I have a good friend who is a big UNM fan, and they all hate BYU, just like he does. It's always fun to ask him, "so, did you hear about the UNM/BYU game?" We can also ask ute fans, "so, did you hear about the BYU/u game?" Love it!
Great game Cougs! Way to pull that one out in the clutch against a very hostile crowd!
If I don't recall, New Mexico was 19-1 at home. New MExico is a tough place to play and BYU went in and won in the clutch.
Please tell me 1 top 25 team that Utah has defeated! BYU on the other hand defeated Louisville and hung with #1 UNC. I hope that BYU plays the Utes in the tournament. I will love to read the poor excuses after BYU defeats Utah for the third time this season. (I'm sure that the refs will be bad or the game clock will be off or something that just happen to give the victory to BYU) I love it!! You Utah fans just make me laugh!!
Point is, it's a tragedy that some of the schools in the conference have such classless fans to do such things as throwing stuff on their teams courts or at opposing players, then coming down to the court after the game to taunt them even more.
I'm glad to know that as obnoxious as some fans from both BYU and Utah, that neither school seems to produce fans as low-class as UNM and UNLV have demonstrated over the years, even when the officiating is bad.
It's good to know that most of the coaches in the league still have more class than their fans. I think SDSU's Fisher, Utah's Boylen, UNLV's Kruger, and BYU's Rose are all examples of great coaches with great class and it reflects on their players.
BYU deserves better opponents that take the game seriously and can compete in the top eschlion of the confernce. When the Utes get serious again, then they could reschedule them... just for old times sake. :)
Go BYU!
That is how championships are won. The team just gutted it out. A few more games to go.
Go Cummard!
The best player in the league put his whole into the game until he had to watch it from the bench (Crazy that they could miscount and give him 5 fouls, when he had only committed 4).
Go Trent!!!
Funny how teams in the league depend on you missing free throws to give them a chance. Oh, the irony. Fouling you at the end of the game, didn't win it for UNM, and likely is the definitive moment for a championship season. Nothing the opposition could do mattered. With your own team depending on you, you came through for them.
Awesome win! Awesome season!
You Kewger fans are never willing to admit to things like this. There is no shame in acknowledging that your team benefited from this no-call of an obvious foul.
Furthermore, your teams have gotten lucky several times in both football and basketball recently. Yes, you can all say that is what separated the good teams from the mediocre teams, being able to pull through at the end of games. There is probably some truth to that, but there sure are a lot of little Kewgers that are doing a lot of gloating. You got very lucky against both Utah and UCLA at the end of the football season. If the didnt intervene in those games youre team would have finished the season unranked. Likewise, your basketball team has a number of controversial wins this year. My point is the ball isnt going to continue bouncing your way forever. Id consider cutting back on all the gloating a little.
The Cougars are the best basketball team in the history of the Mountain West or WAC conferences. They will continue to dominate the league for years to come and should go independant. If we were in the PAC 10 this year, we would dominate the league and we would have deservedly earned a top 5 national ranking. The MTN television network should show all BYU sports all the time if it wanted to have the highest ratings.
Here's to another first-round loss to a more athletic team. *Yet, do not fear fans in blue, at least you have that nationally ignored, disrespected, and (believe it or not) locally meaningless regular season MWC championship to look forward to again next year.
*This applies to all teams belonging to the Mountain West Conference.
Remember this simple fact: When the refs don't call a foul, it doesn't exist. Plain and simple. The refs missed plenty of calls last night, as they do every night. They're human. It sucks, but that's the reality.
Believe it or not, that was not the only game-altering no-call last night. There are always going to be no-calls, and whining about it will only make your pain worse.
Heck of a win over a great team in front of 18,000 animals last night, Cougs.
How about Blaine Fowler(ex-BYU football player)broadcasting basketball games and Todd Christensen(ex-BYU football player) broadcasting football games. Both of their sons are recent BYU football players. See any bias there? Didn't think so.
You are right about one thing though: BYU fans should not gloat. As a true-blue Cougar fan I hate seeing that from fellow fans.
It's obvious that Plaisted did not commit "that foul" at the end of the overtime last night because no foul was called by the refs. Rarely are fouls called in the last couple of seconds at any level of basketball.
Most likely BYU teams/sports will experience a downturn in some future season. However, luck has had nothing to do with their success the past two years. The football and basketball teams have won because of superior coaches and coaching, determination, effort, and perhaps superior athletes. The Utah games and UCLA are proof of this; neither luck nor officiating was involved. Deal with it!
And to Ms. Conference Champs?? poster. If you actually believe what you wrote today then you should have a responsible adult drive you down to Provo and check you in to those accommodations the State provides on East Center Street for a few years.
Contact -- Yes!!!
Foul -- No!!!
Easy there angryman.
Youre assessment of the Utes is just wrong. They arent at the bottom of the pack. They are right in the middle. It pains me to say it, but it is what it is. And yes, BYU is at the top right now. But like I said before, they have gotten A LOT of very fortunate bounces along the way and that wont last forever. And if our team was soooooo bad, like you say, they wouldnt have beaten UNLV and the conference champion would be split. Maybe you should give us just a little credit.
You didnt take my advice; just continued gloating. But ask a Kewger fan and theyll tell you how much class they have. How much gloating were you doing when the Utes dominated the Kewgers for decades?
Many (Crowton, Reed, Cleveland) saw the whole academic standards / Honor Code as an obsticle to a winning program that needed to be "worked around" and massaged.
Holmoe has the vision that those are pillars of a winning program and built on them.
That is the equivilant of the wise man who built his house upon the "Rock".
That is why Austin Collie's statement, while irking LDS Ute fans everywhere, is the program's philosophy, and when people "buy-in" to that kind of philosophy, success follows.
Is it going to be sucessful? -- Yes.
Is it going to be difficult to be a Utah fan -- It only follows that it will.
Much will be written about it in the future, but BYU's program will reach a prominance in all sports never imagined back in the glory days of the 1980's.
That likes to live in the past... Well while your in the past and your still counting on the glory days to make you feel all warm and fuzzy cause things suck right now for ya, remember that you had a chance at the Championship, and lost! Thats great you got close and all... I admit, that was actually a fun team to watch.. But where are you now? BYU actually has National Championships but you don't see us living in the past, but maybe thats cause we're at the Top of the Mountain! Stop living in the past Anonymous... Welcome to the present
I agree with the original post. And yes, luck exists in sports. Sometimes it is in your favor, sometimes it isnt. Kewgers have been pretty fortunate in a lot of games recently (going back to the football season).
Last nights (on the road no less) win by BYU over the Lobos just doesn't seem fair does it? However, I sure do appreciate your support for my good friend Bruce Springsteen this past year.....oops, sorry I meant past couple of years. No one deserves more "compassion" than you Utes......... Yes,Compassion...(a big word used a lot at Deseret News and in Utah these days).....Personally I hope you NEVER DO get tired of listening to Bruces' "Glory Days." Myself, I like "Dancing In The Dark"....sort of has that celebratory atmosphere to it....you know??? See you next year Uteys.
Too bad I couldn't see the game to comment on all the calls, Blast the .mtn.
No matter what they say the Cougs played hard & earned the best team in the MTn West
which could get a shot in the NCAA title. The rest of the loosers shut up!, let's just pray they can represent us West schools in the finals. Amen.

No, we are not going to the final four. No, Cummard and Plaisted will not be lottery picks and no, this team does not rival the best MW or WAC teams of all time.
But yes, this team is going dancing, yes, this team beat your Utes twice and yes, your Utes will be lucky to make the NIT this year or next.
If you want to talk sports smack with BYU, stick to the four events at which you are better than us: 1) balance beam, 2) uneven bars, 3) floor exercise and 4) vault.
