Isn't this the same cannon that thought the state of Utah shouldn't be able to trump federal law with immigration last week? You could easily change "pornography" and "illegal immigration" and he would totally contradict himself. Utah valley, you should be embarrassed to have him represent you.
Gee, doubletalk AGAIN from a Republican?
First, Huckabee says that the Constitution is sacred, then in the next breath wants to amend it because "marriage is being attacked".
Cannon needs to join his (meal) ticket.
Good for Cannon! Why a judge in the 9th Circus should be able to tell Utah that we have to let kids look at every deviant image San Francisco throws our way is ridiculous.
Yeah, Cannon is a little weak on immigration (although he at least votes for everything like the fence and stuff like that). But on everything else we care about, I like Cannon. Porn, taxes, federalism, etc. Cannon is better than that Democrat Chaffetz or Mike/Dave Leavitt!
So...aside from the clear double standard of this particular politician/party - this law specific to pornography legislation being confined to state jurisdiction makes sense. Think about it. The Supreme Court's obscenity decision/definition in Cali some odd years ago demeaning anything "Harmful to a minor" and considered of "prurient interest" based on a "community standard" is much more effectively evaluated than trying to dictate a United States community standard - reaching from California to New York - by keeping it to a State "community standard." It carries a more plausible environment for enforcement.
First of all, San Francisco is not the Boogey Man. Second of all, this is about asking Dad because you don't like the answer you got from Mom. This shouldn't get passed, because it's a dangerous precedent for other more malicious laws that limit peoples' rights. Cannon knows it won't get passed and is simply wasting time and money in the legislature so he can say that he's a porn-fighter come election time.
If parents would be parents and not their kids' friend they would be able to steer their kids away from porn and make bills like this a thing of the past. And I thought the Repubs were for smaller government.
oh come on.....this is a clear attempt to stop our right to view what we want, just because they are prude doesn't' mean ever one else needs to be. there is a lot of open minded people in Utah, and there is even porn FILMED and PHOTOGRAPHED here just like every other city in the entire world. you can't stop it. its going to happen laws or not.
Cannon and Huckabee should not be used in the same sentence. It sounds like you should move to San Francisco. Jim Matheson is stopping trash from being dumped here and Cannon is stopping porn which are both the same thing as you are. Get out of Utah and vote for
Huckabee who lets criminals out of jail and resembles more of your personality type of being white trash.
Cannon believes in states rights for porn but not for immigration laws. This guy doesn't have a solid foundation!
Vote this joke out the next election.
"If parents would be parents and not their kids' friend they would be able to steer their kids away from porn and make bills like this a thing of the past."
You missed the point. The point is... do you want your neighbor to decide for you what pornography is.
"And I thought the Repubs were for smaller government."
Smaller federal government.
