I have suffered for years and finally am getting some relief!! I did the drug study, and was amazed that there are so many people out there and nobody believes them when they say how much pain they have. I bet if they had this horrible disease, they wouldn't think "it's all in your head" anymore. Not only do you suffer, but so does you husband, children and others around you. This is REAL!!!!!! Thank you for getting something to help. I got to the point that I felt like the doctor was thinking i was crazy and a drug addict as nothing was helping and they were not wanting to give me anything for the pain. So if this helps alot,I will be glad to suffer with the weight gain, I don't want the pain!
Typically diet plays a major role in people suffering from fibromyalgia. Foods like wheat, gluten, dairy, etc. can be the underlying cause of fibromyalgia. There are plenty of complementary alternatives out there, you just have to be willing to ask the right practitioner.
Many of the alternatives do not have the side effects, nor are they covered by insurance. That may not be a bad thing, but probably a different topic for a different day.
I have been on Lyrica since August 2007. I was doing so well, had gone back to work and had so much going for me. Then I ended up back in hospital in so much pain. My doctor increased my dosage to the max and I ended up in hospital again in sever pain. Now my doctor is taking me off Lyrica because I have such weakness in my left side and my balance is terrible. My pain has increase since coming off Lyrica and now they are trying to find something else that might help. Lyrica does help the pain...I can testify to that...just be very careful of the side effects. And people are right. Until other people have the disease....they have no idea the pain that you are in. My husband is just now understanding as he has to help me turn over in bed and get out of bed....and at time help me get dressed and get shower.....People just don't know how disabling this disease can be.
This is a poorly written and not well researched article. The reporter obviously didn't bother to try to find out for himself whether or not the disease is real.He didn't bother to take the time and make the effort to interview any sufferers of the symptoms of the illness or their doctors.Perhaps someday he will get the disease himself and then any questions he has will be answered.I can't believe I found this on page 3 of my newspaper!Poor job,Deseret News!!
