Any time state government can turn the issue back to the feds (billing them for costs, enforcement programs, etc.) they are taking a step in the right direction. Illegals are a "revenue plus" to the feds, and the states and cities are left providing services like schooling, law enforcement, health care, and city services to overcrowded houses. It is high time the feds felt the brunt of their failure to enforce immigration laws.
Until we put pressure on, they'll continue to see illegals as a source of extra money into the Social Security fund.
(Even that is tenuous since some dopes in Washington are suggesting that illegals ought to receive benefits if they've paid in.)
Our legislature has the power to make Utah less attractive to illegals. They should do so!

One Vote: Very good comments! Illegal immigration is destroying the social fabric of our country. It's also draining the coffers of our government dry. The U.S. is 9 trillion dollars in debt. We cannot take all of Mexico's unskilled laborers. If we really want to help Mexicans out we should work to get rid of the corruption in the Mexican government and destroy the narcotics dealers in that country. I'm sick of the bleeding hearts blaming law abiding American citizens for Mexico's problems. We can't take them all, put them all on welfare, put their children through school, and promote them ahead of the citizens of the U.S. Am I the only one who sees these outrages?

No, you are not the only one, most of the legal citizens of this state see it, it's our politicians that don't, but then, most of their neighborhoods are not inundated with these illegals and most of their children are not left twiddling their thumbs while the teachers try to make these non-english speaking kids understand what is going on. Finally, we have some representation "of the people" in Rep. Donnelson and Hickman. They seem to understand what the average citizen is going through and want to help us instead of catering to these law-breakers. We are senior citizens and for the first time in our lives we have a gun in our bedroom because of the increase crime in our area, most by illegals. I am sympathetic to the children, but it is like most things, we make decisions for our children, right or wrong and we pay the consequences, right or wrong. These parents have put their own children in this no-win situation and expect us to pay for it. We've had enough. Go Rep Donnelson and Hickman, You have my vote!! Write down the ones of those who are not representing us, remember them on election day.
