Solving property tax problems
2 comments | Read story
As an elected municipal official, it is very difficult to continue to run a community when the legislature is constantly stepping in to mandate new rules. Many of those mandates cause tax increases, but they can stay distant by pushing it down to local leaders to implement. The Utah State Legislature is constantly lamenting about the U.S. Congress meddling in their business.... then they jump in with both feet to meddle in the local governments' business.
If people don't understand what their tax dollar buys, they should be taking their local government leaders to task. When the State Legislature meddles, the people need to know that the increase is not necessarily the City that is out of balance.

Local governments and "other taxing agencies" all 16 of them on my tax bill, increase taxes just because they can. Oh, and last time I checked we live in a constitutionally limited republic based upon democratic principles. Your opening statement reflects your dismal lack of understanding about our Country and its history and our true form of government.
