Anyone who is spending any amount of time commenting on this article has nothing better to do on this planet.

Oops...guess I better go find something to do.

I am the oldest of six, and I don't see that I received way more attention than the others. Nor do I see that the others are (will be) any less successful. I must say, though, that my brother--the second child--probably got the most attention, because he demanded it. Or my youngest sister, who is being home schooled... that naturally means that she spends tons of quality time with Mom. It all depends on the family. And quality and needs must be taken into consideration. "Equal" time may not mean equal amounts, but rather doing what it takes to meet each child's individual needs, because every child is different and therefore every child requires different attention from the parents.

If only I had a buck (oh wait, I'm in Japan, a yen) for every philistine that chimes in about how "obvious" the research was ....don't you folks have anything better to do than preen your "common sense" in front of us all?

Wish it was really this simple! | 9:03 p.m. Feb. 13, 2008
What about things like the age of the parents when children are born, and where the parents were in the birth order of the family they grew up in, and how close together the children are, and whether or not the family lives near extended family - grandparents, aunts and uncles? What about personalities of children? Some are good-natured and easy to get along with, and others are not so happy all the time...and may get more attention because of that. What about the youngest child, who gets time alone with parents who are NOT lazy, but now realize that things have a way of working out, and they don't need to be paranoid about every little thing.
It would be very convenient if life were as simple as some studies would have us believe!
I would like to get paid to present and publish something as obvious as this!

Is anyone even monitoring this blog? Some thoughtful discussion on the topic would be much more interesting to read.

1st borns are raised by uptight rank amateurs. A lot of responsibility is placed upon the 1st borns and they feel responsible for every thing for the rest of their lives. Don't forget all the free babysitting at too young an age. Middle children are much happier and well adjusted. The study proves that 1st borns are still driving themselves to succeed. I need a rest. (And then I did the same thing to my poor first born.)

Great research Joey or I should say Professor Price. One proud uncle. That was a great study.
