Got to love comments like Anonymous|8:03. How quickly people forget how desolate this land was before the "crazies" settled it. Grass and trees are about as indigenous to Salt Lake as astroturf is to the moon.

Oh My,
You don't know what fun is until you come to one of our hight priest LDS parties. We start off with a large boul of homemade, strange looking, gringo styled chilly and a few hot dogs on the side. We all set around and gab and gab for hours about absolutely nothing. Finely! a few wonderful LDS teenagers sneak into the party and blast all the old folks with water balloons and then everyone goes home mad...lol!

WONDERFUL (but getting worse) I like many others was born & raised outside of Utah & have live in several places, to me Utah is the best. I have said to other people who have expressed adverse feelings about our town ... You should move to Detroit, if you like it there better, stay, but if you are like me you will come back from Detroit (Cleveland, St. Louis, Oklahoma City etc.) and say what a WONDERFUL place we have. I find there is more to do than I have time or money to do. I have found the people to be friendly, the area safe (but getting worse as others move in) and Rob, I have not experienced the discrimination that you have, sorry about that. Be sure to write back from California and tell us about the neat things you are happy with in the town you choose.
WONDERFUL - BEST OF THE REST for me.

I am a minority and have lived in Utah for many years. I do find that there are prejudiced people, but if you are so naive as to pretend that it ONLY happens here, you better wake up!

I also find that people complain there are no "OPEN MINDED" people living here! Why? Because others do NOT think the way they do! So they end up being the ones that will not admit other people UNLESS they are also anti-Mormon.

I had a friend that would spend his day searching publications in order to find anything even mildly negative about Utah and the LDS Church, then spend the rest of his day emailing his friends about his "discoveries". In spite of all his complaining he would not move out of the state, even though he had a house in Hawaii!!!!! I am not sure if he realized that the things and the people that he complained about were PRECISELY the reason why the State was the kind of place he wanted to live in.
I'd kid him and tell him: "So, this would be a great place if we shipped all the Mormons out of Utah, right?"

Franky -
Don't know where YOU live but all I see is trash, polluted water and air, over-crowding, and people with an Aryan-like attitude. All this inspite of a ward house on every block.
The settlers have thoroughly trashed what was once a nice place.

To Anonymous 8:03 and Franky,
I don't think you two know much about Utah to be making the statements that you have on here. My Mormon ancestors were great and wonderful people and worked extremely hard to make this state a good place to live. I am offended by your comments.
Perhaps you should try driving to Canyon-Lands in southern Utah. It is one of the most Magnificent and beautiful places on Gods planet. Utah has many other breath taking spacious places to visit that are as well charming, sublime, and appear soothing to the heart, soul, and ones mind and spirit. Give it a try you might just find some happiness living here in Utah.

If "Beautiful Utah's" Mormon ancestors were alive today they'd probably go into cardiac arrest seeing how over-crowded, polluted and the nasty attitude that is prevalent in their offspring.

I liked Utah. Was forced to move or would have stayed. I gotta say though, isn't it a myth that this was a desert before the Mormons? Don't get me wrong, the Mormons created a great state for the folks that live there. I have some issues but that's irrelevant. But after mountain biking throughout the Wasatch front all I can say is who planted all those trees and built all those streams in the mountains of Salt Lake?

Everyday you display a mountain of hate on these blogs. There are other states with miserable people just like you and they find nothing good about anything or anyone.
Utah is a grand place to live and extremely beautiful! With all the people moving into Utah it has become very polluted. It hasn't the clean air here that it once had when I was growing up. I have lived out of state and have not found people else where any different. There are angry people like you throughout the USA.

I have often wondered how the perception of Utah would be different if it weren't for the LDS church. There is an amazing variety of recreational opportunities throughout Utah that are tough to beat. However, many people cannot get past the influence of the LDS church and therefore disregard Utah as dull and useless, when in reality it has much to offer.

There are basically two types of people:
A. Those who see things going wrong and focus on change and reform. They are committed to leaving the campground a tad nicer than how they found it.

B. Those who refuse to accept that anything could possibly be wrong and in doing nothing, become part of the problem. After all - This is the place - isn't it?

I have to apologize, I didnt word my post correctly and some people misunderstood my intentions.
First off, I love Utah.

Second, I was rebutting of Anonymous 8:30's assumption that Utah has always been the way it is despite the hard work and irrigation of the early pioneers. I'm sure any history book on Utah will include the testimonies of early explorers that Utah prior to its settlement was worthless and barren. Hence the reason the pioneers sought it out, they were looking for the worst most worthless piece of land in America so no one would kick them out again. Worse than the swampland they built Navoo on.

Fred..and the built the mountains in 40 days and 40 nights and landscaped the desert with illegal immigrant labor.

SMALL

Utah is the first state I have lived in that is small. After all, the weather forecast is always for the whole state, even to some areas outside the state. And what's up with them calling it "Dixie"? Do they fly Rebel Flags down there?

And why do local newspaper repeat other headlines from around the country with the ending "too"? Utah has mortgage crisis, too. Utah has crime rate, too. And every sportscaster has too refer to some miniscule player that has some Utah tie. When was the last time you saw golfer Mike Weir playing on a U.S Ryder Cup team?

I'm still getting over being demonized with the negative term "gentile" laid on me by the "saints."
