I think Brad Rock is plenty smart. He knows more about sports that I do and he writes better, too. Good thing he's your friend. Maybe he'll just give you a sly smile and get you back when he can...

I nominate Doug Robinson for President! We need a President who is literate enough to write his own speeches and who has a sense of humor!

It is so true! Our choices are horrid! That being said it is every American's responsiblity to look at the candidates and choose the one that would represent them (the voter) the best. Looking at the field and choosing not to vote is not a good option. We all have to do the work and study the candidates and the issues and make a choice. Good Luck America we're all gonna need it!

The country will likely get the leader we deserve. Scary thought, huh?
LJones | 7:57 a.m. Jan. 15, 2008
Doug, I have to disagree. Everyone of those candidates is hot enough to have the guts to run. During Clinton, there was an undercurrent of thought in this country that questioned if anyone would ever be willing to run for president again, given the horrible experience he and all the country were going through. The Clintons banked on that.

How grateful I am that we have vulnerable, weak men and women willing to lay their eternal lives on the line to offer their services to us, to our nation. We can poke fun all we want, but they will go down in infamie [(sp)- sorry, I've got to get to work] as one who ran during this pivital race. If we get a good leader, the race may be forgotten and they will be lucky to only have to face that title personally, but if we get a lousy president out of this, we will all have to face it each time we think of this next presidency with cringing remorse.

Several years ago I read a piece in Reader's Digest suggesting that each ballot have a space where voters could select "None of the above." If None wins then the election process has to start over. I think It's a good idea!

I can still remember a time when our leaders from the mayor to the president where held in high esteem by the majority. Now they are targets, with the ultimate goal to get them imprisoned. No sane person would run for office. That is why we only have egomaniacs running.

It's fun to beat up on folks who put themselves through the latest reality show, "America, I'm Dull", in order to win votes in the incredibly complicated primary elections and caucuses that are so distant in time from the actual conventions and election that we will forget who the nominees are a couple months from now.

But seriously, there are real differences in ability and outlook among this field. As a conservative Republican, I think the fact that all the Democratic candidates sat down and pledged their support to gay marriage disqualifies all of them from being trusted to appoint judges.

On the Republican side, Senator Thompson got into acting by playing himself in a movie about how he defended a whistleblower in Tennessee who revealed that the governor was taking bribes in return for pardoning crooks. Senator McCain is an honest-to-goodness military hero, but also effectively a Democrat on many issues. Reverend Huckabee proposes to make Evangelicals the Established Church of America, another Democrat-in-fact. Mitt Romney is just so perfect that people envy him and thus resent him. He has not changed his views so much as refused to go further on gay marriage and human cloning.

Not suprising that we have such a questionable selection of canidates, given it cost so much to run for an elected office. That along with a two party system that cuts a lot of folks out of the herd. So as stated by Anon. we get what we deserve.
Look at the selections, some do have big egos, some are life long politicians (anyone know what Mc Cain did before becoming a Senator?)excluding the military. Thompson was a hold over from the watergate era and an actor, The Huckabee guy is always lived of some system. Hillary (socialist) never had to make payroll,Obama,(is he fundmentally Islamic?)still he has no real world experience.
Gulianni another long life politician. Edwards a trial lawyer,Ron Paul, Kachinich space travelers(same planet).
Then there's the Romney guy, clean cut super intelligent, good family, has the midas touch, understands how to make things successful, now I ask you who the heck would want anyone of these for our president? .......go figure!

It's annoying how the Deseret News welcomes comments about authors and their columns as long as the comments don't make the authors look like the idiots that they really are. Talk about power of the press and control over society. Do we live in a open environment here in Utah or what?! Robinson is one of the biggest two-faced hypocrites that you keep on your staff. How unfortunate that you give him that much power.
