Chris Cannon is a turncoat american, griveing for the suffering of illegal aliens that are terrorizing and victimizing the american people and our way of life. We americans will never accept rampant and illegals entering this country at will in defiance of the american people and our laws. Cannon should be charged with treason and stripped of his position as an elected official. He was not elected to represent Mexico and the plight of the Mexican people in Mexico or illegally in the United States. These congressmen sit in these offices looking after business and corporate america for the sole purpose to defraud the american people of their rights and liberties and jobs. Their inaction to curtail and stop and even deport the illegls has put american in the biggest financial and economic crisis in our history. It's time for our congressmen to take action, even if it means puting our armed forces, with bullets, on the border of Mexico. It's time to dislodge and remove the cancer of illegals from america as a surgeon would remove it from your body. Completely and forever. What country does Cannon represent? It's not America or the people or Utah.

Cannon is lying when he says he opposed President Bush's comprehensive immigration reform bill. He supported it totally. He called it a "once in a lifetime opportunity to stop illegal immigration."

It really is a crying shame that we Utahns have been put in the position of defending our jobs and services from an invading horde that Cannon, Congress, and the Executive has allowed unchecked. This is the Feds job. They have let it get out of hand and are now passing the buck to the States. The U.S. Congress should step up and force the Executive to do his job, not spread the blame on the rest of us.

I think that most Americans agree with you 100%. I would wager that most people that post on this site against what you have said do not mirror most of us.

Thank you COngressman Cannon for doing what you can to solve this issue in a reasonable way.
Majority | 8:09 a.m. Feb. 22, 2008
People always tend to believe they are part of the majority.

In talking with individuals and groups on the subject of illegal immigration, I have found that Cannon is wrong about what the majority believes. Many don't know how to send them (illegal immigrants) back to their homelands. A huge majority would still like to do it. Most believe they are costing the USA too much to keep them here.
Many people believe that the watered down bill is due to pressure from business that won't survive without the illegal immigrants.
We should not be offering any state or fed money to illegal immigrants. That part of the bill should have remained. The only chance we have to stop AND reverse the illegal immigration is to roll up the welcome mat. Stop paying for illegal immigrants to stay.

We should allow the churches to help these people. That is what churches are about, helping others. They shouldn't have to decide who is and isn't here legally. They should only decide who or how many they can help.

I remember listening to a real tough-as-nails retired border agent talk about illegal immigration. He was everything that the Minutemen and company would love to hear. The question was asked, what do you do about the 20million already here? His answer, if they are here more than 5 years they stay, less than 5 years they go home.

Now I am not saying that I agree with him but the fact is, when this gentleman has that kind of answer it means it is not such an easy answer.

I am happy that Chris Cannon has taken a tougher stand on immigration. A few years ago he railed on the states for wanting to do anything. Now he understands they have a role to play. That is significant. Many Federal laws are enforced by local police, this should be no different.

And if Utah passes that law having our police get tougher, no welfare benefits, etc I will be happy. Being a free market/Adam Smith kind of person I will be happier once they fix the visa as well.

All in all, I think things are headed int he right direction, just slow.

I do not trust Chris Cannon on illegal immigration. Carefully listen to what he says when he talks about the issue. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth. He claims to be against illegal immigration but resists any efforts at interior enforcement. Cannon carries water for the illegal alien lobby. He'll send out flyers to his gullible constituents saying he's fighting against illegal immigration while he's back in Washington trying to pass an illegal alien amnesty. Cannon needs to be voted out of office.

Cong.Cannon and his wealthy brother, the editor of this paper, should offer some of their financial resources(50 % of their present net worth) to pay for the cost of their illegals to attend schools, for health care, and pay for their incarceration in the prisons. That would be a real show of compassion for the tax payers of Utah

Cannon isn't even up to date on the programs! It's now EVerify, DOES work, and takes no longer than a simple google search to get a result on an SSN.

BECAUSE there are people, such as a married woman who has not done her due dilligence by changing her last name, when an error is discovered, the person has 90 days to fix the problem.

Nobody gets fired, nobody gets threatened, none of the hype that these people use for excuses. Once the employer creates an account with EVerify, even the excuse that it's going to take too much time, does not even hold water!

Cannon is nothing more than a puppy playing follow the leader and looking for attention. He cannot think for himself!
my two cents | 10:38 a.m. Feb. 22, 2008
Cannon is almost enough to make me register as a republican so I could vote against him in the primary. He says states should take action, but then names off the benefits states can provide to illegals, not the actions required to deal with the problem of illegal immigration. I'd speculate as to his reasons for being so pro-illegal, but my experience has been that if I do the DMN won't post my comment.
Stewart | 10:52 a.m. Feb. 22, 2008
Rep. Cannon has kept a low profile on this issue since he has been spanked in his past three elections by being forced into a primary, but he hasn't changed. I am surprised that he raised this issue angering so many Third District voters. Those of you that are angry about this need to get themselves elected as state republican delegates at the neighborhood caucuses the evening of March 25th and then go to the state convention and get Cannon removed. There are three other good candidates to choose from, any of which would easily win the general election. It only takes about 730 out of a little over 1200 Third District delegates to remove him and it would be over, no primary required.

Remember a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Political insanity is electing the same individual over and over and expecting different results.

How can he change so many opinions in just 24 hours? Just yesterday the tribune reported on what he said during a meeting with their editorial board and it's 100% opposite of what the Deseret News reports today. Then on the Bob Lonsberry show, Cannon was on for about 30 minutes saying the same things the Tribune reported.

It appears the Deseret news is whitewashing his opinion in this election year, or perhaps the editor (Cannons brother) is making his opinions more politically savvy.

Will all of you in Utah County please do the rest of the state and the entire country a huge favor and vote this guy out? He is the biggest double talker on earth! He doesn't get it that if you enforce the law and remove the reward system, many if not most, of the illegals will go home. You don't have to deport them all. Cannon's ignorance on the issue is showing with that remark alone.
Read all the above article and you will see he is totally out of touch with the majority of Americans who understand that anything that allows lawbreakers to stay here for any reason is AMNESTY!!!
He is completely in the pocket of big business, the Chamber of Commerce, and others. He thinks the majority of people in Utah want a path to citizenship for illegals which means he hasn't bothered to read his own brothers' newspaper from a few weeks ago that had an article which included a poll showing that most Utahns want illegals removed through enforcement of existing laws.Cannon has his own agenda on this issue and it isn't ours!He is relic.
Well Chris? | 5:02 p.m. Feb. 22, 2008
I guess it's time to get things going. Get something done about this #1 problem righ now. Get off the Good Ol Boys network. People are mad at you.
Jack | 5:26 p.m. Feb. 22, 2008
I don't think Cannon changed his position. #1, he is right about the Swift raid. They got fined for asking all latino applicants "too many questions" according to the gov't, and then they get busted for hiring illegals? You can't have it both ways.

And E-verify DOESN'T work. I know this because having friends who are employers tell me that the only thing E-verify does is match a name with a Social Security number. They can't use the IRS Database because a federal court said they couldn't. So Cannon is right about that too.

I love all of these "kick em all out" people. They are the same ones who will be screaming when the gestapo knocks down your door demanding to see your papers.

ANd really? David "Mike's Brother" Leavitt? Jason "Dukakis" Chaffetz? Joe "Crazier than McCain" Ferguson? Cmon. Spare me. Leavitt and Chaffetz are worse than Cannon on Immigration and Ferguson is INSANE!
