Brewer is feeling frustrated

There aren't enough minutes to keep everyone at the 2 and 3 happy. It's hard to say who should have reduced minutes. A few weeks ago I would have said Miles, but he's come on as of late. I really like all three of them (Brewer, Korver, and Miles). I just hope that there's a way that all three of them can co-exist, and that one or two of them start demanding the minutes by the way they play.
Jazz Fann | 7:32 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
What is going on? Brewer is fine, and so is Miles. Obviously Jerry Sloan has to get Korvor some PT to get him into the scheme and make him comfortable early on. Brewer doesn't need to become a focal point of the press to cause any controversy that doesn't exist. Plow up some ground somewhere else please. The Jazz are doing just fine. Gordon is gone.....let it go.

Jimmy doesn't like the sound of this. Jimmy needs Brewer to realize that we need him to become Bruce Bowen and not Kobe Bryant.

The key ingredient is playing as a team to reach the playoffs and also to be successful in the playoffs. One of the reasons that the Spurs are a great team is that they play as a team. They have players that play only 15-18 minutes a game that are vital to winning games. This is what I believe Sloan is trying to teach his young team to learn.
Go Jazz!

The Coach has to do what is the best for the team and is true Jazz is being having problems in the road and at home wins are being good but the team needs more deep and shuffle players to find the right combo will be coach Jerry job. So just play the game.
Annie | 8:53 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I don't know, folks. Can we never be happy unless somebody's nose is out of joint? This is a TEAM game and all of these kids seem to be really trying. Pleeeeeze let's don't start up controversies that are not necessary, especially right now when they are attempting to get back in the race and efficiently incorporate the new guy. I trust they will keep their egos under control and realize that unless they work together and cheer each other on, it is all for nothing. I truly believe that is what they are trying to do. Go Jazzboys!!!!
Gretzky | 9:06 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I agree with Jazz Fann. Sloan, bless his heart, is going through similar preseason adjustments since Korver is new to the team and trying to find out where he will fit in. there will be adjustments for sure. Brewer will be back and no need for the Press to make a mountain out of an ant hill. Brewer is an amazing player but he is also the last man on the starting 5 at the beginning of the season. BE patient. the jazz still won't win the NBA championship EVER. Celtics will take it all this year.

I want Korver to be a constant because I love watching him and we are winning. I would like to see him start for Andrei tonight. It's too early for Brewer to be frustrated because things will work out. He shouldn't think how the team can help him but how can he help the team!
Brewer's Defense | 9:18 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Seems I remember reading somewhere recently that Sloan wasn't happy with Brewer's defense. He mentioned Brewer not getting up on his man enough to keep him from feeling comfortable with the jump shot.

Sure, Brewer is one of the top thieves on the team, but that's not the only kind of defense to be played.

I think Sloan wants Brewer to bump up one more step in his defense by having enough confidence to play closer defense on his man, and to have enough confidence in team-defense that if he's beat, someone else will help out. Of course, that means Brewer needs to know where to go to pick up defense on the man his teammate vacated to help him. Maybe he's not gotten that down yet.
I knew this was going to happen. | 10:03 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
When the Jazz acquired Korver. Its no secret the Jazz are now overloaded and the 2 & 3. On top of these 3, the Jazz have Morris Almond leading the D-league in scoring. They are going to have to make a trade and personally I'd like to see them deal CJ somewhere.

He is a nice kid and getting better but the reality is the Jazz have too many at that spot and I think Almond is going to be a very good player.
Factman | 10:30 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
He knows in the offseason we lost fisher than we tried to sign mo peterson, but failed too which is a good thing thanks kevin O'connor. So Brewer steped up but his only competion was Cj and worthless Gira. Now he has competion with CJ and Krover. I thought brewer played alot better the first part of the season he would drive to the basket. Now he just settles for the jump shot. But Brewer better watch out for the DIAMOND in the rough in Provo MORRIS ALMOND. He has got what CJ, Krover, and Brewer all have only his is one dude. He is the future Starter at the 2 guard in Utah.
Tough Luck | 10:39 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Message to Ronnie Brewer. You've played well...but, the Team is 16-16, before Kyle Korver got here. That means, with you starting (along with other factors) we are a .500 mediocre team. If we keep doing what we've always done, we will always get the same results, hence the need to shake the lineup a bit.

p.s. CJ is bound to make another mental error, so be ready, you won't have to give him so many minutues in a week from now. CJ is still too mentaly weak.
Re:I knew this would happen | 10:44 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Personally you would like to trade our best 3 point shooter,( 49% ). Best defender ( position defense, help defense, team defense ). 2nd best free throw shooter. Hey, do you personaly see what you watch?
Beav | 10:45 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Brewer and CJ both need to read the writing on the wall. The future is Korver and Almond. The Jazz will never be a true contender without a lights out shooter on the floor. You cant have Brewer and AK on the floor at the same time cause neither is a true shooter. Even when they (AK-Brewer) hit outside shots the opposing teams are smiling cause that is the shot they will live with us taking all day. The reason for the recent losing is that in the 4th quarter teams clog the middle and force us to take outside jumpers. The Jazz however listen to sloan and continue to force the ball inside only have double and triple teams and force us into turnovers or forced shots. Korver needs to be in there so that teams cant collapse inside. They wont leave him wide open and if they do Korver will make them pay. Look at what a diffence it made when Hornacek came to the Jazz. Brewer nor AK can demand the defense to stay honest so unless Brewer starts taking AKs minutes,he better be prepared to be more frustrated.
Gbear | 10:55 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I like all 3 of our 2 guards, but I think Brewer is important as he brings an element of athleticism, quickness and slashing that Korver and MIles can't add. The Jazz need athletes on the court, not just pure shooters.
Having said that, I have been VERY impressed and surprised by Korvers defense so far, the guy wants to win and he plays hard. As much as I love watching Ronnie B play, at times, I question his heart.
I like all three getting minutes until CJ implodes, whiich he will soon.

Brewer needs to hang tough, and earn his minutes, this is actually a great problem to have ...3 guys fightin for minutes at the 2/3 and even 4 against some teams.last year it was an overmatched,6 foot Fisher with those minutes,if all three guys play 100% when they are in....I don`t see a problem, also help each other and root for each other...been watching the nuggies, they are healthy and are gonna be tough
Catreus | 11:07 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I think that if the three guards can handle somewhat reduced playing time for each of them, then the overall effect will be beneficial to the team. In the win against Philadelphia we got a total of 37 points from the 2-guard spot on 10-15 shooting and 13-14 ft. shooting. Each of them plays a different game, and so each gives other teams something different to focus on when they're on the floor. If each of them plays reduced minutes, but the team wins, you'd hope that they'll be happy (or at least keep their unhappiness to themselves and not let it become a team issue).
Dave | 11:12 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
the jazz have a pretty good situation at the 2 guard spot, but as always, Sloan will figure out a way to destroy the confidence of all 3 of them. Jerry isn't happy unless he is turning someone into a headcase and consequently in the doghouse. I mean who is he going to blame when the jazz miss the playoffs.
ID Jazz | 11:23 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I wrote it first that you could see Brewer and CJ not happy on the bench at the end of Korvers first game. I have to wonder if CJ is getting the time right now to prep for a trade because you have a four way log jam there(Korver, CJ, Brewer, MO). Brewer, Korver, and MO have at least two years left on there contracts and CJ has just this season and its no secret the CJ is subtly in Sloan's dog house for not working out in SLC and not joining the RMR. As well as CJ should be the odd man out because if the Jazz are out and running then you want Brewer in the game because he finishes well around the basket. If there running the half court set then no doubt you want Korver in the game. Bring Fes up to back Okur and trade Collins, CJ, and Hart for a backup point guard who does not drop the lead every time he comes into the game. Sloan will find a way to make mess of all this and make some unhappy players and then hence the Dogcatcher will have someone for his doghouse.
Phil M. | 11:37 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Brewer shoots 52% from the field, takes good shots, has a good all around game but becomes fatigued fighting through screens, tends to give up a little on defense and dosn't stay with,( in front of ) his man.Right now C. J. is spreading the floor and keeping opposing defenses honest.Korvers free throw shooting, and three point shooting is valuable late in the 4th.He's also valuable when Harpring or Kirilenko go down.We need all these guys.Almond and his D league experience will be valuable next year when we fail to get C.J. signed.I believe we are a back up center and a back up point away from being a contender.Part of the solution is only a Flash away, developing for a playoff run.
jed | 11:42 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
If these players are not happy with their minutes, then they better step up and make the most of their time.
It's a long season and things can change in a hurry.
Injuries and matchups will dictate playing time.
Coach is not going to play someone who is pouting.
Anonymous | 12:23 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I like all three guards and they can make this work. Sloan is the hardest coach in the league to play for, he is too stiff, I like Brewer, he has a great work ethic, he plays hard on defense and he is athletic. I like Korver too, but I think he is a better bench player. I think CJ should get the start, he has looked great the last 2-3 weeks. I hope they don't trade any of them, they are all great players and hopefully they can mesh together.
maxcall part 1 | 12:25 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Jazz Fann and Jimmy's Sneakers are both right. I love the (new) C.J. I have always loved Brewer. His shot is O.K. but around the hoop he is almost as effective as Dominique Wilkens. Korver is every coaches dream. His foul shooting alone should have him on the floor the last 5-6 minutes of every game that is not a blow-out. I didn't even mention his amazing 3 ball. Almond appears to be a wonderful kid from a wonderful family not to mention a possible scoring machine. Harpring, injuries and all is the toughest player on the team I don't expect him to last too many more years but how could you not want him for a possible playoff run. A.K. is a great all around player. I know he has not been happy in this system in the past and I don't know how long the reconciliation with he and Sloan will last. For now they all need to focuss on the Utah Jazz winning games and not stats and minutes. If they do this, and we get a better big defender (maybe Fess) and a better backup PG, they could contend for a title (2-5 years).
maxcall part 2 | 12:29 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Too many good swingmen is a great problem to have... IF THEY ARE WINNERS (not whiners)! Go Jazz, LET'S GET IN THE SWING of things!
Anonymous | 12:38 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Is it possible for the Jazz to hire a Defensive Coordinator? Seriously Sloan should stick to making grown men pout and cry and let someone else teach them how to play defense. The jazz are 4th in the league in scoring and have a .500 record.
bballer | 12:41 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
korver will eventually be the backup small forward as harpring's career dwindles. cj miles is done after this year, with almond being the backup shooting guard next year. plus, sloan and the gm may move brewer to the small forward spot and eventually almond will be the starting sg. the pick up of korver may spell the end of the run for kirilenko.

Without question the jazz have too many 2's and 3's too keep everybody happy when they are all healthy. We have to remember that Andre and Matt have been prone to injury and illness. Like tonight's game against Portland, Coach Sloan still has Brewer, Miles, Korver and Harpring from which to play. Hopefully that will be a positive. Ronnie Brewer should feel very fortunate he is a starting 2 guard at 22 year's old in the best league in the world. The press hurt the jazz when they ask those New York media style questions. Somebody has to sit. Brewer routinely gets beat to spots by his man, while he does get the steal sometimes he is a below average NBA defender, but so is Miles. I have not seen Korver enough yet to decide, but he is more of a veteran. I feel both Brewer and Miles will be capable NBA defenders when they reach their mid-twenties but Sloan, O'Conner, Miller and the jazz fans will not and cannot have that kind of time to wait.
ROD COX | 12:50 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Korver coming to the Jazz is just about as nice to see as SRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES or the SUN COMING UP IN THE MORNING.
James | 1:05 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Easy to do the math..between the 3 and 3 position, there are 96 game minutes.

Andrei, a max dollar player, who is playing well, will get 30. This leaves 66 minutes. Harp, who adds vet leadership, physical play and outside stroke will get at least 20, as he becomes healthy. Brew has been playing well, but CJ is showing a good stroke, and Korver can flat spread a defense and seems to be fitting in well. And Korver will do much better with 20 min to keep his shooting. (I realize his first two games he had less).

This leaves, unfortunately, about 26 min for Brew and Miles. I will say Harp and Andrei will miss some pt due to injuries. Is too bad, as Morris is tearign up the D league.
jimmy z | 1:14 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Well folks I heard in the rumor mill that Sloan
wants to retire. Wouldnt that be a great thing for
this franchise.
Anonymous | 1:54 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Harp and AK47 are both going to be limited by injuries. The extra guy will get playing time at the back-up three. Next year either Brewer or Korver will be the back-up three. Everyone needs to be a little patient. It will work out.

Ol'pro | 1:56 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Jimmy Z , that's the biggest and most POSITIVE thing I seen or heard .

LET THAT BE SO ! Go for Tyrone Corbin !
bddefense | 2:02 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
@ jimmy z

It would be if you think Phil Johnson will do a better job coaching than Jerry.

LHM has said many times when Jerry steps down, Phil is the new coach.

So, yeah, if you think Phil over Jerry is a great thing, then fine. I don't think it will make much of a differance.
bddefense | 2:11 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
@ Ol'pro and everyone else what says "the Jazz should have "insert name here" as their new coach.

I can't believe how many times I'll posted this comment - and people keep ignoring the FACT the LHM has some on MANY occasions that when Jerry steps down, Phil Johnson is the new coach.

HOW HARD IS THIS TO UNDERSTAND?!?

I think it's very clear. LHM has told Phil and everyone else this... so get over it people - the next coach of the Jazz is Phil Johnson.
Ken | 2:16 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Julia in spring!Rod your on to something, I like this Korver fellow. We haven't felt this young around here, since we were.
BRIAN | 4:05 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
KORVER is being put in because they need some guys in there that can keep the defense on the outside to prevent them from playing zone. Brewer is not that great of a 3 points shooter so sloan is smart to put korver in so then the ball can either go outside to him or inside to boozer.
Libby Cox | 4:32 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I like Korver's Jumper. I don't know if he can take it inside.
donny stotts | 6:17 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Who would be a better coach Phil Johnson, Phil Jackson or Phil Murray?
Rod Rowley | 6:31 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I like Kyle!
Wilmer Brethwate | 6:35 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Start Collins at the 3! He is a smart ball player.
haly tot | 7:09 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I vote brewer to take it inside, then c.j to spread the floor., then Korver for a little icing on the cake to seal the deal.Go Jazz!
Willie | 8:23 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I think AK should get the back up point guard minutes ang get Hart out of there and this gets a few more minutes for all of these 2s and 3s. After D-Will he is the best playmaker on the team, it seemed to work in the playoffs last year. Might be stupid but it sure can't hurt to try.
Gretzky | 10:37 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
ID Jazz has it right. The Jazz are working the bench to prep for a trade and make room for Almond and the other Russian currently on the D-Flash team. the Jazz need to unload CJ Miles and Collins for sure. Brewer or Milsap needs to go eventually. unfortunately i like them both but Sloan "can't handle the youth". so unless SLoan goes, one or two of the 3 youngsters is gone soon.

Misses # 12 | 11:19 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Soomeone said Jerry Sloan cannot handle youth? What games have you been watching? The jazz have a 3rd year starting point guard and a second year 2 guard. He gave a second rounder a chance (Milsap) almost no else would have done that. These kids are under 25 years old. The NBA is a man's league. You win with guys that are upper 20's and lower 30's. Let me give you two examples, San Antonio and Boston. For people hoping for a coaching change. Well Larry Miller is smarter than guys like the Maloof brothers. How is going for them after they fired the most successful coach (Rick Adelman)in team history? They are now lottery bound for many years. How many times has Jerry Sloan been in the lottery in 19 years? twice?
Brian | 12:15 a.m. Jan. 6, 2008
Jackson is a hall of famer, Johnson has not got his opportunity yet, and I have no idea who Murray is so I can't comment on him. I did no a Ty though, any relation?
BlazerFan | 12:53 p.m. Jan. 6, 2008
Come to your senses, people. You're talking playoffs like they're guaranteed. Playoff teams don't lose 3 of 4 games to the third youngest team in the HISTORY of the NBA.....let alone the youngest team in the league this year. My only regret is that the Portland-Utah regular season series is finished for this year, so the Blazers can't kick the Jazz around any more this season. Go Blazers!
