We are back in the playoffs again. This was a great win.
180 turn around | 10:22 a.m. Jan. 29, 2008
What a turn around this team has made in the last couple weeks! I think Korver has been the difference, not really in his scoring, but in the way he spreads the floor allowing the Jazz to break down the zone defense they have struggled with. Perhaps opposing teams will figure out a way to deal with it again, but for now it seems to be working. I also think Korver has just been a breath of fresh air to wake up this team that had fallen into a slump. Time will tell if they can keep it up, but I am optimistic again for the first time since the season started.

Last night was an exciting game to watch, probably one of the better games they've played this year. The defense was GREAT! 15 stills?? Offense was alos good...Kirilenko is on FIRE and I like the fact that Hory is working with him on his shot and it's paid off. Nice job... I think the jazz have found there groove again and WILL make it to the Western Conf. Finals. Everyone is helping and making great plays.I don't want to hear any complaining from you "fans" any more! If you dont like Memo or any of the other players, then hop on the ban waggon of some other team! We don't need your comments. The jazz had a slump in December, but all teams have there moments. Since the Korver trade, we have only lost 2 games. I'm happy about the trade and it showed last night with his clutch 3 with 48 seconds left. Utah CAN beat any team out there right now and WILL continue playing good ball. GO JAZZ

Korvar is da man! What the Jazz have most been lacking.
Outside 3-point shooter to spread the floor. Also the way AK47 has been shooting you have got to be kidding me, Jeff Hornacek has sure helped him out for sure.
I liked Korvar since he was with Philly and was shocked Jazz actually got him. I knew he could shoot. He brings a lot to the table and more veteran experience even though he is still a little young. This team is young and dangerous! Don't be pessimistic in any way. They are young and will continue to be inconsistent. 2nd youngest team in the NBA and look how good they are. No reason to whine here man.
Reality check | 11:16 a.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Korver is a good player, and a 90000% improvement over Giri but he is not the main reason the Jazz are doing so well, it's way simpler than that. The bottom line is that their schedule has been whay easier this month.

I know sports fans (especialy Jazz fans) have the memory of a fruit fly so I'll help you remember. in November december the Jazz played one of the most brutal schedules in the league. Over half of their games where on the road and over half of their games where against future playoff teams. When they did play at home it was rarely for multiple game stretches. This month the schedule has been a little more resonable and the record reflects that.

I'm super exited about this Jazz team. I think they are a legit contender. The problem is that if everybody is healthy there are probably 7-8 legitimate contenders in the west. The playoffs are going to be awesome!!!

Agreed. I like seeing Ronnie Price out there more than Jason Hart. He is more of a slasher and an offensive threat, even though he doesn't have the same size as Hart. I'll take Price over Hart any day

Must agree with Mr Reality...the schedule has been easier. But at the same time, the team has won the games they should win, unlike their December performance.

Regard K Korver, he is exceeding my expectations. The guy, whom Sloan trusts to have in the game at crunch time, hit a Tech free throw, missed a 3pt shot with less than 1 min left, kept moving without the ball, then took the Harp pass an hit a 3pt shot. Many players would have not wanted the shot..KK did and hit it. He won't win, but will get alot of mention for 6th man of the year.

And AK is more confident with his shooting...if this continues, the Jazz are going a long way in playoffs.
Fact Man | 12:20 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
The jazz are back take that Reggie Miller. He made a stupid comment a week or so ago like the national media usually does. He said "The Jazz played the spurs in the western conference finals last year now they are not even in the playoff hunt." Take that Reggie we went form 10th to 4th. And anyone else put your foot in your mouth the jazz are back
GHC | 12:49 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
I think Ginobli loves all the boo's...he loves being the bad guy and hitting the shot when he knows it is going to kill you...the airball by him to end the game was priceless however...couldn't have scripted it any better myself unless it had a chance to win the game for the spurs...

Ime Udoka (#5 for the spurs) was a punk last night...he talked more smack than anybody...which is fine cause it just made Boozer mad and fired up the Jazz, and Udoka got tossed...

Jazz are for real when they want to be...AK was awesome! I am excited to see how we play against the Hornets...my boy Deron Williams always steps up against Paul...
jeffblue | 12:51 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Just having Korver out on the floor opens things up in the middle--something that doesn't appear in his own stats. The Jazz had a similar situation with Stock and Malone when they got Hornecek, regarding opening up the inside. It is interesting how this new generation Jazz is mirroring the previous generation Jazz.
Jazz lover, Anti-Spurs | 12:57 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Good win Jazz. Deron Williams seriously worked Tony Parker, Parker cannot stay with him and D-Will locked him down on defense and got him into foul trouble as well. Ginobili makes me sick, his flopping and more flopping, I just get sick of it. Tim Duncan has never commited a foul in his life and Bruce Bowen continues to get away with murder on defense along with his flopping. I cannot stomache San Antonio and their flopping and whining. Good win Jazz, and D-Will, way to take Tony Parker to school, seriously he made Parker look ridiculous. Did you like that Eva?

Hey Bill... why don't you go find another team!? You're not wanted as a "true blue" fan, so do us all a favor and go cheer for another team! The Jazz are a great team despite the hard time in December. I agree with you James, the Jazz have had a easier schedule this month, but come on... they have played some good ball!
Anonymous | 1:52 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
It won't be too long before Sloan hates Korver because he shoots too much; the 3's he has made in the last 2 games were both games "finishers". The 3 point shot is such an important part of the NBA game and Jerry has Never figured that out.

Hey Jazzsmack where you at? Oh yeah, you aint talkin are ya? Because the Jazz are playing well. So where are all the "Slown" haters? (creative spelling by the way)Where is everyone dissing Boozer's defense? Wait you can't dog him cause he did great on Duncan last night. Either you are a Jazz fan or you are not, so let's hear it "Slown" haters, I can't hear you. And Jazzsmack maybe found something better to do with his time than pick apart the Jazz cause he sure aint talkin now. The Jazz are for real, and if they fire on all cylinders they can make some serious noise in the playoffs. GO JAZZ! I love how all the negative fans are quiet now. Stay away, we don't need ya.

Did anyone else notice a subtle defensive change Sloan made? Brewer on Parker and Williams on Bowen made it harder for Parker to pass and harder for Bowen to score. Also Korver plays good fundamental defense. He isn't athletic, but he's tall and we will need him against the Howards and Ginoblis in the playoffs.
MLB | 2:48 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
I think that Jeff Hornacek should work with every player. Then we could be alot better. We are so good but I think we could be a little better. Don't worry the JAZZ ARE BACK and they are FOR REAL. The lakers are going to be falling with out Bynum and the Spurs are just not as good anymore so the JAZZ are going to just keep climbing in the playoff spots. GO JAZZ!!

I think that Jeff Hornaseck should work with every player so we could make all of the players better on their shoot. The Jazz are good but we could be a little better. Don't worry the JAZZ ARE FOR REAL now. The Lakers are going to fall cause they don't have Bynum and the Spurs are not the greatest anymore and started their 9 game road trip with a loss to the Jazz so they are falling to. Clark I have to strongly disagree with you. If Korver was not athletic, he would not be a professional athlete. He is not Lebron James, but playing hard defense, moving off of picks, rebounding, shooting the way he does makes him a good athlete.
melvin | 4:11 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
go jazz,go I,believe that they can do it in the west final just like the did last season, however i would like to add some comment. I would sugest to put some stronger defense at the paint,in my own review all previous games,I have notice that they are still improvement to make in defending the painted area,I think they need to put some quicker big men like paul millsup and jarron collins. If they master it I think they can make to the finals.
Jazzsmack | 4:29 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Jazz are playing well because AK is playing well and is a major contibutor in games.

IT also helped that parker and others had a bad game and that the spurs were playing on the road.

This is the best you can expect from boozer, when his stats are almost wash with those he is playing against. Meaning the less of a negative impact he makes the better the jazz are. Although duncan did score more and rebound more. so boozer numbers are still negative meaning less than his opponent.

But boozer will always be a liability as a big man because of his size and defense.

Still the jazz have always played better when Ak plays well and is able (allowed?)to make a major contibution.

Still one must admit they are playing at home, they have gotten lucky playing teams with missing stars, and playing bad teams. This has all contibuted to their success lately.

How come playing back to back is an excuse when they lose but is not mentioned when they win?
Jazzsmack | 4:55 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Still and most importantly, you don't win chamionships with teams built around high scoring power fowards.

Ask the jazz. Malone.
Ask dallas. Nowitzke.
Ask suns, sixers, and houston. Barkley
Ask clippers? brand.
Ask timberwolves. Garnett
Ask sonics. lewis, kemp
Ask any team with webber.
on and on and on.

And that is just recent history.

The only team that has won is the spurs, and duncan actually a center.

The jazz will not win a championship,
They might win their 45 to 55 games,
But they will lose in the playoffs like they always do.

History has shown over and over and over and over and over again You don't win championships with pfs.

They way jazz do things is good for business and might be good for a small market, but is doesn't win championships no matter how hard you hope it happens. History doesn't lie.

Some of us real jazz fans want an honest shot at the championship. Not the false hope the jazz have been feeding us the last 25 years

Z | 5:14 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
I thought Ronnie Brewer played impressive defense against Tony Parker. It seemed like Parker was frustrated by Brewer's length and athleticism. I didn't see his final stats but they must have been below average.

AK has been the man lately! I can't beleive his shooting. His confidence is sky high, and I hope he keeps it rolling. I also like Price in the game over Hart. I feel more comfortable with him out there, he can create when he needs to, and can jump out of the gym.

I'm also pumped the Jazz picked up Korver. He's such a smart player and he doesn't shy away from taking the big shots and making them. He lives for it. The Jazz look impressive, but until they learn to win on the road consistently, they won't go very far in the playoffs. But we can always have hope.
Go Jazz!
Ing | 5:09 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Boozer is always a liability? JazzSmack, you're way off.

Booz isn't the best defender ever, so I'll grant there's a potential liability there...but he's a heck of a scorer, a strong rebounder, and a smart, team-oriented player. He's a huge, huge positive difference maker.

You must have Boozer confused with somebody else. I think you've also mistaken yourself for somebody who knows something about basketball.
lose the tude! | 5:48 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
to Jazzsmack

C'mon man ..... lose the attitude!

Did it ever occur to you that Parker and others (Spurs) had bad games because the Jazz played well. Thats quite often how it works.

Great home record - best in the league! Is that luck? The ES Arena is a tough place to play. That will be a huge asset come playoff time.

Boozer is an assett not a liabiity. This is sports not math brother. Players dont cancel each other out. Lose his points and overall contribution and we arent where we are. Guaranteed.

Playing teams with missing stars is part of the game. You need to show up or you lose those games, missing stars or not. You win the games you need to win and build from there. I think they are starting to do that.

Give em credit dude.
Jazzed in Idaho | 6:52 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Jazzsmack, I agree, lose the 'tude dude ... you are out of your head. Duncan is a power forward, and has never played center, which shoots all to smithereens your flimsy arguments. Teams that do not have good power forwards do not do well in the won-lost column. Look at the Suns, the Mavericks ... they are where they are because of good point guard to power forward combinations.

Boozer is not only a great power forward, he is a good man, with family values that are very admirable.
Agree with Jazzsmack | 7:17 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
Duncan is very much a combo C/PF and the last time besides SA to win a championship with a start PF is............? I don't even know - not Chicago, not Detroit, not Lakers, maybe you could argue Boston with McHale.....

I absolutely agree that Boozer is a huge defensive liability. I also point to how Malone faded in the playoffs EVERY year.

Jazzsmack | 7:48 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
It is fine to have pie in the sky hopes, But you must have one foot in reality.

Everything every jazz fan is saying now was said in the eighties and nineties. I have lived though all this before.

As someone said It is deja vu all over again.

Duncan is listed as a f/c that is forward/center. so he is not a true power forward.

Even if you consider him one. there is an exception to every rule. Booozer is not that exception.

It is great that boozer is family man. But that is not waht he is paid to do. But so what? It didn't win horny or stockton any championships.

Sure its is better to have good guys, the jailblazers found that out.

But you can have good guys and win chamionships.
You just need the right good guys.

I never said the jazz weren't good, in fact I belive I said there a good team, 45-55 games is pretty good.

But this is very simple:
just look at how championship teams are constructed.
And What they have at every postion.
Jazzsmack | 8:05 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
But this is very simple:

just look at how championship teams are constructed.
And What they have at every postion.

Then look at the jazz.

You must guards that can shoot and defend and handle the ball. Chanmpoinship teams have great outside shooting. stockton never shot enough. stocton was not quiick enough to be a great defender tho he tried hard. deron not as good ball handler or defender. Jazz have never had good outside enough shooters. Do they have them now? Maybe, but brewer can't shoot. Name an nba champ that had a starting 2guard that couldn't shoot the three.

You must have big men who can defend and score. Typically it has been very good and physical big man like duncan, moses malone, olijuwon. You really think boozer is in their class as a big man? They had big tough pfs, like rambis, mahorn. Is boozer that tough?

You must have that one guy that can take over games.
Jazz have never had that player. They never had a magic, jordon, kobe, isaiah, or even a bird or drexler.

The jazz are pretenders to the throne.

Sure they can be very good, but don't kid yourselfs.

Jazz man | 8:03 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
hey jazzsmack... say all you want but the jazz are going all the way baby. they're a better team then they were last year and they're gonna whoop some butt all the way to the finals!!!!
Jazzsmack | 8:17 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
One more thing:

point guard/power forward combos don't win nba champoinships.

superstar guard/premier bigman win championships.

high scoring power forwards destroy the chemistry.

Example houston won chamionships. barkley joins them the don't win.

phoenix ha not won a championship
dallas has not won a championship.
minnsota didn't win one.

Jazz have won have games when boozer has scored 12 points or 30 points or when he doesn't play at all. They've also lost when he has scored alot.

How is that making a difference???

It takes serious $$ and just as much luck to put together a team that is good enough to win a championship. No-one said that we have pie in the sky hopes, we just said that we are enjoying the ride and all the great basketball the Jazz have given us over the years. I have been watching them since they arrived in Utah and have lived in 2 states since then....still remaining a solid fan. If they eventually pull off a championship then that is the ultimate reward to fans who have supported this team. If they do though, you will eat some serious attitude crow for saying they never will. I hope you have to eat that crow but I will be fine if you don't. And if a championship is all that you want no wonder you are so miserable. But for me, I am enjoying the ride. I love this team, and always have.

They may not win a championship but they will provide us with good basketball for several years to come.

And to keep saying the same things people have said for 25 years isn't going to change anything either.

One correction: jordon proved (and perhaps detroit) proved you don't have to have a premier big man, but they do have do their job which is to play defense and score occasionally.

But the jazz don't have a jordon on their team.
ID Jazz | 9:46 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
That was the best defensive effort yet by Boozer. That is what the Jazz have needed from him for a long time. I also liked it when he snatched the ball from Udoka and got a technical, it showed some passion and fire this team is looking for from there veterans to show.
Have you noticed in the recent wins that for some reason Sloan is letting this team run on the break a lot more instead of the set offense each time. Also I hope can see past his love of Hart to start Price the better all around Player. Price never lost the lead in both games and even extended it.
This team is playing at the level we have expected and to the players talent. We are a defensive center away from making a deep run as long as they play like they did last night the rest of the season. If they could get home court advantage in the first two rounds then anything is possible in the WCFs. Please keep the effort up Jazz and you can and will go far.
Re: Anonymous | 9:52 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
You know who else is available and better than both Price and Hart put together? Jason Kidd. He wants out of New Jersey. We already have an elite PG though so I don't think it would work out. But could you imagine Williams and Kidd in the backcourt? That pair would be the best in the nba (possibly ever). You'd have the slasher/3pt. shooter and the daily triple-double threat. Sounds good, huh?
F4F | 9:59 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
I wouldn't trade the Jazz of any era for any other team. I've watched in the 80's, the high powered 90's, and the lowly 00's. If all you cheer for is the ultimate winner then you won't have much to cheer for. That the possiblity is there gives most of us reason to watch and have a distraction from the stresses of real life.
Jordan was a champion, but was a Bull, not a Jazzman, I didn't cheer for Jordan. If I cheered for Jordan, I'd have been a Bulls fan. If he wore a Jazz uniform, well, it'd have been differnt. Perhaps I'd have had the luxury of being a Jazz fan and a supporter of a team that won it all.
They win for the home fans and they're decent enough guys off the court to deserve support at home. If the 2 and 4 combo doesn't prove effecient enough to win it all, well, it gives us lots to cheer for along the way. Or, you could record all the games and watch after we know who wins and cheer for that team; then you don't have to suffer the embarassment of backing a loser...
Wait a minute | 10:29 p.m. Jan. 29, 2008
If Duncan is a center, what was David Robinson when they won? A point guard? Duncan is a true power forward like Malone and Barkley were. The truth is winning a championship does not come from any single position player, it also takes a full supporting cast of other stars and role players... and ... good timing.

Just to throw in some more discredit to ur stupidity. Wait one last thing. Where did all the supporters for Kover come from. Cause when the trade first went down all I read was hater emails. Either they stoped writing because the are crying in a corner or a lot of u guys are flip floppers...what is it?

re:Jazzsmack | 11:49 a.m. Jan. 30, 2008
How about Tim Duncan? Ask him. That is the dumbest arguement I ever heard. You don't win if you have a power forward that can score? hmmm, and I thought you had a little bit of basketball knowledge.
re: JazzSmack | 1:12 p.m. Jan. 30, 2008
That's a relief, Boston was really starting to scare me. Good to know that by picking up KG it sealed their fate.
Jazzsmack | 3:05 p.m. Jan. 30, 2008
I never said stockton was a bad defender. I said he tried hard despite his limitations.. Which is more than can be said about the current team.

The current celtics haven't won a championship yet. so the jury is out. Although I suspect they will not win it.

We can argue all day and night whether duncan is a center. Waht we do know is duncan is a 7 foot 270 pound behemoth who plays defense and who has won chamionships and is a premier big man in the league. Boozer is none of those things,
Re: Jazzsmack | 3:33 p.m. Jan. 30, 2008
Say what you want about the history of teams having premier PGs and PFs. History is unreliable and made to be broken.
