Yes i think you are right in everything you said and there has been too much sweeping under the rug. Some one better hopes that there is get fair justice to everyone involved and i have a feeling it isnt just one girl> Weall know better than this. Get Real

It will be good when this Lawson thing is cleared up, so Piute county can get to real business at hand.Hopefully things will get better there and the girls can get the proper counceling

And if you are so sure he's guilty and could see these "signs" you're just as guilty yourself!!! Stop and think that Lawson had so many friends because he is a good guy!!! I've been there after he left the school and walked back in the gym, he had at least two dozen kids around him (boys and girls) who all said they miss him and still look up to him!! But to all of you, sounds like those are the few kids in the school who weren't RAPED?? Sounds ridiculous to me! You need evidence to charge someone with rape, and this is a he said she said!!! RAPE and consentual sex are two TOTALLY different things!!! 16 is legal age in Utah, but i guess since Lawson was in a position of "authority" these "GIRLS" didn't know any better? He was wrong to have relations w/ a student (if he did) but RAPE is a bit extreme!

You know ,of course, that if a teacher is having sex with his school students its called rape the girls were not of age some were 14. The teacher is married and supplying the party goods for the girls and the boys. think about it, there is more than likely something wrong with this picture. Hopefully the parents and studentbody will be honest about the evadence and stand by their children so they can have proper counceling and feel like some justice was served
just curious | 11:01 p.m. March 17, 2008
I was under the impression that the school board had obtained a restraining order against Mr. Sweat. (In an attempt to keep him away from the kids until these "accusations" were taken care of one way or another.) If that is the case, then why did I see him at numerous boys basketball games? In one instance he was sitting by one of the principals of the high school visiting and laughing. Does anyone out there know if a restraining order was placed? And if so, shouldnt that principal be in some sort of trouble?
Re;curious | 8:06 p.m. March 18, 2008
THE QUESTION HERE IS, WHY WOULD lAWSON sWEAT PUT HIM SELF IN THE POSITION TO BE ARRESTED AGAIN???????AND THE PRINCIPAL CAN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG? What is wrong with the picture we are seeing?

He will get what he deserves. No one here has the right to judge him. We can all speculate and cast ideas and theories on the table but NO ONE but him and those girls know what REALLY happened. I think that him resigning was the right thing to do, I think that the girls coming forward was the right thing to do. I think that everyone throwing mud and getting bent out of shape over it when they don't know the FULL story, is wrong. This has happened before. This will not stop the world from turning. This will not stop Piute High School from still educating the students. So why let it completely consume an entire tri-county area? Grow up. Get on with your OWN lives and focus on the future of a new year. No dwell on the shady happenings of the past. To err is human, right? Let Justice decide whats in store for Mr. Sweat. Put down the pitchfork and torches and act like adults, not cavemen and witchhunters.

i disagree, i think the community should be upset that this went on for such a long time and no one with the knowledge of the acusations did anything to stop it until now. that is what adults/parents do, fight for their children's safety.
Re: Anonymous-From former PHS st | 4:46 p.m. March 25, 2008
"Fight for their children's safety"..... interesting. So your fighting for your children's safety by sticking your nose into something where it doesn't belong? By trying to take matters into your hands when its something that should be left up to the court system? What example are you setting for those children? That it's okay to meddle in something that you shouldn't? By bad mouthing someone when you don't have the FULL story? By casting stones at someone ya barely know? Yep.... bang-up job on protecting those children. If you REALLY wanted to protect them you would just move away from all of this "big-bad-world" stuff, and keep them locked up and safe from the woe's of the world. I think that people need to get over it. He goes to court soon. Let justice decide. Until then....find something in your OWN life to dwell on (like minding your manners/business) and leave those people personally affected by this alone!

pushing the issue of why he wasn't stopped earlier isn't "sticking your nose into something where it doesn't belong." if you are a former PHS student you knew that things weren't good with lawson. this isn't just some made-up issue that everyone has gotten together, made up, and banded together to get lawson. his fate will be decided in court where it should be, but everyone is free to speak their mind (this is america) and question why this was allowed to go on for so long. if someone had pushed it earlier "those personally affected by this" may not be as many as it is.

i also don't recall anyone here saying they know the FULL story, rather they are upset about why it seemingly continued so long.

maybe you should seperate yourself from the issue a bit and look at it from a parent of teenage daughters standpoint.
RE: Anonymous | 4:43 p.m. March 26, 2008
Firstly, "parent of a teenage daughter", if your so worried your daughter is going to take up with a teacher... clearly it shows you haven't really been teaching the core values and enforcing them either. Maybe you should be more strict with your daughter than with the teaching staff. To "Former PHS Student" I completely agree with you. People need to mind their business. This Lawson fella is gone and no longer an issue in the area. So why is everyone still freaking out about it..... GET A LIFE PEOPLE! If all you have to do is sit around and gripe about someone who isn't even @ the school anymore... ya got problems. Find something better to do with your time.

Deseret News-

Will you continue to follow this story? I was curious as to what happened at his latest hearing.
RE: re annoymous | 9:13 a.m. March 28, 2008
I believe the Lawson thing is still an issue. it hasn't been settled yet. And if you don't know what happened at the latest hearing, theres probably a reason for that..

to RE: re annoymous

Anonymous | 1:19 p.m. April 1, 2008
Becuase you're not supposed to. Duh, if you haven't been told yet, then you don't need to know.

DID IT TO ME TOO | 12:32 p.m. Nov. 2, 2009
Coming from someone who has been a "victim" of Lawson I will say that he WILL get what is coming to him and I feel so sorry for his beautiful ex- wife and son. I hate Lawson and I hope he knows that he has messed up alot of peoples lives and he has to live with that and his poor new wife and baby WOW I hope she is prepared to take care of their baby alone for at least the next ten years.
Another thought... | 3:06 p.m. Dec. 7, 2009
Did anyone research his doings at Escalante???
Thats another can of worms.
