Great Story on RSL. Don't get to see these types of articles enough in any newspaper.
Sounds like a hard working and talented player...he'll be getting some major minutes (if not starting) by season's end.
I like Wingert....but sounds like he'll have his hands full claiming his starting spot. Its great to think that our level of training is improving, and therefore our final product for game day.
Don't yank Wingert yet. I doubt Beltran is ready to be an MLS starter right now.
All we've heard about Beltran is how good of shape he's in.....no mention of whether or not he's a decent soccer player. That's got to make you nervous.
I think the idea that he started for the U-20 national team for the entirety of the world cup is somewhat implying that he is, at the least, a decent soccer player.
Playing in the U20 world cup was major experience but the question is will that translate to success in the MLS? Was he the right choice at number three? I believe we could have still acquired him at No. 14... Fitness is great, but RSL is full of hard working players. Now we need some technical ability that can move us up to the same threshold as the Dynamos and Uniteds of the league. Can Beltran be a part of that? Perhaps, but most likely as a role player. Instead of questioning the right back position, why not question whether or not we can find the right combination of forwards up top? Or perhaps who is the right choice in goal? No question Rimando was MVP last year, possibly Goalkeeper of the Year. But look at Brad Guzan, currently courting Aston Villa. How did he become a top level keeper? He got thrown into the fire early in his career. Its time Seitz had the same chance. Beltran is cool. RSL is the best ever. Anywho...
I like the idea of getting a young defender that might actually challege for playing time. It will help push our veteran defenders to become better to keep their spot on the back line. We desperately need our defense to improve because real has a hard time scoring goals so when we let 1 or 2 in that usually takes us out of the game. I also wouldn't mind a more capable center midfielder maybe from a transfer. Poor beckerman has to be everywhere at once. If he had some support real could get more possession and create more chances at goal. The MLS is getting bigger players all the time (Angel, Blanco, and yes. . . Beckham). Its time real started looking in other countries for players. The argentinians we got helped keep us above the bottom last year.
we picked up two defenders in the draft, and also a midfield and forward. we should be way better this season.
