeth!
I love how Scott Pierce is able to pull from all the comments we've been making
during the past month to put together his news story. Boylens' WWE- WWF-like
antics; each team getting equal exposure instead of more exposure for the top
teams; CSTV and Versus not picking up top MWC games when mtn skips them; the
cheesiness of mtn broadcasts. Yep, been there, done that.
Rarely do I agree with at BYU fan about such issues, but that is a well scripted
comment. I don't know what people's expectations were, but Boylen has done a
great job this season, and will make Utah a perennial top 25 program. Relax
I'm a Cougar fan but give Boylen a break. He's working with Giacs players, only
doing a MUCH better job of it. At least you guys are competitive in just about
every game, and you have a winning record. With Giac right now, you'd be lucky
to have gotten 10 wins. Give the man a break. Even Majerus was 17-13 in his
first season. He coached 5 years before his team even made the NCAA
tournament. This is his first time around as a head coach, running a
program with some history. He may be animated, but I'd be frustrated too if I
watched my team fold down the stretch as often as his players have. Give him
some time to get some IQ guys. He's got talent, yes, but the b-ball smarts
aren't quite there.
you can only get one championship a year so boylen cant bring a lot of
championships to the university. it takes one year at a time and jimmy b will
get it running pretty soon
I love Boylen! We're already improving. It might take a few years, but we'll
have an awesome team!
To Texas Ute: Championships will come! Boylen is doing wonders with marginal
talent. The players love him. He loves the game and his passion takes some
of the pressure off the players. Once he gets some talent recruited in, we will
have these obnoxious BYU fans crying in their soup.
What happened to all those championships Boylen promised when he hired on?
By the way, when BYU and Air Force tip off in Provo on Saturday at 7 p.m., CSTV
will be in the midst of a college hockey game between Ohio State and Miami of
Ohio. THIS IS AWESOME!!! FINALLY A SPORT WORTH WATCHING!!! See you at the Frozen
Who cares if Boylen is great on TV? No one can see him on TV. And not just
because it's not on TV but because there is no reason to watch the Utes. We
stink, pure and simple. You couldn't pay me to go to the Huntsman Center. Oh,
yay! I paid $15 to watch Kepkay blow another game because Boylen doesn't make
him go to math class. Furthermore, the Utes are not going to be on TV anytime
soon. I really hoped we could go to the NIT this year, but realistically, we
aren't even good enough for the women's NIT. We have gone from conference power
to conference cupcake--and all Boylen has not reversed that; rather to our
non-success, he has added the title of conference sideshow. Well, I'm Boylen
mad! We're awful, and BYU is Top 25. It makes me sick!
I would like to echo your sentiments Mr. Yeah... Boylen will have
the Utes at the top of the heap in the not too distant future. I love watching
him on the sidelines, and the passion he brings to the mic. The "wobbly reid"
smack was funny, not nice, but funny.
yeah he is animated. I guess he really cares about what he is doing. The Utes
aren't a great team - we knew that going into the season. Boylen does have them
competing though - that is something that did not happen last year.So all of why fans enjoy your time - because as good as your team is, our
lousy team has been in both games this year.I guess if Boylen gets
really bad the U could hire a public relations specialist...kind of like the why
did for Roger Reid a few years ago.GO UTES!!!
From Coach Fat to Coach Act.
Boylen fits Utah's motto except you left off the "...Snow-JOB...".
he still is no where near as fun to watch as was"wobbly reid" at the zoo a
few years back
The guy is an embarassment...but then so is his team.
Within three years (this year counting as the first), Boylen will be as animated
as ever, and he will have the Utes in contention for the conference championship
I have not seen anything that is not endearing with Coach Boylen. He entertains,
yes, but he also seems to know the game of basketball. I think the wins will
The Circus is in town...starring Jimmy Boylen...just wait until that act wears
off...and the losses continue to pile up.
