Cottonwood works toward police force

The residents of Cottonwood Heights should be outraged that this process isn't more open and fair. The city should be advertising the chief's position and conducting interviews. Just appointing someone seems unjust. But then again, if people are connecting the dots, this is just one more step in the mayor's kingdom building process.

Why would anyone be surprised that the Cottonwood mayor and council are going to "appoint" a chief instead of opening the job to any qualified LEO. They did exactly what they wanted in breaking away from the Sheriff's Office despite their citizens' disapproval. Appointing a chief, whether it is Lt. Russo or not, is all part of the kingdom building. I hope the citizens of Cottonwood remember this come election time. The elected officials don't care about their constituents, they care about their own power building.

Most the calls the city got, prior to the vote, Were in favor of the change. Except those directly associated with Sherriffs office.

Over 80% of the citizen comments were in support of forming their own police department. Get your facts straight before you accuse and demean.

When I called to express my opinion I was told by the city staff that the majority wanted to keep the sheriff's office. In talking to my neighbors and to people at my daughters school I came to the same assessment, Most people in CH wanted to keep the sheriff's office and most called to record their support. I can only presume that Clueless is one of the mayors cronnies and is claiming incorrect information.

Most of the residents were in favor of staying with the sheriff's office. And to set the record straight, most were NOT affliated with the sheriff's office.

I was at several city meeting discussing the police service. I take exception to the statement, everyone opposed to this was from the Sheriff's Office. I spoke againts the city polce concept and am not in anyway affliated to the Sheriff's Office. As I remember, only two Sheriff Deputies spoke, a man and a woman. And the male deputy gave some of the most compelling reasons to stay with the Sheriff's Office and he lived in the city. I did not get to vote for this change but I will be voting in the next election.
