Of course the State should not buy the St.George airport with taxpayer money. I'm a native Utahn that chose to retire down here from northern Utah 8 years ago. This good ole boy politics that take place down here make me sick. This good ole boy group and their cronies have ran roughshod over responsible decision making for too long. I guarantee most of them have property or options on property next to the new proposed airport, just like they have done down here for to many years on all of this rapid growth. It all is defined by one word GREED. Watch closely what they do on this issue
I AM AMAZED AT THE AUDACITY OF THOSE IN POWER IN ST. GEORGE THAT WANT THE TAX PAYERS ELSE WHERE IN UTAH TO PAY FOR THEIR BOONDOGGLE. $200 MILLION DOLLARS FOR A NEW AIRPORT!!! WHY? FOR THE GLORY OF ST. GEORGE. HOGWASH!!!! REGIONAL JETS CAN ALREADY LAND IN CEDAR CITY AND THE AIRPORT IS PAID FOR. THESE ARE TIMES TO BE FRUGAL AND NOT TO WASTE HARD EARNED MONEY ON FRILLS - ESPECIALLY WHEN THOSE OF US NOT LIVING IN ST. GEORGE ARE TO BE TAXED FOR IT. THIS ISSUE IS ONE THAT WE NEED TO STAND UP TO AND TELL OUR LEGISLATURE: "EMPHATICALLY NO!!!!!!".
The state should buy the site and build a soccer stadium on it! It was agood idea for Sandy, why not St. George!
Why that much for an airport that has how few planes per day. they could add to the length of the airport over in hurricane and handle the couple of flights that would land.. or do what people do there all the time. Drive to Las Vegas and get low costs flights from there.
The state should collaborate with private conservation organizations to make the old St. George airport into a park and recreational area for everyone to use. No more development! With state, county, and city taxes, plus the help of private foundations, this could happen
This should be a deal that is largely funded by private enterprise. If private companies are not interested in footing the billor a large portion of itthen the taxpayers should not be involved,
Loved the comment about the soccer stadium. :)
The city of St George and their team of developers want the state to buy the property so that Utah's taxpayers will be on the hook for the millions of dollars of toxic cleanup that will be necessary before that land can be reused for homes or retail. St George and the developers don't want to pay the price - which might well exceed the $45 million price currently on the property.
