Comments about ‘White House campaign puts the focus on Mormons’

It's a prophetic utterance that we will always be demonized, persecuted and vilified, so deal with it. Let's be strengthend and renewed knowing that truth is the antithesis of evil, NOT necessarily of other churches and that our common enemy is Lucifer and his evil ploys. When we come to that common understanding truth will naturally prevail.

Out here in the Beautiful State of Kentucky we are always faced with negative comments about the church. Many of the congregations have Sunday School Classes to teach against the church. As a convert, I am somewhat entertained by their fears. If anyone takes the time to find out what our true beliefs are, they usually respect the members of the church. We've had a few LDS kids in our local high school who played basketball and everytime they scored or made a good play the high school kids would chant "Stormin Mormon"...I take that as a compliment. Best thing we can do is not take our selves too serious and just teach the truth. Personally, we cannot control what others say about us, but we can correct them whenever possible. Yes, it's a challenge, but sure beats pushing a cart across the plains. I still have all the faith and trust in America. We only hear those who want to bash us, while from my experience the vast majority respect us and our beliefs. They see it in our families and especially in our kids! (Crestwood KY)

Brother Neal every word you stated is so true. thank you...sometimes it is hard to put beliefs and feelings into the right words. It is true we have no control over what another person thinks except by our example...that is a powerful thing and I still believe and have a great deal of faith in the fact that "If the Lord wants Mitt Romney to be President,it will happen not matter what". Thank you for your uplifting comments and the truth with which they were expressed.

Mitt Romney raised the captial gains tax, legislated gay civil unions, and voted for Paul Tsongas in 1992.

How does Mitt's liberal history compliment Mormons?!?

This article is an example of poor journalism.

We, as Mormons, have choosen to be different. We have different beliefs that are questionable to those around us. Our leaders are not what they say they are. We have problems with our history and doctrine. It is not so strange that people outside our club have a hard time accepting us.

Every time Mitt Romney passes a reporter, the PRESS decides he represents "mormonism." That does not make it true. No one cares what Mitt Romney did in 1992, they care what he will do in 2009. No mormon is asking Mitt Romney's record to "compliment" them ... whatever THAT means. The article simply presents the opinions of a few members of the same church. Don't like it? Don't get it? That's okay.

suzyk - thank you!! for reminding me that God is still in charge. Yes, if He wants Mitt Romney to become the next President of the United States, it will happen. Perhaps all these folks should do more praying that God's will be done ... and less murmuring on the DN publications. They might even pray that TODAY'S leaders of our nation will seek and follow the Lord.

Romney put the political focus on Mormonism through his statements that he holds true to his faith. Mormonism also put the focus on themselfs through Romneys campaign with many of their past and present teachings that are contrary to traditional Christian beliefs.

This article mentioned Joseph Smith's claims to have seen God and Jesus and then being visited by an angel, a Book of Mormon prophet named Moroni, that had been dead for 1400 years.
The Bible condemns the consulting with familiar spirits (Deut. 18:10-12).

And yes, people do care about what Mitt or any other candidate has done in the past because it shows what kind of integraty they have had and will have in the future.

Being raised in the LDS church, they taught us openly that other religions were the whore of Babylon and to stay away from them.
If Christian churches are teaching about Mormonism it is to warn them of these teachings that are contrary to traditional Christianity. Christian churches are not afraid of the LDS or their church, they are only trying to warn their people about Mormonism.
