I don't agree with this man on most political issues, but he is a strong man with good personal family values and has endured the loss of a son - something no parent should have to go through. I wish The John and Elizabeth Edwards family well.
Good man | 7:47 a.m. Jan. 30, 2008
John Edwards is a good guy who understands many of the problems of working people. Too bad his campaign didn't catch fire. His voice will be missed over the remainder of the primaries.

He believes strongly in many things. My serious disagreement is with how he made his fortune suing doctors for conditions which were shortly there after found to not be associated with Doctor care. He made millions from suits which are now known to be bogus. If he was honest, he'd give the money back to the doctors and their insurance. I don't know how you return someones' reputation though...

So sad | 9:16 a.m. Jan. 30, 2008
Too bad our media was so obsessed with having a black or a woman run for president. Edwards was a great man with great ideas. But the times they are a-changin.

Sorry to disagree about John Edwards being such a fine candidate. He was a glorified ambulance chaser who became a wealthy man through winning bogus class action suits. He parlayed that and his good looks into political cash as a senator and VP candidate. While he experienced personal difficulties for which I feel sypathetic, he never had much substance as a candidate and misrepresented the facts often in discussing the issues. We are better off without him cluttering the dias as Hillary and Barrak engage in spirited debate to determine the Democratic Presidential nominee.

I agree with MadMax. Edwards problem is not too different from the current Republican hype of balancing the budget and drawing down our debt, when in fact for the six years Republicans controlled both houses and Bush was in the White House they did the complete opposite and indebted our nation to record levels never seen in its history. In other words, typical rhetoric to throw the truth of the matter off the scent.

With Edwards out of the the Red Herring factor is now gone. Now, the Democratic race will have greater clarity and purpose since it's now between two very fine individuals and politicians who though similar on substance are very different on style and methodology, which I believe is going to be the defining issues that determines who wins the Democratic party nomination when all is said and done.

And make no bones about it, regardless who wins the Democrat nomination, McCain, who will win the Republican nomination, will be no pushover, especially since he's now the only person who's served in the military of all those now running for the nomination of their respective party.

In the final analysis, it'll be between Clinton and McCain.

How did a trial lawyer like Edwards get punked in a debate by Dick Cheney, of all people? That was one of the more bizarre things I ever saw.

I hate to see you drop out John. You told the truth about corporations and how our gov. is bought and sold by the lobby culture. Lemmings and the blindly faithful love to see you leave because they do not understand what an independent voice is anymore. When you accused the lobbyists of running and ruining our health care system for the poor, you hit the nail right on the head. When you spoke, you did so in complete sentences, leading to paragraphs. The $400 haircut was a blooper, for sure; but you should have said, "If I had bought some fly fishing rod and reel for $400 no one would have said a word." And they wouldn't have. Boys and their toys concept would have saved you. Does anyone think that Hillary gets her hair done for $20? $50?
I suppose one could say that you got caught between two dynamic individuals -- and you did. I hope you get chosen for VP so that you can continue the crusade against what is happening to the little guy and gal by the lobbyists. Hope so.

Blamed for being a crooked attorney and still by far the best Democrat candidate. I really am not sure just how crooked he was with how sloppy the medical field is. He seemed to be a pretty decent guy especially for an attorney. Hillary Clinton is a communist and Barak Obama does not make as much sense as Edwards did. Romney and Edwards are by far the best 2 men out there and neither really have a chance in heck winning. People would rather vote for crooks.

To Texas Reader, I guess if you call winning a so called "BOGUS" lawsuit to help the parents of a child who was prescibed medicine to cause permanent BRAIN DAMAGE as bogus then it must be BOGUS. I guess if you call winning money for the parents of a child who suffers from CEREBAL PALSY due to doctor neglect in the delivery room, I guess your right, it's BOGUS! No one should be allowed to collect for others neglect, because there is no such thing as malpractice. Malpractice is just plain BOGUS! Keep on voting for the Greedy Ole Party.

To Texas SLEEZER, as much as you may want what you said to be true, cerebral palsy has now been clearly shown to exist in utero, and to have nothing to do with the birth process. There is such a thing as malpractice, but it doesn't cause CP, and it shouldn't have enriched John Edwards, the antenatal psychic. Texas Reader is right, and you are wrong.

Not having a dog in this fight, I don't know if I dare say something about how John Edwards earned his money. I do know that if he cheated or played loose with the facts, etc., that the medical lobby and its paid stable of attorneys would have been all over him, and back in court within the afternoon session. Docs and lawyers on one side, and a lawyer and the patient on the other. Edwards was right when he said he knew how the system worked, he fought against it for years, won, and received compensation. Normal process.

If Edwards had cheated the docs and their stable of attorneys, they all would have been back in court. That is a given.

But since it has not happened, then I can only conclude that the medical profession and their hired guns decided not to continue on. Don't worry, they had the money to continue the fight, and they had the legal beagles to continue the search. But they didn't... because...????

I hope John's wife is getting better. I haven't heard. She is smarter than he is. Nice lady too.

Like so many "talking heads" on local and national TV, Edwards was not much more than a smile and a hairstyle.

Keep them both brushed and waiting in the wings.

His dreamy looks and dreamier rhetoric may be just what the doctor ordered as VP to balance out The Big Chill or Oprabama this November.

This is a bummer. John Edwards was my favorite candidate in either party. Hopefullly whatever Democrat wins the nomination runs with his desire for Universal Healthcare.
