Comments about ‘Utah gymnasts end losing streak to Georgia’

Those red rocks are amazing!! I take my daughter to every home meet I can. The meets are really fun and there is almost a tangible feeling of pride in the Huntsman Center when they compete. Over 13,000 in attendance is amazing but I would like to see every home meet sold out.

This is a championship program and we should all be proud to support the UofUtah.

they were allowing students in for free without giving a ticket or anything...all you had to do was show your id card...meaning there was probably 13,000 paying fans and another 5,000 students...there was a ton of people there...

The best part of the Utah crowd is their respect for other teams. Each gymnast is greeted with polite applause and excellent routines are well-received. In spite of this, Ute fans are always excited when Red Rocks wins. All the girls' scholarships are paid for by fan/alumni donations and Greg Marsden has built the most successful program in NCAA history. The Utes have as good as shot at the national championship as any other team this year.
Thanks to Utah fans, the Ute athletic department and the athletes for 30 years of wonderful fun and Utah pride. Keep it up!

Kelly, I guess you were "NOT" one of the 12,999 fans that applauded and cheered when the first Georgia gymnast fell off the beam?

There was but a select few vocal students who cheered when the Georgia gymnasts fell. For the most part, I thought the fans were very respectful to the opposing team, despite the fact that it was a heated COMPETITION. For me, it is no different than cheering when the opposing team fumbles or throw an interception in football. Great win Red Rocks! Hats off to the 13,000 Utes who where there showing their support!

All I heard when the Georgia gymnasts fell off the beam were the people in the crowd cheering when they got back ON the beam, which is fairly usual to support someone who has fallen.

Who cares if they booed when Georgia fell. This is a competition.

That was my first gymnastics meet in my life and i was surprised that we cheer for their team...it definitely was good sportsmanship from 99% percent of the people there...

i think it was more of a reaction of shock from the fans when their girls fell off the beam...it was kind of an excited feeling though because now we knew we had a chance to win...

i don't think they were cheering because the girl fell, but because we have a chance to win...maybe its the same thing, but nobody wishes to see them struggle...

I've attended every Utah home gymnastics meet for 27 years plus several meets at other arenas. Very few Utah fans cheer when a gymnast from the other teams falls or misses a routine. I do recall a cheering section from Arizona State at a national meet cheering "fall, fall, fall" when Utah girls were on the beam. Bad form. Utah fans have NEVER done that and I did not cheer when the Georgia women fell. I DID cheer when we won...loudly.
