Clear as a bell

This woman is clearly just after some money. I think someone should sue her for ruining everyone's movie that night. That should be worth several million to me.

This is why I seldom go to movie theaters and wait until they come out on DVD. I can understand the officer's frustration. People seem to think it's their right to talk throughout a movie to each other and on their cell phones. They have absolutely no regard for others. And just try and ask them to keep quiet.....you have a fight on your hands. It's a reflection of our society as a whole. It's pathetic and sad and will only get worse. Road rage, movie rage....what's next?

Wonder Why

Never under estimate the arrogancy of the police, this man has to hide behind his badge and then to "rest" his hand on his weapon. Give me a break, he has a huge ego problem. Our police now think that everwhere they go they are in charge and we are a police state. Congratulations jerk you just proved my point, and the really neat part is he is not even man enough to step up and appologize for being out of control and injuring these people. He needs about 100 years of sensativity training and get his fanny kicked off the force. What happend to "Protect and Serve" now its "Shut up and do what ever I say". This officer would not last three minutes in this world if he did not have a gun and a badge to hide behind. The law suit is way too small for and should be based on this officer's ego which is well worth over millions.

Hope they win the case and then when they do they need to sue the Sheriff's office for mis-use of authority.

I am a cop

Looks like both parties share the blame here (like usual). All the deputy had to do was to go to the theater manager and complain. Who would sit through an entire movie while somebody else was talking? On the other hand, sounds like there are no actual injuries. The deputy should have been disciplined by his department, maybe even fired. As far as money in a law suit? It should have never got to court.

Cop wrong,

Curtis already settled. Come on. Clearly this cop was in the wrong. Hot head. I'm sure he asked politely too. Please!! Yes its true, people who are talking and then asked to quiet down often want to brawl over it. Silly!
I doubt Curtis was polite when asking and sure he (a trained cop with a gun in a crowded theater) felt threatened by the woman. Come on.
She should be compensated, absolutley.

Fredd

Can you people read? A witness said she didn't hear them talking. And the witness saw the cop shove the woman. A lot of cops are arrogant and think that they can use their official status for personal power.

mamapapaluv

Wonder Why is right. Cop will be exonerated, given a pay raise and a medal and the woman will be sentenced to 30 days in jail. It's Utah.

Robert

Too many of our law enforcement officers don't have the maturity necessary to handle situations like this one where conflict avoidance is the answer. This policeman (off duty) could have complained to the management or found another seat in the theater. At the least, he could have simply asked them to quiet down, and if they didn't, he should have chalked it up as a bad experience. That's what most people would do. Now he's making up stories about how bad things were: the actions of the injured woman made him think she was about to take his gun from him, etc. People like this don't belong in law enforcement.

Fredd is right

The witness said OTHER PEOPLE were talking through the movie, but she didn't hear the plaintiffs talking.

Curtis has only settled with the young man. This suit was brought by the woman who was shoved down the stairs.

Sad commentary

More sad evidence of our society in free fall decline.

SkepDig

"More sad evidence our society [is] in a free fall decline"

Oh please! People always say that. Life is life, the more people there are, the more crime there is, nothing ever changes. People have been saying we're in a "free fall decline" since the 60's when those rebel rousing kids grew their hair long, smoked some pot in the open (and in defiance of the 1940's law based on misinformed propaganda), listened to that "rock and roll music of the devil" and protested against a silly war. Get off it. It seems that every generation thinks that the next is somehow uncooth or uncilvil. I've noticed most people in this world are good and will do good. It's people who think that they are the only ones with "special truths" or knoledge that think that only people who believe what they believe, or those who join their silly little club, are the only "good people" out there. Get a life, open your eyes, and quit being so ignorant.

Karl K.

Here we go, "Blame the Mormons". Wonder what took so long. DesNews, it's time to stop featuring comments on new stories. It always ends the same way.

2 bits

As usual in these type of incidents (UHP-tazer-boy, Brown-lawn lady, Movie-couple) In the end, both parties behaved badly but the majority of the comments will ignore the bad behavior that started the whole thing and just focus on the Cop's bad response to the bad situation.

The couple should have shut up and the officer shouldn't have done all the stuff he did.

2-Bit idiot

Gee, I try to teach my children that if someone says something you don't like, it's not OK to attack them physically.

I guess in your house it's all the same.

RE:Karl K

I missed where the mormons are being blammed, can you enlighten me where that info is, maybe I'm blind but I can't see it.

Question

Why does an off duty cop have his gun in a movie theater? Sure, we need cops but sometimes it gets to their head. They have to much authority and should pay when they make mistakes, just like we have to pay if we make a mistake.

Anonymous

There is no such thing as an Off Duty cop! they are on duty 24 - 7 365 days a year. So yes they carry there fire arm with them at all times. This one officer is giving a bad name to may great ones..

mom

it sounds like this cop had an attitude that needs to be fixed. I hope he doesn't keep his job - with an attitude like that nobody is safe.

2 2-bit idiot

I was saying... both were in the wrong. But thanks for your judgmental analysis of what I said.

So since you are teaching your kids to be like Tazer-boy and the people talking in the movie and the old lady who refused the give the officer her name... I assume we'll be reading about them in these pages someday soon.

You'll notice I didn't say anyone's behavior was "OK". I just said, don't dismiss the obstanant behavior that lead to the incident in all cases, not just the officer's bad response to the original bad behavior.
