Doug Robinson: Voting P.C. isn't as easy as it looks

I will vote ONLY for the issues; the fact that my chosen candidate is a (whatever) has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, I am rare in Utah.
You're misreading his article. Although the author is from Utah and writing for a Utah paper, he is not talking about Utah issues. These are national issues. You actually point out the exact issue he is trying to make, that Mormons are going to want people to vote for the Mormon, blacks are going to want people to vote for a black person, women are going to want people to vote for the woman, etc.
The point was that Kennedy (not from Utah) was blasted by a National (non-Utah) women's group for not supporting the female candidate (who is not from Utah). It's nothing to do with Utah.
If you want to make it about Utah, I wholeheartedly agree with you that few Utah voters actually study and understand the issues, which is very unfortunate. The political system in Utah is definitely broken. Part of that is due to the national parties, neither of which really represent Utah's interests. Part of it is due to our unwillingness to scrape through the surface and really see what's going on underneath. That said, it's got nothing to do with this article.
"In Utah, 'politically correct' means that you vote ONLY for Romney. I ONLY vote for the issue; the fact that MY candidat is a (whatever) has nothing to do with it. I am rare in Utah."
Whereas...YOU are unique, different, and vastly superior to Utah's unwashed masses. Consequently, its only NATURAL that YOUR chosen candidate is, well, simply "better" on all of the issues...this must be because YOUR candidate best reflects YOUR sophisticated, intellectual and morally superior positions. How in the world did the ignorant folk here manage before you graced the populous with YOUR enlightenment?
If you're voting in the Democrat primary, please let me know whom I should vote against this evening. As everyone on the Democrat ticket is a lawyer, my normal discriminator isn't helpful.
Non-native, Mormon/Romney detractors, and snobs aren't as rare as many would hope for. You give a LOT of non-Republican, non-Mormon and non-natives a tough rep to overcome. Many of us try to disagree with our conservative, Republican, Utah-born neighbors without being snotty & offensive. Changing their opinions won't happen by copping an attitude.
I for one will not subscribe to a two-bit newspaper that conforms only to the moral and narrow-minded religious majority of this backwoods state and allows idiots like Doug Robinson to write trash for them.
