This has the potential to be used against people who are good drivers as a vendetta for something else and even more so if it is all anonymous. If this becomes law, I would be tempted to get the license plates of those responsible for this bill and turn them in for bad driving.....

I'm just guessing that Sen. Allen Christensen is going to be getting a lot of complaints, and having to retake some driving classes. I think this could just turn out to be really really annoying, and not help out very much.

Thank you George Orwell, I mean Allen Christensen. By the way I saw a UHP car make a illegal turn yesterday.

I agree totally with CONCERNED. This is not the American Juris Prudence Way. It borders on Naziism.
This is a measure trying to escape the great need in all of Utah for traffic enforcement officers...That costs money...But look around and all the violations and violators...They're everywhere. We're going to solve the problem by reporting on people violating the law? Any District Attorney that allows this method of enforcement is not worth his salt. Let's hear what they have to say.

This sounds like the joke of the year,SO,FAR,I have faith that our infamous law makers can come up with a better one wothout trying very hard. Hang in there guys and keep looking STUPID.

I agree with the concerns stated here... However I know someone that I really should turn. It is my husbands Grandparents. Both have become a danger yet no one in their family is willing to do anything about it. I know that if I were to turn them in and the family found out I would be hated forever. They are not the forgiving sort. If I could turn them in without anyone knowing it was me I would in a heart beat, right now though my husband has forbiden me from doing anything. I really don't know what to do. How would I live with myself if something does happen. I just can't afford to hurt my marraige anymore with this.

This is a classic example of another RIGHT WING conservative "Nut Job", method of infringing on the public. CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL. Just another reason why i've decided to move away from this state once and for all.

I understand your frustration. However, I challange you to find any state in our Republic that doesn't have similar stupid laws. Law Makers are unintellegent wherever you go.

I'm having trouble believing this ill-conceived law is being given any serious consideration whatsoever. Anyone who thinks this law, as described in this article, is a good idea is, in my humble opinion, not very intelligent.

This is what I am affraid will happen.

SANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- An 86-year-old man who drove his mid-size Buick through a crowded farmers' market Wednesday told police he couldn't stop and may have hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Santa Monica Police Chief James T. Butts Jr. said.

Nine people were killed, including a 3-year-old girl, authorities said. The more than 54 hurt include 14 people with critical injuries, they said. Two of those critically injured are under the age of 2.

This man had a history that shows had he had his drivign rights revoked this would not have happened. This took place in 2003

'Single most horrific, devastating scene of tragedy'
As police roped off the crime scene, a child's blue stroller sat empty in the street amid bodies covered with yellow tarps.

WOW! Now I can make trouble for my exwife and her new guys! And she can make trouble for me! And if I don't like you or you don't like me, we can play the tattle-game!
What a sad and lonely society we have become.........

now is definately the time to call accountability for our elected officials. keep track of the voting and lets get rid of those who are definately not representing us. what a crock. tell me they are at least discussing some major issues, like other countries dumping radioactive waste here and those conflict of interest idiots voting to make them selves rich. And the institutionalizing of a whole bunch of people because of invasive ;laws to even take more of our freedoms and rights away.

While I havn't read the bill and thus I should proably not be commenting on the unknown ... Perhaps the DMN could have a follow-up article with more specifics and responses could be on specifics.

That said

(1)I am sure Mr.Christensen didn't just make this up alone out of thin air...he is responding to a percieved problem.

(2)I do know that there is a problem, I know of several who are a threat to me and you because of real driving problems. When you are laying on the pavement it is a little late to say I should have reported him before.

(3)You can report a person now. You can do it falsely...your group can even agree to testify falsly and harass others.

(4)I hope that the bill would have some consequences for false reporting or harrassment and that the Division would not have a "knee-jerk" reaction based on a single un-documented report but would use professional judgement just as officers do now.

(5)I also assume that a person would establish a pattern of being an accurate or a problem reporter. There has to be accountability for reporters also.

(6)I am personally in favor of an appropriate law !

As you can see by the anonymous insults to our elected representatives, opportunities to condemn are easy to take.
Yes, a lot of California drivers are loose on our streets, but a tattle-law would have to require a higher standard of description and proof of lousy driving, than just another knee-jerk reaction.

High school students unite! Turn in every plate in the teachers parking lot.

I suggest turning in all of the legislators who vote for this law.

Lets just hope that the police are able to get to work after all of the personal cars of the police, highway patrol, and Sheriffs are turned in.
