Thank you Kevin | 12:12 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
isn't it so much more enjoyable to watch Korver play? he seems like he really loves what he does for a living and i think that is missing in many professional sports! It's great to have a guy to count on behind the arc and it's even better to have two (C.J. Miles). Keep it up and things are looking very good!!

Go Jazz!!!

Win a LOSS | 12:32 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
The Jazz lost tonight and lost big. Thanks a large number of sick fans who embarrassed the team, the city, the state and under the circumstances the league and nation.

My heart goes out to Giri. He's one of the few athletes who really liked Utah, really liked Jazz fans and even after being treated poorly by a grumpy old coach and was traded, never said anything but praise about Utah and Utah fans.

And what did he get in return? A big slap in the face. Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, Dennis Rodman, and Phil Jackson are the type of guys you boo.

Not Giri

I've been a little hard on Memo,(rightfully so) but I just want to say,"GOOD GAME MEMO". YEAH! Not only that:D Will 20 assists! Oh Yeah!2 guards: freethrows:13-14 93% field goals:10-15 67% three pointers: 4-4 100% Brewer, C.J.and Korver rock!!! And any one of them can play the 3 if need be!!! You got to LOVE it baby!!!
Utah is Utah! | 12:48 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Hey, its what we're known for! Voted the best home court advantage comes at its costs. I dont like the booing anymore than "Win a LOSS" does, but its how we play. Part of the strategy. It gets our guys going and slows the other team down. Loudest arena in the National Basketball Association has more effect on the players than anyone may realize. So, would you really rather take a loss? Because if we had not booed, it probably would have been.
amen | 12:52 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
i agree..since when did we begin to "boo" the good guys?! im gonna go ahead and chalk the booing up to byu fans.....good luck giri
themagyar | 1:00 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
NO kidding. Whatever side of that argument you fall on (Sloan's or Giri's) we can't deny that Gordan liked the city, loved the fans, and was a decent guy. To have him get booed like that was pretty disgraceful. I'm glad he's gone because of the chemistry issues and such, and Korver is a HUGE upgrade, but the guy didn't deserve to get booed like that.
To win is a LOSS: | 1:02 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
The team? The city? The state? The League and the nation?! Look, we get your point without so much drama. Sheesh. Your posting is more embarrassing than the booing.
Those that booed should be embarrassed for themselves. I wish "Giri" well in his career, and would not boo him, but come one.
A handful of booing fans embarrassed the nation?

Win a LOSS, your so right but than the real slap was the quote from SlowN .....compete for a job instead of having it handed to you ". That's real class !
Jane | 1:17 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I am thrilled about Kyle Korver, but I think the fans were terrible tonight. We should have been applauding Gordan when he came out on the floor. He didn't ask to be traded and he worked hard while he was here and like Utah. I am embarrassed for all of us. I hope we show more class next time we have a trade. Sports is more than just winning.
To Win is a LOSS (cont'd) | 1:26 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Here's the quote in the national story regarding the boos:
"Giricek heard sporadic boos each time he touched the ball"
Sporadic is very different from overwhelming, continuous, constant, deafening, or resounding.

Good night.
Wow. | 1:35 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
RE: Win a LOSS.
I agree 100% with your comment about Giri being booed. The same sick fans booed Derek Fisher when he returned to Utah. All he did last year was put his heart and soul into helping the Jazz get deep into the playoffs last year. He moves to L.A. for medical reasons for his daughter. It truly is embarrassing to watch and hear our fans sometimes.
I would hate to play for this franchise, not because its in UTAH, but because if you lose a game or end up being traded, these so called Jazz fans will turn on you in a second. SHOW SOME CLASS PEOPLE! YOUR EMBARRASSING!
I agree | 1:46 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I agree with the fact that booing Gira was in bad taste, I for one am glad the trade went off and think we got the better of the deal in deed. But there was no class involved in booing Gira. I only hope that on day I am able to stand and clap for Collins, but the only way that would happen is if he also was vistiting on another team.
ID TenTee | 1:51 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
You forgot Michael Jordan in the group to be Booed. And Charles Barkley, and Jeff Hornacek wearing a Sun's uniform.
My heart has a hard time going out to anyone who gets paid to play basketball.

"The Jazz lost tonight and lost big. Thanks a large number of sick fans who embarrassed the team, the city, the state and under the circumstances the league and nation."

Your being to melodramatic; yes it was wrong for them to boo just because he didn't get along with the coach. But its only sports and I've seen worse fans... Detroit vs Indiana comes to mind.
Minerman | 3:01 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I'd have to agree. Even after the bug spat with Sloan, Giri kept his mouth shut about what happened, never said a negative word. Very disappointing to hear the fans he talked so highly about treat him so poorly. Hope he's treated better next time he comes back. Those of you who booed him should really be ashamed. Thought we were better than that. Good game for the Jazz. Beat a hot team (even if it was at home again). Keep it up! GO KORVER! Always been a huge fan!
rvalens2 | 5:17 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Re: Win a Loss

I agree Giricek did not deserve to be booed during the game. He deserves better than that.

Still, I'm glad Korver is on our team. The Jazz need shooters who can come through for them in the clutch. Korver seems to have that ability. Once he gets acclimated to Jerry's plays he can't help but get better. Not that he's been a slouch this point. Here's hoping he turns into the second coming of Hornacek!

mirdle | 6:09 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I couldn't believe the ignorance of many Jazz fans actually booing Giri. Come on guys, what were you thinking? I was thoroughly embarrassed and disgusted.
Kurt | 6:24 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I don't understand the collective stupidity of Utah Jazz fans. They booed Karl Malone and Derek Fisher because of falsely perceived betrayal. Malone was just pursuing a championship. Fisher is just taking care of his family. Now they boo Giricek for the same reason. He is just being competetive. Come on people, have some class.
Giri | 6:36 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
With Krover playing, did you notice we got no travels called? (I believe Giri got a travel called for the 76ers though...)

On the booing - yeah, its too bad, but the fans were expressing their let down with Giri. He is talented, but very streaky. He probably didn't deserve it, but Utah fans are hard core - if you aren't in a jazz uniform, you almost always get booed.
Old Soldier | 6:57 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Perhaps Giri was a decent person, but he got more care and respect in Utah than he ever earned. He got the hospitality that most who come to Utah are given freely, until they wear out their welcome.
Giri was and is a sub par player. He recieved more than his fair share of playing time and financial compensation. He will not stick with any other NBA team, or get the playing time he did in Utah. His leaving, this trade are major benifits to the Jazz and their fans. It is about a game and fun. As E.T. Benson once said, "Sports shows character", Giri showed his.
Giri was the poor sport and a poor player who the fans had placed hope in, supported and endured through his mediocre play and poor attitude.
Kile Korver is a great young man and a very fine player, with a terrific attitude. He will continue to earn his playing time, the adulation of the fans and his pay check. Basketball, fun and being a fan isn't something you should just be stuck with and have to endure. Glad Giri is gone. I have booed him too.

All of this over NBA basketball...Now we really know where to solve our world problems
Boo Boo | 7:49 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Booing former Jazzmen makes me cringe. I hated when I heard booing for Fisher, and I hated when I heard boos for Giri. These guys are pros, but still, it just doesn't speak highly of us. That video replay of Gordan walking toward the showers with his hand over his nose after that infamous argument with Sloan doesn't express to me a real defiant agitator. His posture, to me, said "I made a stupid mistake in public and in front of my team." I think the Jazz are better off with Korver, Giri had difficulty focusing on where he was supposed to be in the offense, but he didn't deserve to get booed. Lame.
I'm glad the Jazz won, but their defense was still lacking, over 100 points again. They made big plays on the offensive end but could never put the Sixers away until the free throw contest with Korver. The bigs still don't rotate out fast enough and that kills them with dribble penetration. I hate the "I'll get 'em next time" mentality. Maybe it doesn't matter as much at home, but they have an uphill climb to get to the playoffs. Not likely without good D.
boo all you want | 7:54 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Most people don't boo because they don't like a guy, it is because they want to get in his head. They want to make him play worse against their team. Many of us wish Giri the best, but those who booed wanted him to miss his shots against the Jazz.

I heard the booing but it was similar in intensity to the clapping going on at the same time. I hope Giri knows he was appreciated when he did well for the Jazz, but I hope he misses all shots against the Jazz.
RE: BOO BOO | 8:31 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Boozer and Williams better come back to SLC wearing bulletproof vests if they decided to play for another team. My goodness our fans are pathetic. Gira was never really that good anyway and everybody hated him already. Im glad to see him gone. Personally I wouldve cheered whenever he got the ball because I know he isnt going to do anything with it.
Boo | 8:32 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I can boo whoever I want whenever I want. It is something I am glad to do freely. I wasn't at the game, so I missed my opportunity to boo Giri, but if I had been there, I would have been one of the most vocal. Congratulations to the people who did take the opportunity to boo him. I met Giri once, and found him to be rather nice, but on the basketball court his play rarely merits my applause. So I think we should go ahead and boo. The man deserved it.
WildWilly | 8:35 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I think the comments about the BooBirds are right on, especially those about Fisher and Malone. We should keep in mind the fact that Giri got traded; he didn't opt out of his contract. But on the other hand, if you read Giri's answer to the question, "What advice would you give Korver," he said (paraphrasing), "Finish the plays. I didn't." Giri constantly cut plays off so he could take his shot. That, of course, only proves that the trade was good for Utah.
RE: Boo Boo and Old Soldier | 8:39 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
As I read all of the posts today, both of yours really stood out to me. I have been frustrated with Giri for some time now. The booing...I would never do it, but I understand the concept of getting inside their head. The last thing any Jazz fan wanted to see (not that he is capable of it at this point of his career with a new team) was Giri going off for 30 against us and winning on a last second basket, let's face it the booing put
Giri in a position of focusing (possibly) on something other than the game. But a 'national embarrassment and discusting?...wow! I am so happy we have Kyle on the team now, have been a big fan for a few years now, it is amazing to watch the transformation of a defense because 1 player is in the game, now let's focus on our defense and as "boo boo" said get more aggressive on the rotation from all of our players, but certainly from the 4 and 5 spot.
showsomeclass | 8:44 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Booing Gira was uncalled for.
Seems some of the fans were under the impression that they were at rice-eccles and not energy solutions arena . . .
JT | 8:46 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
As a guy with my own medically challenged daughter I can tell you why Fisher was booed. It was because he was on the Lakers. I found it shady that the U of U didn't have adequate medical care (sorry, but that Primary Childrens complex is one of the best inthe world) and that he was in talks with the Lakers the second he got out of his contract. Still, I like the guy. As for Giri, I would only boo him to mess with his head, not becuz I disliked him. I only wish I'd had a chance to boo John Amaechi after that 1-pt 1-reb drama queen finally got his fat salary off the Jazz books.

I loved the comment of JANE "Sports is more than just winning" Yes, it is and i am fully agree with her. Booing didn't fit the Jazz. Thanks to our professional players which haven't been effected from booing. They maybe think that their future would be the same. Do best for a team and when you're out of team then get boo. We're lucky to win the game under that unwished circumstance. Thanks again Jazz players, played well and didn't think when their turn to get boo by Jazz fans in future.
Loser - Boo | 9:00 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
That's right Boo, you have the right and can "take the opportunity" to do many things in this free country and still show a complete lack of class - including booing a "rather nice" guy, who loves the city and fans, did his best, but just didn't fit with Sloan's system. Is it better for the team to bring in Korver? - absolutely, but it's still a classless act that shows very poorly on you and people like you; and like it or not, reflects poorly on your state and impunes Jazz fans in general.

boo malone and fisher | 9:10 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
First of all Malone never played in Salt Lake against the Jazz. He was injured and suspended for both games. If he had played we would've booed him like no other. With athletes it's a love hate relationship. We love them when they are on our team, and hate them when they leave. Who cares if they get booed. They make plenty of money to wipe away the tears. I thought we might have a day without those smelly sneakers that I love to booooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Sneaky Jimmy | 9:18 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
The real problem is the Jazz almost lost this game. They should have won by 20. Things still are not right on the "good ship jerry".
Anonymous | 9:18 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Classless Jazz Fans- Giricek was very good to the city of Salt Lake and never said anything disparaging about it. He spent countless hours giving back to the city and what does he get? A punch in the stomach by classless punk fans. You brain dead red necks treat the NBA like its the WWF.
You should be ashamed of yourselves. Way to teach your children about respect also.
Jazz fan from Hawaii | 9:19 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Booing a player to get in his head? I remember as a college soccer head coach playing against a Lutheran sponsored university. Prior to the game, the announcer stated the University's sportsmanship policy which included chearing loudly for one's own team but not demeaning the other side. The interesting part was that, to a person, the team, coaches, and fans bought into the philosophy. We lost that match by one goal but I have never experienced a more meaningful athletic contest.
ID Jazz | 9:19 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
You don't always make the right decisions," Sloan added. "But ... that's what it should be. Compete for a job, instead of having the job given to you."

So why has not Sloan had to compete for his job. Miller just keeps handing it to him on a platter. A teams record is indicative of there coach is it not. The plays run, the defense played, the record. If Sloan is the greatest coach ever as some people on here believe then how come we are only two games above 500 and you cannot blame that on Giri. With as much talent as the Jazz supposedly have and yet they still struggle. This team is struggling to play for a Coach they do not respect. They all know what happened with Giri is wrong and have no desire to put it out there for Sloan who does not regret his actions. This team is screaming for a coach who will battle with them not put you in front of the firing squad and then watch.
DCJ | 9:32 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
On a separate note...

How about applauding Kevin O'Connor on this one? One of the most interesting things about this trade is it gives the Jazz a very good closer at the free throw line at the end of the game.

I remember some saying they did not like losing a first-round pick, but look at it this way: they could have bought out Giri's contract and gotten nothing return. Would you then have traded a first round pick that may or may not develop later in exchange for Korver who can produce for the team today?

Also, CJ Miles and the Jazz deserve credit for his continued development. Next project, developing momentum and mental toughness to carry over to the road games (one area where the Jazz still miss what Fisher brought).
Win a loss | 9:34 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
The reason some Jazz fans embarassed the good ole USA is because of the Giri is Croation and has a good following of fans from his country watching the game.

They saw how classless some Americans were last night.
Anonymous | 9:46 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
holy cow people shut up about the booing it happened it is over and we need to move on. I am sick of people talking about the booing and bring up the same stupid points we all know that it is embarassing what happened, but cry me a river build a bridge and get over it.

I am looking forward for the future with Korver he fits are offense well and spreads the floor. We really needed him and I think the trade could not have gone better. Overall last night I think the team played well and it helped us that we had a finisher towards the end. both thumbs up to Korver and Miles.
Booing Giri | 9:55 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
One thing you could view the booing as is support for a coach who has busted his but for this team for over 20 years. Many people forget that getting gira was just a way to ship out another malcontent.
jazzrule | 9:56 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Most of us agree that we need a shot blocking big man and a better back up point guard as the missing pieces in being able to win the title. Darko Milicic of the Memphis Grizzlies should be available as they have Pau Gazol at center. They should be looking to change their roster since they are in last place 13 games behind the division leader with 9 wins vs. 22 losses. Darko only averages 6.5 pts a game in 25 minutes, but he is a defensive stopper in the paint with 1.67 blocks per game and he gets 5.8 rebounds in 25 minutes of playing time. So his shot blocking abiltiy is comparable to Andrei KIrilenko, which averages 2 blocked shots in 34.1 minutes per game this year. Mehmit Okur gets 11.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and .4 blocks per game in 30 minutes of playing time. If we trade centers, we gain in blocks per game, rebounds per game and lose a little in points per game with Okur playing 5 more minutes per game than Darko is. Would you go for a trade of Mehmet Okur and Jason Hart for Darko Milicic and their point guard Damon Stoudomire?
JImmi | 10:11 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Didnt like the fans booing Goran. Classless act.
All i can say is who is going to be in Jerrys
doghouse next.
Moto X | 10:13 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I was a bit surprised by the booing but fans pay and they can cheer or boo--their choice.

I can see booing Fisher more than Giri though. Fisher lied to get out of his contract because he did not like it here--and used his daughters illness as a ploy to escape. Low class.

Giri just got the boot. I would not have booed him but I say big deal. Fans are just expressing their displeasure at Giri for making some moderately negative comments about how the organization is run. Fair game I say.

Funny that he basically admitted breaking off plays to get his own shot--that is why he got the boot. Same selfish behavior over and over.
Anonymous | 10:26 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
If the Jazz can find a more solid backup point guard, if they can properly develop and integrate Fesenko and Almond, and if they can figure out a way to incorporate all their players into a productive rotation, THIS JAZZ TEAM HAS ALL THE PIECES NECESSARY TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP.

No more changes necessary other than these, and I think we are set for the long haul.
Yella Fisher | 10:30 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
While I am not among the group that would have booed Giri or Fisher, I can certainly understand the desire to. Giri was less understandable than Fisher mostly cause he was traded and only really vented about not being respected as "a man."
As for Fisher, i think most fans were understanding - until he decided to play for the Lakers. Any other team would have been cool, but the Lakers is the height of treachery. Sorry Fish - I love you man, just wish you weren't so yeller!
BTW - Korver is a good addition to the team. Hopefully Miles keeps playing well, so that he doesn't get buried on the bench.
People who boo | 10:43 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
People who boo are typically less educated, live in trailers, watch NASCAR, beat their wives, and view internet pornography.

The purpose of this message is to educate the remaining Jazz fans when they see the behavior happening the type of person that they are dealing with.
