Mr Florez is right when he talks about the adminstrative over-burden faced by educators. I believe the colleges of education have too much control over who gets to teach. Administrators, not facing any market discipline, cook up certification and recertification requirements for teachers which often do little but give these administrators and colleges of education something to do.
By way of example, at present if a previously certified teachers reenters the profession have an absence, he or she faces a boat load of classes to take. Why? There is no real reason for this, other than give administration something to do.
I have no problem with the public education model per se, but competition must be introduced to expose administration to the real world.
Lew you are right on with your assessment. As one in the current system, at times it is uneccesarily burdensome and baffling. After over 30 years as both a teacher and district specialist it is obvious to me that successful teachers are so mostly because of their personalities after they have acqulired the base of knowledge necessary for their area of expertise.
