Not good enough

If they want to move into the 21st Century, then have a bar be a BAR not a "private club".
Tourists laugh at the notion, so do the locals.

in shock

This is a vote that should have been put to the public. i don't think this law in any way is good for utah's image and for people who go to privet clubs it will be just like in some states that have dry county's , they will drink before they go because they cant get what they want in the clubs they go to and this will put a rise on DUIs for people between the age of 21-27. its a bad move for Utah, and as far as alcohol pops, don't you think a TV add for Beer is more viewable then walking down the beer Isle at a store?

Additional side alcohol as a different flavoring. Who do THEY really think THEY are kidding?

THEY pretend to protect Utah from the evil of a 2.5 ounce drink by myopically eliminating the direct side-car. Neat, with their all knowing protection and control, were all finally safe from Demon Drink. The Legislature has done its usual snow job. Senator Bramble has proven once again that he is the champion of righteousness.

In their shortsightedness (self-righteousness) these defenders of public morals overlooked one tiny characteristic of most members in private clubs, and other such patrons of spirit purveyors. Drinkers of evil firewater generally love to imbibe in the company of fellow tipplers.

No one, except the inane writers of these never-ending efforts to PRETEND that alcoholic beverages are realistically controlled in Utah, should ever be surprised at the following scenario which will surely be played out immediately upon elimination of the side-car.

Due to the loquacious nature of the participants, and their inability to get everything done within a 200 word limit, that script is included in the next post.

Two good drinks, coming up!

Drinker: Bar-Keep, Ill have a Rum & Coke. Oh, throw in a side-car of Gin.
Tippler: Good man who tends our bar, could you kindly provide me a nice Gin & Tonic. And, if you please, I'd appreciate a wee side-car of Rum with that.
BarTender: Gentlemen, your drinks . . . exactly as you separately ordered them. Have a good evening.
Drinker & Tippler, smiling slyly at each other, winking at the retreating BarTender and thumbing their noses at the foolish Legislature, simultaneously ask: Hey, Buddy! Wanna trade side-cars.

Neat. SB211 lives up to, and maybe even exceeds, expectations for Liquor Control in Utah.

Even we non-drinkers often laugh at this ongoing Utah Liquor Control joke.

X-Utah Resident

The liquor laws of Utah have been a joke from the days when a drinker taking his own bottle to a night club had to keep the bottle on the floor and pour his drinks under the height of the table so he wouldn't offend any non-drinkers in the club to the present obsurd proposed legislation. I think history proved it was impossible to legislate against drinking during prohibition. Wake up and move into the 21st century. Control the purchase and distribution of the product and tax it accordingly, but let the drinker drink. Our industry has made sure no conventions are held in Utah and over the last thirty years has cost the State hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue. We are non drinkers but respect the right of those that choose to imbibe.

hardly believe this idiocy

Utah is unbelievable. Wake up and smell the tax revenues! I drink but I go into Las Vegas or LA for my major alcohol purchases. I can drink what I want at home with no one taking names. I but wine by the case at Costco in Nevada.

Bye bye taxes for Utah. Ya gotta love a state that cuts off its nose to spite its face.
