Thank You! It is so good to hear about the upcoming library! I was a member of the FLDS community for 40 years. I personally know of the abuse in regards to knowledge and book learning. I became free of the abuse in 1998 when I lost my home in Colorado City, nearly losing my children and being sent to the mental institution by the controlling factors of the community. I remember of my thirst for knowledge of other cultures, etc. while I was a member and was severely chastized for having books in my possession that were not permitted by "authority". It eventually led to my ex-communication... So, a wish to acknowledge all of you that are a part of re-building a library, so those who choose, can expand their horizons! Thank You again!!!

Can anyone truly be "saved" in ignorance, in any sense of the expression? Good for Cruz for doing something good for the community.

so if Jeffs tells is sheep to steal the books and burn them what will prevent it from happening?

Could someone post the address that these books can be sent to in Hildale? Also, any efforts to get something like a portable classroom that schools use to house the books?
What was that story? Farenheit 451?

I'm reading Carolyn Jessop's book Escape about her life in the FLDS community. It sounds like slavery. Warren Jeffs and other men in the community did many times more crimes than the one he is being punished for. My book club wants to send books for the project. How can we join the effort?

All,
Thank you for your support and commentary of the book drive that The Diversity Foundation and Night Flight Comics are joining efforts in. Your contributions are very much appreciated. In response to some of the questions:
The new library is in a private community center, not operated by W Jeffs or his followers and, as such, protected from his dictates. The library is there for the FLDS people and people within the community that seek knowledge. The best way to contribute more books to the library is to drop them off at Night Flight or The Diversity Foundation. Most mail into Colorado City and Hildale go to a PO Box and is, therefore, sometimes inappropriate for boxed mail.
Additionally, the private community center is conducting life skills and mini classes on different subjects once a week. There are no formal classes for children; they are being home schooled. Hopefully, the opportunity that the donated books provide will open doors for more education.
Thank you, all, again...together we are making a difference within the community.

The recent articles in the newspapers and media reports have helped "awaken" the general population of the United States of America to this evil which has hidden under the mantle of "freedom of religion"... it is wonderful to hear of those people who are willing to help these victims, and hope there will be legislation to prevent this type of horror in the future.
