Unbelievable | 3:10 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
to JIM H:

So if its silly to have a poll anywhere where a candidate might have support then you must also discount any southern states where the Huskster might get support or military states where McCain might. Your comment might very well be the weakest point I have heard so far. So now the religious bigotry is even trying to stop the Mormons from supporting their own. Unbelievable!
Jerry Moe | 4:08 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
Your headline should read "Some" vote for Romney. This Mormon will be voting for Ron Paul. Go Ron!!!
Will | 4:34 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
Robert from NC.. Well said. I think that's very admirable about Romney. He even backs it up with good reasoning.

To Mike,

I am very glad that you will at least vote. It's sad when I hear of the people that won't vote. I will vote because I feel that this country has offered me a great life and I feel it's a responsability.

You're right, McCain touts himself as a "straight-talker" and he does. Don't get me wrong. McCain has some stong points that Romney lacks. But I do not agree with his history and the truth is that he lied through his teeth just a little while back while talking about Romney. So in that sense, yes, he will say what he needs to get the votes. I think he's very hypocritical. He talks so bad about Romney and his "attack-ads" but McCain is much more personal with his attacks. Romney just shows differences. This is just what I've seen. Either way, both are better than a liberal Democrat in the white house.

Ron P can't win | 4:31 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
to Jerry Moe:

Maybe you should reread the headline. "It's Utah's turn: Local voters favor Mitt and Obama, poll shows". With local voters "favoring" Romney that must mean that there are those who don't favor him. But thanks for sharing with us the fact that you will be wasting your vote on a candidate who has no chance. I think what you should be asking youself is who would you rather have ...... McCain or Romney. If you eliminate Romney by voting for someone who dosen't have a chance then your vote was wasted and you deserve McCain as the Rep nominee, a vote you won't get to do over again. If that is what you want, I respect that. But make sure that you understand what you want long term before you cast your vote. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for McCain. This Mormon will be voting for Mitt Romney.
Michael | 4:51 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
Mitt win win Utah. Big news- and he would win most other states- as long as they border Utah. Utah Republicans need to get ready for McCain as the Republican nominee- as that will be quite evident after Tuesday. And they may have to brace for Huckabee for VP.

In any case, the nation needs real change- away from the disaster that has been inflicted on us by Bush/Cheney. I do hope the next president will give us a fiscally responsible government- Come to think of it, the last time we had that, our presidnet's name was Clinton. And I also hope we will get some leadership and energy policy other than fossil fuels and pollution as the only solution.
Smartgal | 4:52 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
Billy - No - Romney is not a flip-flopper - stop believing the liberal media. McCain is the flip-flopper - he's proven that. I hope everyone for Romney gets out to vote or McCain might win this state if we sit back and think everyone else will get out and vote for Romney. And shame on our governor for endorsing and campaigning McCain. He will not get my vote next time.
Grandpa | 8:17 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
Time for a reality check--the fact is the
nations voters of all parties will not elect John
McCain for a number of valid reasons, including his age.Hillary and her gang are going to bring
that issue up time and time again (though they
will be "sensitive" about it). Assuming the office of the President of the U.S. and its burdens should
not be left to McCain or for that matter anyone our
age. McCain is nothing more then a "hack politician"
who will turn out in the end to be nothing more then fresh meat for the "den of the Hillary lions."

Many in the media can hardly wait for the circus to begin.I don't think McCain has a clue as to how
he is being used to increase the "bounty" given to the"goddess of circulation and viewers."

I am amazed that the comments are so negative about canadents on all sides without a hint of proof to back them up.

I am amazed about the false comments about Mitt Romnay, and the way they try to vilify the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints.

Will telling falsehoods wind up being true??

I am amazed that more people won't give correct referances when they make statements.!!

I am amazed that people think putting some one in as President of the United States of America, who has had several years in government, and been a part of the problems we have today, will change things for good!!!! Duh.

I don't think any of the current Senators or House members would make changes that should be made.

Yes I support Mitt, because I think he would make changes that someone now in government would NEVER make, if they would, why would they not try to make changes BEFORE they run for President??

I am amazed that people want the same ones back in government over and over.

I am amazed that people make false statements about the LDS church, but never speak about anothers church or beliefs.

It's not really 'utahs' turn'. Unless there's a sea change, we might as well phone it in. Today.
GetTheFacts | 11:41 p.m. Feb. 3, 2008
These comments concern me. Don't vote on a couple of sound bites, get educated.

Obama has constantly contradicted himself -
1. Yesterday in Idaho, he promises not to take guns away; yet when running in Illinois he wanted to restrict handguns
2. He promises to have transparent hearings on major legislation; yet when writing a bill on nuclear waste in water he meets behind closed doors with the nuclear industry who "help" write the eventual bill
3. He says he is only the candidate that will get both democrats and republicans; yet most voters do not realize that National Journal just this last week rated him the most LIBERAL. Doubtful many repbulicans will vote for him when they hear that regardless of how memorizing his speeches are.
4. On some of the most important votes in the Illinois senate, he votes "present" - when you are President you can't vote present, you have to make a decision
5. He is a big no-show; how many votes can a Senator miss?! Seems he misses more votes than he actually makes. Again, the presidency doesn't allow for no shows.

By the time the real Obama is known, it may be too late!
Mitt works hard and smart.. | 1:11 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
he is fearless and that is what so many of you are worried about...his making hard choices and flying in the face of the abusive big spenders. Mc Cain is the LITTLE GENERAL.He can't wait to stand in front of the troops as their Commander in Chief. He should be running for Chief of Staff, not President.
Obama would be a good Secretary of State maybe. Hillary! Wow, she has a past to worry about and can't keep Bill under control for five minutes. The White House would be in every tabloid in the world.
A Liberal Mormon can't be Presid | 1:58 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
Will, "It's sad when I hear of the people that won't vote." I don't think it's sad instead I realize the reason many people don't vote is because they have had it with people voting based on partianship and ignorance. Can you tell us the title of the last bill Barack Obama sponsored in the Senate? What would it have done? Can you name several important pieces of legislation he has sponsored that has successfully passed.

We must remember that if we don't vote that the only people who will be voting are those who can't see beyond simplistic labels such as liberal and conservative. They can't name one bill before our state legislature or discuss the merits of a bill before Congress and suggest what changes could be made to improve it instead they demand that their Senator or Representative vote against or for it without having read it themselves.

Finally we have the chance of voting for someone like Obama instead of partisans like Romney and Clinton but us liberals are supposed to go to Church and allow conservatives to run our country since we are only good for Church and can't be President. Sorry James Faust.
Mitt is Mormon but a bad one | 2:05 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
Russ, "Romney refuses to rule out torture, specifically waterboarding,...Strap them down and sadistically do with them what you want. Which Mormon doctrine is this?" Romney isn't a good Mormon so please don't confuse the doctrines of the Church with the immoral views and actions of Mormons such as Romney since these aren't good people; let alone good Mormons.

"R U sure that Mitt is Mormon?" He's Mormon but not a good one. He's lied, and many of the positions he has taken are immoral. I see this kind of person all the time and some of the time they are members of the Church but this doesn't mean they should be given greater leeway. Their votes are immoral and their testimonies are probably lies just like Mitt Romney's.

"PS -- the CIA says that torture does not work. So which Mormon doctrine is Mitt following? Someone please lay out the doctrine?!" I can't speak for anyone else but Mitt Romney views are not found in the scriptures or the teachings of the Prophets yet I'm not shocked that many Mormons intend to vote for him but they are as bad as he is. Please bear this in mind.

Obama will be either president or vice president by this time next year. Why? He represents change. He is articulate, caring, can walk and talk at the same time, legal mind, wonderful family. And he represents a serious move forward for America on the question and issue of race. Many Americans believe it is time to break that last barrier with a qualified dynamic candidate. Nothing unusual here.

How he voted in Illinois or in the senate matters. But not much. Senators by the nature of the beast have to vote constantly on major to very minor things. They have to say YEA or NAY on almost a daily basis. Thus they have a long record of this and that. Governors, on the other hand, can hide out. They do not have this type of record. Political science majors know this.

He also is strong because he does not fit nor want a lable. Calling him "Liberal" means what? What does it actually mean? Get us out of this self-induced Iraq war? Feeding children and caring for them with medical aid? The American electorate has moved forward, and Obama fits the next generation. Outside of Utah this is easily understood.
the reason | 9:24 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
The vast group of evangelicals (AKA: Christians) that make up a large portion of the republican base, cannot vote for a Mormon, as it would be considered blasphemy (read the four books of the gospel in the NT). This is the reason why Romney is losing in most every other state besides Utah.
Lo | 11:16 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
Romney already has a title: THE GREAT FLIP-FLOPPER.
He has gone from an extreme Liberal from Massachuset to an extreme NEO-CON in just two years.
Jim Dexter | 12:58 p.m. Feb. 4, 2008
Ron Paul is the only real, consistent conservative in the race. But the GOP is not a conservative party, and hasn't been since Reagan left office. Instead, Republican politicians compete to see who can be most like a Demoncrat. Which is how Mitt won Mass. All elections are won from the center, but the donkeys and elephants have been moving the center toward the left for a long time. A pox on both their houses!
Right running scared | 4:49 p.m. Feb. 4, 2008
I find it extremely disturbing on how much trouble the Right wing of the Republican party would go thru to get Romney elected. Conservative political groups running ads painting McCain as a liberal, radio talk show hosts distorting truths and letting their callers flat out lie when they call in.

Mitt Romney's phone calls calling it a two man race, purposely misleading voters by not mentioning Huckabee and Ron Paul (look it up on youtube). Then his campaign saying that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. Sounds like voter suppression to me and is dishonest, unethical and shows how lacking Mitt's honesty and integrity really is. I guess he couldn't buy the nomination so now he will say anything to try to steal it.

I am not surprised that 89% of LDS members in Utah are voting for Mitt. Since I moved to this state 20 years ago only 10% of the Mormons I met were capable of thinking for themselves.
n-factor | 12:42 a.m. Feb. 5, 2008
I'm sure that Mitt is a great guy as a person, but seriously, when he said we needed 2 Guantanamos, I totally tuned him out. That's just plain offensive to what we ought to stand for as Americans, and as human beings.

This LDS liberal is voting for Obama!
blackPanther | 3:39 a.m. Feb. 5, 2008
I will never vote for Mitt. He's the most flip-flopper I've ever seen and heard. This man has flip-flopped on almost every issue. The talk radio anchors like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham and their cohorts want to think for Americans especially right-wingers. That's balderdash. I think Obama, McCain and Huckabee are more honest and not changing their views just to win the elections. I live in Pocatello, Idaho and will be voting for Obama anyways.
carmstrong909 | 7:52 a.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Pres. Romney is the most qualified to lead this country. He has proven that he can govern, bring the economy in order and show that values and virtues will always be part of our prosperity and peace. I love his temperance, control and grace under pressure when everyone around him is bullying him. He has the blessings of being prepared for this race since boyhood. He has my admiration and respect. LONG LIVE PRES. ROMNEY!!!!
Truth in labeling | 10:08 a.m. Feb. 5, 2008
Romney is neither leberal or conservative, he is what ever you want him to be, just let him know what you want to deliver your vote and he will accomodate you. It is all the same to him; all he wants is the throne of president.

and as their "one-of-are-own" dream slips away, I can understand why.
All of us have backed the wrong horse before. The smart one's have no problem switching horses.

Conservatives should have recieved an e-mail right after the Republican nomination was determined. "you have just been screwed".
