I noticed one thing.

Kurt Gouvea was the best LB ever to play at the Y --- u know - I think MVP of a superbowl.

He was a running back from HI.

Did you notice how many RB/LBs were taken by the Y.

Someone knows what they are doing here.

Usually RBs are your best athletes - good for special teams, LB and even RB if needed.

Can't get enough of them - even LSU has alot of them.

If memory serves another RB at the Y played TE for the Raiders and was pretty good.

The Y will be just fine.

Dont' forget Leon White, also a top notch BYU Linebacker who made the big time in Dallas.

You obviously feel strongly about the commitment thing, because you keep comming back to it. Of course Bronco wants his recruits to keep their commitments to him: He keeps his commitments to them. he doesn't have commitments to the other kids or the other coaches, so just as they come after his recruits, he has a right to go after theirs. He doesn't, however, do it nearly as mjuch as you give him credit (blame) for. After a coach leaves, his recruits often go elswhere, sometimes by recontacting another school that recruited them (ie. Unga). As for missionaries, He never initiates contact. He only recruits them if first contacted by them or their families. I think he has much more integrity than you give him credit for.

I wish Kaveinga the very best. I wish that he had made a different choice, but I wish that my own children would sometimes make different choices. It is called free agency and it is a wonderful thing. This is a solid kid and he has a great family. No one here can know or should comment about his mission plans. I will always cheer for the Cougars, but will wish Kaveinga the best in his career.

Note to all Kaveinga bloggers: Who cares? No one recruit is crucial to any program. The Cougars will be okay. The big detriment to the MWC and to the Cougars and Utes in Utah continues to be the ridiculous TV situation with comcast. When is this going to be rectified? I see the Cougars continuing to stay on top of the heap in the MWC, which is relatively meaningless anyway in terms of the national picture. Just entertainment folks! Enjoy the games, and forget about it.

Clarification and reminder: BYU plays in the MWC which is NOT a conference with an automatic bid to the BSC bowl games. Soooooo, i am really surprised any top recruits would actually sign with BYU IF the NFL is their goal. So let's be thankful for those players who really want to play at BYU even if it means they won't get into the NFL. Go Cougars!!! Coach Mendenhall has the exact demeanor and attitude necessary to build a great BYU football program and continue the tradition that Edwards began.

Cougar fans are upset because Uona spurned them for a better opportunity. Good for him. Don't be hypocritical and talk about giving your word when they were happy that Uona broke his previous committment to UCLA. Bronco also recruits athletes that have committed (Siliga at the U) do don't get on Pete Carrol.
As for going on a mission, you are all so pious when it comes to others going on a mission, but look at BYU's basketball team.. Paisted, Cummard, are all non or failed missionaries. Haloti Ngata is a great kid who was married in the Temple and has a successful career. Did Steve Young go on a mission. Lose the self righteousness and realize that maybe these kids are doing what is right for them, even in a spiritual sense. Be honest with yourselves for once. Lying to yourself is still lying.

Stop crying about the Lb Unoa we have others to take his place. The Lord will provide.

I attended the Blue and White scrimmage before last year and witnessed Cade Cooper snap his ankle. Max is great, but what happens if he is injured? DOes anybody know what happened to Cooper or is Gaskins legit?

He's a big ute. He'll never support Bronco in anything.
Good sign for BYU | 3:29 p.m. Feb. 12, 2008
It speaks well of BYU that the USC's of the world are after our recruits. Puts us in some good company. I think we have a player or two who kept their commitment that were pursued hard by Florida.

The day we don't have a few recruits being siphoned off by top 5 schools will be the day BYU drifts back into mediocrity.

Good luck Kavienga. I hope you have a great mission and a great career at USC and make the Church proud.
