Very hot and heavy commentary today. Whew.

When one says they are against "gay rights," what does that mean exactly? Does it mean that gay people, most likely genetically chosen, have no rights under this thing, this short paper called the Constitution? Where does it say that? Huh? And the same about gay marriages? No federal law? Huh? And what happens if two gay people, human beings, yes even in the Mormon community, say they are "married." Do they get fined? Whipped? Told they cannot buy a house? Do they get jail time? How about a scarlet letter on the forehead? BIG G. Maybe forced to wear... purple? My grandmother wore purple. Opps. I always wondered about her.

When we rush to deny freedom to others because they do not think, act, or behave like us, we diminish our freedom as well. If a gay couple live down the street from me, does that diminish me? Take gasoline out of my car? Make my children grow horns or something? My rights stop at the nose of my fellow citizens. And vice-versa. There is an old adage: live and let live.

It is the basis of our freedom. Really.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Huckabee. I voted for Huckabee today and so did West Virginia.

Why, you ask? BECAUSE WEST VIRGINIA VOTES FOR CONSERVATIVES!

Mitt Romney raised the capital gains tax, legislated gay civil unions, funded the state's commission on gay youth, and denied the Boy Scouts from participating in the Winter Games.

I could go on and on. Bottom line: Mike Huckabee didn't!

Oh, and Goerge Romney walked out on Goldwater's convention speech.

CONSERVATIVES RULE!

Doubling up on your prozac is perfectly acceptable today. I think you'll need it to take the edge off all that anger.
West Virginian's aren't alone. | 4:32 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Romney supporters LOVE to drone on about religious biogtry and the nasty media, while also leveling PERSONAL attacks on anyone and anything that sees things differently than they do. You people sure know how to hate.
Let me state this again for all of you who can't get the above skipping record out of your heads:

WE REALLY DON'T LIKE ROMNEY. WE DON'T LIKE HIM BECAUSE HE IS NOTHING BUT A PANDERER IN AN EXPENSIVE SUIT. HE PANDERED TO LIBERALS WHEN HE RAN FOR GOVERNOR OF MA, AND NOW HE PANDERS TO CONSERVATIVES WHILE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. HE IS PLASTIC. HE IS ROBOTIC. HE IS INSINCERE.

That is why we dislike Romney so much. Oh, and PS: I happen to be a MORMON too!

It does not matter about the republicans. My reading and heeding says that democrats have the edge everywhere important. Obama is like a cold nice breeze on a hot day. Hillary has her act together. And, if one of them falls, Edwards is right there. Tag team match. 3 for 2.

Not so for the elephants. They are still poking each other in the eye, and throwing chairs. Tonight will probably be an eye-opener for the public. Someone is going to get a time-out and sent to their room.
West Virginia | 5:08 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Can you say Robert Byrd, the "King of Pork"???

West Virginians are and have been political morons.

I want to see a McCain / Huckabee ticket because a democratic Hillary or Obama victory (McCain / Huckabee are as lame as Bob Dole) would set up another conservative revolution.
LDS Voters | 5:03 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
vote for MITT because they know him, they know his brilliance in government and civil matters, they know his leadership and managerial genius. That is why LDS vote for MITT. It has nothing to do with imposing spiritual views on others...nothing! The opposition fears him because of his superior judgment and intelligence. Even the LITTLE GENERAL fears this...

I just heard about the manipulation of WV and that McCains people teamed up with Huckabee. These idiots who are vying for VP, how many VP's ever become a president? As for me, it took months for me to decide on Romney, but it has taken me a couple of days to know that I would rather have Obama or Hilery than McCain, and more so if he has Huck as his VP. I would rather hear Hilery's screeching laugh for four years than to have those two foolish liberals that act like 2nd graders on the playground. One thing is for sure, conservative people are a dying breed.

I hope they can hurry and figure out the Hillary / Obama Race so I know who to send my check to.

re:West Virginian's aren't alone: Who is McCain? If a war hero who sold out US Milatary Air Routes which got soilders killed to get out of Vietnam decides to run as a Republican after sending his representatives over to investigate switching to the Democratic Party, at least he is a sincere liar.

I am very much looking forward to a Democratic presidency with a Democratic Congress to get a real Republican President.

Obama for President | 5:26 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Sadly, Senator McCain cut a Washington backroom deal in a way that once again underscores his legacy of working against Republicans who are interested in championing conservative policies and rebuilding the party.

Any questions why Obama is the best person to be president?

Every year the Jazz go in the draft after the best "athlete", or ballplayer, not after the position the need.

I'm thinking that is the way we need to look at this election.

Doesn't matter the party, go after the best person.
Will | 5:51 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Re: Ron Paul Folks

Ron Paul does NOT have what it takes to run the country. I picture him whining in the White House and that would make me sick. He focuses too much on complaining about the past and has yet to show a way to take care of things. He might as well be democratic. He just wants to end the war without obviously thinking of the consequenses.

Same problem with the rest of the Democrats. They will work to end the war as soon as possible and send the troops home, and if that day comes that they do that without finishing the job... it will be sad.

Reading these comments is pretty distateful. It is truly amazing to me the amount of hatred and bitternes that comes out of these comments. Unsure who to vote for, I have done a LOT of reading, research and analysis. Several things are clear to me:

1. McCain, Romney and Huckabee are all good men. ANY of them is going to be better than Hillary or Obama.

2. The amount of hatred coming from this website (and others) shows someone has a lot of fear. Fear is easier to promote than facts. Why should we be afraid of Romney's religion - isn't it the same as Harry Reids? We don't have to join it. Lets stick to the issues and cut the bigotry.

3. The news media has been VERY easy on McCain - why? They hate conservatives. He is obviously their candidate of choice. That makes me wary.

4. I have always been concerned about the safety of the borders and of this country. Isn't McCain's position on illegal immigration counter to that?

5. All of the discussion about who is the "true conservative" is silly. These labels mean nothing. Let's stick to the issues.
30% are conservative. | 6:08 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
I like liberalism. San Francisco is liberal. People in San Francisco earn much more than people do in conservative areas. Oklahoma City excels at what? New York and Boston are liberal and more many times more wealthy than Provo. Marin has better food.

A see many of you are listening to Rush. Rush evaded the draft. Maybe, this is why he hates veterans. They made him realize he has never sacrificed for our nation.

Some people lead. Other people are destined to follow. Rush told his sheep to vote for Bush. Bush has ruined the Republican Party. You followers: keep on keeping on. Don't adapt or evolve.

When Mitt looses after wasting all that money. He's a great businessman. Ya...right! Mitt and his adherents can blame bigots. It wasn't Mitt's propensity to lie. The voters hate Mormons.

I'm LDS and I live in California. No one care one way or another what church my family belong to. Reading the Deseret News as shown me, I have nothing in common with the Mormon culture of meanness and victimization. Life's is too wonderful and short to cry your way through it.

You can't win with only conservatives. Do the math.
Hope for the best | 6:14 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
I admire Mc Cain for his service to our Country he went through a lot as a prisenor and deserves a lot of credit for that.He has however worried me since being defeated by Bush in the last Primary.I believe what he has done since then is frightning,He has opposed Bush on many of the issues that were meant to protect the United States Like Gutomino Bay, The Prison in Iraq. The Tax cut his temper is Dangerous haveing control of our Military he will become the most powerfull man in the World.Hope he can keep his tempor under control He did recommend the Surge that seems to be working.which Is one of the few things he has been right about
Many Conservatives will abandon him in the general election.as well as the national Press. He and Huckabee has banded together which will likely give the election to Mc Cain.Looks like we will have to suffer the result. The Econamy dont look good Hope Mc Cain can handle it.I Love this Country and will Pray for the best.

Romney is a great guy and if all Americans were great people i'd say go Mitt! Unforunately with the dems in the equation I fear a real conservative will get nowhere in the whitehouse. Therefore i'm gonna have to go for the more moderate McCain becuase he's the only man capable of getting his hands dirty for our great country!

If the general election comes down to Clinton vs. McCain, I'm not sure I could even vote.
James | 7:22 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Huckadoom and Huckacaust are better words to describe Huck. He is the most ignorant candidate regarding foreign policy, defense, economy, health care, and on and on. He would be an embarrassment to the American and he could never get in.Yes, the republican party loses and so does the American people if McCain were to win. All that McCain has is name recognition and a lot of enemies. Most of Arizona'a republican leaders are against him as reported by the Washington Post and other news media. McCain's own district republican chairman called out McCain as a liar, to the press. He is an emotionally unstable tyrant.

Romney is the finest candidate that we have had run in decades. His ecpertise regarding the economy is necessary at this time of economic chaos. His amazing family and strong values are just extras. Romney is against amnesty, unlike McCain who heralds in amnesty. Romney has proved to be a genius regarding health care and has solid policies regarding Iraq. I will support Romney all of the way to the white house.

Romney has to win big in Califor | 7:57 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
James, I think McCain is the best qualified, and the most experienced Republican candidate. I don't agree with him but I wouldn't have a problem with him winning as a Democrat and could even vote for him in November under certain circumstances. It is men like Obama and McCain who think about specific legislation that comes before them instead of only voting based on partisanship that ultimately make this country a better place while those who vote ,like Romney and the many others in this country, based on partisanship and don't have an understanding of the legislation itself.

Second, I don't think someone who lies and who changes their position on the issues based on the election they are in is the "finest candidate" in decades.

Finally, it's become obvious that Romney isn't going to win. As of now Romney has won one state and is leading in only one. This is out of 15 of the 20 possible states who are holding Republican primaries. The last ones are Arizona, California, Colorado, North Dakota, and Utah. It is likely that Romney will pick up Utah and Colorado yet he would have to do really well in California to win.
Huckabee unbelievable! | 8:00 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Huckabee's Platform: I am a Christian, Mitt is Mormon so don't vote for him; the South will rise again, let South Carolina waive the "stars and bars"; let's rewrite the constitution to be "more bibliacal"; Where is John McCain, I want to kiss his butt...
Feel free to attack good people | 7:58 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
The Absolute Truth, McCain and Obama are the kind of men who can lead, who can work in a bipartisan manner and can unite this country. Obama and McCain will not always agree with members of the opposite political party but they can and will work across the aisle to get things done. This is something that upsets people who vote based on partisanship instead of individual legislation.

The majority of people support Romney and Clinton wouldn't even take the time to read a bill that is before Congress before speaking about it. This is something Obama wants and can change. His position on transparency and participation in government is enough for me to vote for him even if he was a Republican. Some Democrats will criticize Obama for being conservative just like some Republicans will criticize McCain for being liberal but the one thing both of these men have in common is their ability to actually read legislation and make decisions based on what they read. Romney can't do this and neither can Clinton. A Romney or Clinton presidency would need their party to control Congress for them to get anything done. This isn't true of McCain and Obama.

Mormon Democrat | 8:32 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
To those who say that Democrats will have a hay day with the Mormon Church if Romney gets the nomination, I say the following:

The Democrats don't seem to have a problem with Harry Reid, the highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, being a Mormon. It is only the right-wing religious zealots of the Republican party that use religion as a litmus test.
Romney just too much Bush | 8:32 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Whether he really is or not, Romney ended up looking like a better looking, more articulate George Bush and I think the nation has had enough of that by now. This country is a very moderate country and the moderates - McCain flanked by Arnold and Rudy epitomize the moderate candidate. Romney represents the far right and this country has had enough of the extremes both left and right.

Mormon Democrat, you are correct. Democrats don't care if you are Mormon, Catholic, Muslim, atheist, or any other religion. Republicans are the ones who vote based on religion whether they are voting against Romney because he is Mormon or for him because he is Mormon.
Bleak | 9:01 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Will Rogers once said, "There is something about Republicans that you can only stand for so long and something about Democrats that you can't stand even THAT long." Hilary and Barak are socialists. That's not name calling, that is the truth. And McCain will be an enabler. Romney ran a good campaign in spite of some pretty crazy odds. Since when has a newspaper (New Hampshire) ever ran an anti-endorsement and said a particular candidate must be stopped? Oh well. Where have you gone Ronald Reagan? A nation turns it's lonely eyes to you. I don't want bipartisanship. That scares me where these idiots agree. I want someone to stand up to dumb ideas and do what's right not what's popular.

I wrote many weeks ago that Mitt was a looser, and guess what...I was right !!! there is simply no way Mitt could have won the election, he is a good and decent man, just not the stuff that makes a president.I think that the election may well be betweeb McCain and Clinton what a fight that is going to be, but it's pointless at this point for Mitt to continue on, he will drop out soon and go back to Michigan with his tail between his legs and lick his wounds and after a time he will go on with his life as we all do after life kicks us around.
Clifton Clyde | 9:07 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
John McCain is not capable of defeating Hillary or Obama in November. Hopefully the country will be able to survive four years of liberal Democratic policies. I guess it doesn't matter though because, if McCain is elected, it will still be four years of liberal Democratic policies.

So I, an unaffiliated voter who votes his conscience rather than a party, showed up to vote tonight. The person at the table informed me that I was unaffiliated, to which I replied "I know." That same person was already opening a Republican registration form for me to fill out and telling me I'd need to affiliate with the Republicans to vote in the Primaries. I replied that I wanted to vote Democrat. The look of shock on that person's face was cartoonishly comical! Imagine, a devout Mormon voting for a Democrat! It was almost scandalous in my little community. I'm sure word has spread throughout the town already.

Evangelicals want a conservative government. Huckabee didn't cut it, took votes from Romney and now they have shot their own foot because they can't see past the Mormon thing. Now Dr. Dobson revered by evangelicals and Mormons both, says he can not consciously vote for Senator Mc Cain. The Republican party will now implode. 10-9-8...
Huckabee wins!! | 10:09 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
McCain didn't beat Romney - Huckabee allowed McCain to beat Romney by staying in the race and splitting the conservative votes with Romney. Whether Huck is rewarded with the position of VP or not he probably feels like he did his duty by keeping the Mormon out. It may rile most Mormons but as a political strategy you have to admit it was pretty darn smart. The combination of Rudy getting out and Huck staying in doomed Mitt and his 35 million. Smart, smart, smart. Face it - us *4.5 million Mormons will never get any respect. (*I think it makes more sense to quote the actual not feel-good number)

I listened to Mitt's speech tonight talking about all of he things that the government didn't do. Who has been in charge for 7 years in Washington. He was running against his won party! The Republicans had their chance, and brought us war, budget deficits off the chart, corruption, undermining of our constitutional rights and freedoms, torture, and the loss of our role as the moral leader of the planet. W and Cheney brought this country to an unimaginable low point. The American people will bring change. The fractured Republican party will pay the price.
McCain's Lies | 10:31 p.m. Feb. 5, 2008
WOW... McCain's lies paid off! Now he will accept Huckabee as his running mate (Huck was only in to steal votes from Romney and assure McCain the nomination). And UTAH will vote for Barack Obama in the next election!!!

The McCain-Huckabee bigot ticket won't work in Utah, maybe Idaho, California... To win the republican nomination, they have alientated the reliable mormon republicans. Huckabee's antics opened the eyes of Mormons who didn't know better.

Favorite Huckabee Quote: "I don't think people should not vote for Romney because he is a Mormon, just like they shouldn't eleminate me because I am Christian--(i.e. warning southern baptists, Mormon and Christian two different things...Mitt=not christian!!!)"
