What a total waste of money. It's not like the building was historic by any measure.... for the third of a billion dollars that they wasted they could have built a new building from the ground up.... had a much better building and saved 100 million dollars.

Total waste of taxpayers money!

Now this building is finished, let's see how long it takes the legislature to decide to waste more money tearing down the state office building behind it so they can rebuild it to match the other two office buildings there.

Insider Knowledge

I work at the capitol. The capitol restoration plan has included replacing the State Office Building for years. The reason? So all of the building will match. (Slap my forehead in disgust.)

Never mind improving roads and education or lowering our taxes. Let's use tax money to build a new building for a complex that is basically only used 3 months of the year.

Voters can thank Speaker Greg Curtis and Senate President John Valentine for their multi-billion dollar brilliant idea.

Deer Valley Resident,

Where do you get not historic by any measure? Typical view from someone who would live in Deer Valley. Tear it down, build new. Tear up the mountains for luxury homes and condos in Deer Valley.

to typical:

The state capitol has no significant historical value because nothing of significant value has taken place there. Can you even name one historical event that took place in the state capitol? The building is not even "old" as historical buildings go.

I make no apology for living (part time) in Deer Valley... you should be so lucky. I also live in Newport Beach... go ahead a mock residents there as well.

For someone from Newport Beach to say no historic events have occurred in the Utah State Capitol is elitist. Every year Utah's history is impacted by things that happen in the State Capitol as the State Legislature and Governor conduct their business. Is that significant to Newport Beach...no... but I can't think of anything of historic value that has happened in Newport Beach...largely because I'm not from there. Aside from the Salt Lake LDS temple and perhaps the Mormon Tabernacle, I can't think of a building in Utah with more historic signficance.
