Romney drops out of race for GOP nomination

to Hatuletoh - why do they not like Mitt? It wasn't because of his campaign style - I would argue that McCain's tactics has far less class than Mitt's - it's because they were jealous of the guy. As I heard someone say the other day - most politicians hope to be good looking, rich, and intelligent - most settle for 1 out of 3. Romney had all 3 and they couldn't stand him for it. Why he could not translate that into more votes, I'm not sure other than being the new kid didn't help.
Let McCain be the 2008 version of Bob Dole in 1996 - the war hero that is, unfortunately, unpredictable, volatile, old, and not aligned with his conservative base. Let's see if McCain does better against a younger, more articulate, and dynamic opponent (Dole lost by 220 Electoral Votes).
Democrats call republicans crooks.
Republicans call democrats crooks.
Our nation has been run by these two parties fairly equally for many decades now and neither can take a greater portion of the blame. Neither have inspired hope.
We are pawns on a chess board being used by the parties to further party policies. If your democrat, have you ever asked why? Same if youre republican. This is not the United States of Democrats or Republicans. This is the government of the people. If we continue to be divided along party lines we will fall. We must embrace the best of both parties and have a voice, our own voice, not the voice of our parties.
I do not know if Mitt would have been a good president or not, but in the course of his political career, he has been a good example of losing his voice to match what was popular. And that is not what we need now.
We will not have a nation much longer if we dont stop the political banter and embrace communication.
I'll read Desnews from somewhere in the highlands of China.
Watch out for Bloomberg!
Please tell me what this mess from the Clinton's was, I can't figure it out.
As best I can tell it was:
a budget surplus rather than deficits,
buying down the national debt rather than piling on more debt.
Low unemployment and rising wages.
Reductions in the welfare rolls.
The longest peacetime economic expansion on record.
Please do tell me about this Clinton mess.
Also, how come in 6 years of a Repub President and Congress with no vetos (other than stem cells) they couldn't get the job done? Seems like Repubs must be pretty inept not to get the job done in that amount of time.
McCain is a whiny "I deserve to Prez because I was in the hanoi hilton crybaby!" Enough of that. that doesn't qualify you to be Prez.
Mormons should not automatically vote Repub this fall like they normally do. The south wouldn't support our well qualified and conservative candidate, because of religious bigotry. Why should we support theirs?
West Virginia dirty tricks mean turn about is fair play.
Four years of Clinton or Obama won't kill us. They will still defend our nation from terroristic threats. We survived 8 years of Bill. We can survive 4 of Obama.
Republican resurgence in Congress in 2010 and Mitt for Prez in 2012!
He could have saved time and money by just having his guru, Rush Limbaugh run for the presidency.
Since I can't vote for Obama or Hillary, either, I am likely to vote for a third party ticket or leave the presidential line blank.
3 years into Clinton's presidency the deficit was a bigger % of the economy then it is now. While I support a balanced budget, it's funny how you donkeys (bigots it seems by some of your anti-LDS comments) forget how terrible your own 'leaders' are. Obama won't recite the pledge of allegiance, Clinton is a proven liar and yet you're ready to claim either one as the country's savior?
The fact is Romney was the one candidate who MAYBE would have been an honest and responsible president and now we're stuck with 3 terrible candidates and two terrible political parties.
By the way, Huckabee will be McCains running mate in the fall, the evangelicals will have their way in the end.
Huckabee is a bigot?! How? Because he disagrees with you? Great testimony you have there, my friend.
Just in case you didn't know, Mormons say that they are 'the one true church on earth'. This means that everyone else is false. How is this different?
I feel sorry for those who hate mormons. I agree with many others that say we should write Mitt Romney in. I cannot see myself voting for any of the candidates. Things will get a lot worse before it gets better, and people will wish that Romney was our President. He was the best man for the job.
For a man who was supposed to be fighting for a cause, you caved in. You let us down and we won't forget it. You will no longer have our support in future campaigns. You are through. As for McCain, we cannot support the man or what he stands for. Our support is now behind Obama as the lesser of two deomocratic evils. YOU LOSER.
Sweet, he's got mine!
On a more serious note, since you are so quick to raise the fear flag by shouting "Terrorists!", can you explain why terrorist recruiting has increased since we've been in Iraq?
Or maybe you can explain Bush's statement that catching Bin Laden is no longer his concern.
What you don't see is that, as a Mormon, Mitt Romney has lived a life of not being "honest with himself." He has been told by someone else what to believe for 60 years! His ability to think for himself has never developed to maturity (or at all).
Like most Mormons, he was indoctrinated with the idea that you don't take a stand on any absolute value; instead, you listen to what an authority says, then you pray for confirmation.
But that process is heretical (in the religious sense), irrational (in the logical sense), and a far cry from enlightened and independent thinking. That is the source of his "flip-flopping," and that is the cause of his demise as a political contender.
Sorry to all of you who put their faith into a flip-flopper.
Suspends means temporarily stopping.
I'm not a word smith, but he isn't going to pick this campaign back up and start running again this year. So he quit!!!
Even he he does decide to run in the future, like 2012, it is a new campaign and doesn't warant the "suspend" title.
Besides, all we can do is hope and pray that a real Republican will rise up and run by 2012
In my view Mitt was the best of the worse, so I voted for him in the primary... but with reservations.
I suppose the only good news from McCain running and perhaps gettig into the white house is that HE owuld NO longer be our Senator rom AZ.
GURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWwwwwwwwwwL! Gurrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I'm happy you are so perfect. As for us we are voting OBAMA. Sorry about Mitt, he was a nice guy :(
McCain's lack of presence in the Senate, shows his lack of leadership, and his lack of interest in our nation. I understand his past contributions to America, but recent actions speak louder than events that took place 35 + years ago.
Put politics aside, the only candidate that is putting America infront of themself, is Obama. Face it, he is much better than either McCain or the real Clinton.

However, I don't think McCain will win in November. People are sick of George Bush and more of the same.
So here are a couple predictions:
1. McCain loses in a landslide to whichever Democratic candidate he runs against.
2. You'll be begging for Romney in 2012 to come back and try to solve the countries considerable financial problems.
Things are only going to get worse. Hopefully in 2012 it won't be too late.
