I remember skiing at Alta during the years of the second world war, when the men from Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, etc. stationed at the Kearns Army Base, were hauled off the mountain at an incredible rate, and placed in ambulances to return to their base. I haven't skiied there since my college years but I do not see names that I knew, like "The Face", "Peruvian", and "Wildcat" rom that time. Was great to reminisce.

For more details about Alta's runs, you should check out The Powder Hound's Guide to Skiing Alta. It's a guidebook that names and rates and shows everyone of Alta's runs, even secret places that only the locals know.
