Another good move

By the Repub legislators trying to hold on to their power. Now it just cost the people of Utah a million dollars. Nice going.

Appeal It

If the 9th and 10th say no, but the 6th says yes, then it sounds like the circuit courts are split and it's time to appeal. Let the Supreme Court weigh in to determine which ruling should stand. No employer (public or private) should be required to provide an automatic payroll deduction for any purpose.

Lorin Blauer

The legislature requires involuntary payroll deductions for income taxes which the legislature spends as it chooses. It is pure arrogance of power for the Republican majority to try to deny a voluntary payroll deduction for State employees who choose to pay dues to an organization that protects the employees' interests.
I have been a life long Republican from a family of Republicans. Recently I have come to realize that the iron grip the Republican party has on the reins of power in Utah is unhealthy. The Republicans control both the House and the Senate of the legislative branch. The Governor and Attorney General are both Republicans. All District Court, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court judges are appointed by the Republican Governor and confirmed by the Republican Senate.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Think soccer stadium. Think school vouchers. All those Republican office holders do a great job of covering for and supporting one another. Who is looking out for the interests of the people? Is this why we need the Federal courts?
