Alpha-1 is most often misdiagnosed as COPD and Asthma. The usual diagnosis is 7 years and 3-4 Doctors. If you have COPD or Asthma or a history of a family member who died from emphysema you might want to educate yourself on this disease. To learn more, do an internet search for "Alpha-1 Foundation". You can also get information on a FREE confidential test kit through them.
You can research a pending bill on Genetic Discrimination "Gina" (S.358) by doing a search on the internet.

I have struggled with the decision of having the brca gene test due to a strong famial history

is there any where we can go for genitic counseling regarding these tests and the implications for our future if we test positve ,
