I believe the best way to combat this type of hatred is to ignore them. After all, isn't it attention they are after? Everyone just ignore them as if they are invisible, and that includes the media. DN photographers, don't take photos. Remember? They aren't there. It is so sad that there are people who want to spew this type of hate.

I say Amen to you Joseph Walker. Good job!
HUMAN WALL | 10:52 a.m. Feb. 1, 2008
THIS IS A CALL TO ALL. If you are seriously concerned about this and want to make a difference, create a HUMAN WALL. This has been done in other cities and has been very effective. All you have to do is show up and stand in a line between this group and the funeral procedings. Sing hymns of praise for this beloved man that we know to be a prophet to our God. I can't think of a better thing for the local army of missionaries in Salt Lake City to do on this sacred memorial day. HUMAN WALL!!!

I loved this article. I loved picturing President Hinckley smiling and saying "Isn't it wonderful...." Thank you for reminding me to control my anger towards these protesters.

There has always been opposition against the Lord's kingdom and His leaders. It isn't suprising to see history repeat itself on some small scale. If you ask me, it is a testimony that the work is true and that Gordon B. Hinckley truely was a prophet of God. I consider it a compliment.

President Hinckley would say live and let live. We need peace in our world. God help those who hate.
Matthew 5:11-12 | 1:08 p.m. Feb. 1, 2008
President Hinckley believed and lived this:

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Bearing this "visit" patiently and in a manner befitting true Christians is the best course of action here. I don't deny that a "human wall" has a sort of appeal all its own, but it strikes me as too likely to create hostility and a standoff/shouting-match situation. Simply ignoring them would be infinitely more effective. What would President Hinckley recommend if he were here? Quite possibly his last Priesthood session address about controlling our anger--which seems quite prophetic the longer I think about it.

Let these "people" say their piece and show the world what they're really made of. Let we who believe in President Hinckley and Jesus Christ do likewise.

Should Mitt Romney ever be elected, this first visit from the Westboro haters just might be the least of our worries. This is good practice.

I think that we should show these protesters that we are truly honest in heart, good, pure, and always kind to others always. Lets not let hate take our position with them. We are better than those people who spend their time hating, belittling and condemning others. A true Christians would never spend their time doing these things. True Christians only spend their time saying good about others. Lets not help them with their hatred by participating. God will bless us.

I read somewhere that the protesters will empahasize their belief that "Hinckley is in hell."

If that's the case, let's keep in mind that Christ set the example while his body was lying in the tomb, as recorded in 1 Pet. 3:18-19.

"18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;"

So if indeed Pres. Hinckley is in hell, we all know what he's doing there.

He's giving a talk.

Okay...I'm not as tolerant...and yes, I know Pres. Hinckley has asked everyone to be more tolerant.
My reaction to these protesters is this...I would like to go and pepper spray them. They are rude, obnoxious and mean spirited and a good dose of pepper spray would shut them up.
Having written this...I know I will simply shake my head at them and move along. I do feel sorry for them and their twisted views on what is proper.
Protesting a funeral is simply wrong.
