Now fine the employers that are hiring Illegals.. To many citizens jobs are being taken by illegals.

Utah is doing the right thing. The federal government is unable to deal with this issue, unless you allow them to do amnesty, then they'll force localities to issue ID. Citizens do not want this and want the laws enforced. The feds will not seriously enforce our laws so it's up to the states. The only way to stop illegal immigration is at the employers door step, anything else just makes it inconvenient.

This article seems pretty biased to me. Litvack quotes a questionable study that only actually confirmed insurance coverage for about 50 out of 40,000 card holders, without indicating how those 50 were selected.

Representative Oda, who works in the insurance industry stated during the hearing that most of the policies he writes up for privilege card holders are canceled within the first 90 days, and he would estimate the actual percentage with insurance at less than 50%. I wonder why only the Litvack statement was quoted in this article?

One other concern is out of the 6 states offering driving abilities to illegals, all but one of them are working to end it within the next couple of months. Utah could become the only state that offers driving cards to illegal aliens if this bill doesn't pass.

It's good to see Utah eliminating Driver's Licenses for illegal immigrants, and following Oklahoma's lead in combatting illegal immigration.

Illegal immigrants are costing American taxpayers 150 billion dollars a year.

Illegal immigrants are taking jobs that rightfully belong to Americans.

Illegal immigrants send 45 billion dollars, out of the country, to Mexico, and South America, each year. This is money that should be going back into our own economy.

California has a 14.5 bllion dollar state budget deficit, all of which can be directly attributed to the cost of the FREE BENEFITS for the four million illegal immigrants in California.

Wake up stupid people. Your uninsured motorist insurance is going up. 'Watch for hit "n" runs. That is going up.

This just cannot happen. If this spreads to New York, then as Mayor Bloomberg has said who will take care of the golf courses? They could become ungolfable. However, it would create jobs for American citizens, who could then make decent money AND VALIDATE their worth has an ideal American by doing the job that Mayor Bloomberg believes ideal Americans should do.

If this fails,Americans could go and pick lettuce for Senator,John,"Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for fifty dollars an hour", McCain. They would be proving their worth as Americans to the Senator and make even better pay than at the golf course job for Mayor Bloomberg. The added benefit is that Americans would show both of these honorable politicians, that they can be as good an American as illegal alien Americans are. We have to start respecting these leaders of our more, they only have our best interests at heart.

Its about time that this state put on a show that illegals are unwelcome here. when other states around us pull the welcome mat where do you think that they come. they hold down wages for us that are trying to raise our own families every industry that embraces them dose so to cut costs. it used to be that a fellow could get a decent paying construction job now, you have to speak spanish to survive in the business, and accept illegal wages. with the economy slowing down and some maybe a lot of us needing to find another job who do you think you will be competing against. Send them home.

Twenty five years ago, I was injured when a car I was driving got plowed into by a car that ran a red light. A male Latino driver staggered out of an old beat up Ford Pinto and fled down the street..... while I remained pinned inside my own vehicle. Empty Mexican beer cans were found on the floor and in the back seat of the Pinto. There was also a Mexican flag dangling from the rear view mirror. The license plate was run by the police and the registered/legal owner was tracked down and questioned. The guy had a Spanish surname and no drivers license and of course no insurance. The police interviewed him through a Spanish interpreter and he claimed his car had been stolen from his front yard hours before it crashed into me. Nothing ever happened to this guy and of course his immigration status was a subject completely out of bounds for the police. How many other American citizens have been stabbed in the back by sanctuary city and sanctuary state laws?

The wonderful people of Utah should count their blessings that they do not live near the border with Mexico as I do. Larry B, I too was involved in an accident with a Ford Lobo truck with Mexican license plates in National City, California. When I attempted to obtain the driver's information he sped off on the sidewalk during rush-hour traffic. I was afraid that he would kill somebody, so I dialed 911. I asked the 911 dispatcher to transfer me to the National City Police Department for a quicker response; their dispatch put me on hold! I then drove a couple of blocks to the police station to file a complaint, but they refused to accept it. Instead they shoved a no-fault affidavit in my face and told me to sign it and turn it in to my insurance company. I insisted that they tell me why they would not look for the felon - "We have many hispanic residents in this community, and we do not wish to just going around and harrassing them" even though I gave a physical description of the driver, vehicle and a partial license plate. Two justice systems exist here at the border

These illegal immigrants, mostly from Mexico, refuse to learn English. They cause real Americans, like you and me,to pay higher phone bills so AT&T can pay to hire the 'Press 2 for Spanish' operator.

Since they don't speak English, they don't read English.

HOW an they be allowed by any state to drive when they don't know how to read a STOP sign, or a Yield sign??

They are very DANGEROUS people to give driving liscenses to.
beyond hope | 5:38 p.m. Jan. 31, 2008
why do we even debate such nonsence. The debate only gives hope to illegals. Just stop giving any benefits. No free education, welfare, food, medical, utility payments, ect. NOTHING! The illegal aliens would voluntarily leave our state and take their crime with them.
Bill W. | 5:36 p.m. Jan. 31, 2008
I challenge any bleeding heart who loves illegal aliens more than their own country to search on the internet the words "la raza" and "atzlan". Perhaps the results will change your opinions on the subject.
Stewart | 7:24 p.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Driver Privilege cards only add to the sanctuary status for the state of Utah. It is just another enabler of illegal immigration, very similar to giving someone in jail the key, and saying just come in at night.
Bobby | 9:40 p.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Patrick Buchanan has just written an article and the main theme that tied together the other things he wrote about, the things that are affecting Americas and Americans very survival, (war spending, massive illegal immigration and attack on our culture by La Raza)-- was that we are an unserious people in a serious time. The man has a talent for understatement, if you ask me.

I would NEVER move to Utah, but I like this bill.
I wish North Carolina would repeal their illegal alien's licenses (oh aaand their credit cards aaand their bank accounts).
Daniel | 9:55 p.m. Feb. 13, 2008
you know I live in UTAH and most of the people I know are affected by this Bill. Put yourself in their shoes, US Latinos were in htis land before you were. Utah used to be part of Mexico so I believe that what you are thinking is just wrong. Have you watched the movie Gandhi? He fought for the same kind of rights. If you want to get rid of all of the illegal imigrants bank accounts and everything you are crazy because that would affect the economy. everyone I know has insurance on their cars and you know why? Because just like everyone else they want to follow the rules. It is very hard to get a visa or anything like that so why are you trying to get rid of illegal immigrants? for my last argument do ou want to be scrubbing other people's toilets and doing the jobs you don't want to do? do you want to get paid less than Minimum wage and have to manage with that moneY? why are Rebate checks being sent to people is just a gift from Bush or MAYBE A SIGN THAT THE ECONOMY NEEDS US?
