Hopefully, our legislators will hear the pleas of their constituents and alter the preferred alternative for the Provo/Orem area! The preferred alternative for this area, Option A, will cost at least $400 million more than Option C with few additional benefits (UDOT's study shows that the Level of Service - LOS - for I-15 mainline and adjacent streets is the same for both options). Even UDOT engineers wanted to eliminate this option for these very reasons, but were forced by local officials to keep it on the books. The assertion that this plan "spreads out the impact" so that not any single area is impacted signficantly is a false hope, as illustrated by the UDOT study. That response is simply the feel good, politically correct answer for local officials that are unwilling to dig in to UDOT's study a little deeper to understand it. This plan is being shoved down the throats of the residents of west Provo/Orem. Many, many residents are opposed to this plan (Go to http://www.petitiononline.com/i15). Legislators should get the facts on this plan before approving funding for something that is not efficient use of taxpayer money.
The longer they wait the worse off things will be in Utah Valley. We're already in a tight spot and population projections are only getting worse, and FAST!
One item that needs to happen first is construction and completion of the Commuter Rail from SLC to at least Provo. Then, when road construction is in full swing, people will use the Rail. When they see how effective it is and they get into habits using it they will be less likely to revert to single driver commuting. Hurry and get the rail going. Selfishly, get the rail to Payson and I'll certainly use it!!!
Here we go again. I'd like to know why the money used to extend the HOV lane to the Utah County line and again to University Parkway in Orem. That funding would have put a bit of a dent in the bill we are looking at now. Oh, thats why....UDOT loves to bandaid our roads instead of looking at the long term a bit more. If we are waiting for funding for reconstructing I-15 in Utah County, the condition of the road will only deteriate faster. I shudder to think how bad I-15 will get through Davis County which needs to be reconstructed just as bad, especially between Centerville and 31st Street in Ogden.
Let's have the great Sierra Club and other organzations that closed down Legacy for so long, donate some of their ill gotten gains to the cost of road construction. In fact, let's have some of them do the actual work, with their hands!
