Tonight was a real low point for the Utah Jazz. Sometimes players and even coaches can embarass a team, a city, even a state. Tonight the fans at ESA embarassed everyone associated with the Jazz.

If anyone should be publicly ridiculed for Giri leaving Utah it should be the coach. Giri, loved SLC and was a class act. My heart goes out to him. For the second time this year I am ashamed to be a Jazz fan. Fisher wanted to go to LA and used his daughter for an excuse and it was classless to boo him. Tonight however was a new low

Embarrassed

Booing Giricek?! Why? He liked playing in Utah, he like being in Salt Lake, he never caused trouble on or off the court and he has always said nice things about the fans. It's not like he demanded this trade, he just couldn't get out of Sloan's dog house. I wish I could have been there to cheer for a former Jazz player that actually wanted to be in Utah playing for the Jazz. Cut the guy some slack.

Classless

I agree completely with the comments above. I am a season ticket holder and a long-time Jazz fan. Gira is a great person and did not deserve to be booed. I cheered for him, but my weak efforts from the upper deck didn't do much to overpower the boos for Gira during the game. I felt embarrassed during those moments to be counted among Jazz fans. It was really quite classless.

Sad in Sanpete

For the second time this season Jazz fans make sports fans around the country scratch their heads at the type of people that must live in Utah

I consider myself a Jazz fans Jazz fan, and I am ashamed to be one today. I felt like Fisher took advantage of his daughters situation, but was shocked when he was publicly booed.

Giri on the other hand never had anything but praise for SLC and Jazz fans. He was traded because of a personality conflict that 99% of human beings would have with Jerry Sloan.

Utah fans wonder why free agents dont want to come here. Well you gave them two more reasons in the way you treated Giri and Fisher.

agree

When did the class of Jazz fans begin to deteriorate? We used to be major league fans here, when did we become bush leaguers?

Ol'pro

WELL..... Another By-product of the SlowN negativism.

All of the Above are so right .(Agree,Sanpete, classless,Embarrassedand Ashamed)

Too much Giri sympathy here and too much Sloan bashing. A player's personality is often reflected by the style of his play. Giri took stupid shots, turned the ball over, played psuedo-defense, didn't play within the offense, and was a selfish, shoot-first type of guy that had a good streak once in a while. His personality clash w/ Sloan has more to do with his on the court persona from what I percieve, that and the fact that he liked to argue. A louder boo was justified at ESA for the waste of $4 mil he was for us. Fans don't have to hate him, and I dont as a person, but good ridence and good luck playing for the vet. min. next year because on the court hes not worth a dime more. If he loves Utah so much when he retires he can buy a home in Park City.

Rush to Judgement

SOME Jazz fans booed, that does not mean that all Jazz fans booed. I think Giricek understands that.
Besides, Giricek seems to be a level-headed guy that would understand that.
I would not boo him, and I wish him well. I wish those that booed him had not, but come on, people. A handful of people make some noise and suddenly you're acting like they were yelling ethnic slurs? (Are there Croatian slurs?)
Nothing was thrown, no fighting took place, nor was any one "waiting outside" for Giricek.
You're reactions are more embarrasing than the initial boos.

Jane

Touche! Let's get some class back in the game. Giri and Fisher both were great for us. I am psyched about Korver. Let's give him a reason to stay here. Several years ago when Mayor DeeDee Cordini was introduced, the crowd booed her, too. She was in hot water for the things she did, but she was still the mayor. We have become disrespectful as a nation and decensitized to decent and dignified behavior. I am glad everyone commenting tonight has some class. Go Jazz!

Sad in SLC

Change to 99% to 100% of human beings that don't like to play defense. And Jazz fans have always known how to boo. At least we didn't throw beer cups.

For shame, you monsters.

The treatment of Fisher was bad, but Giracek?? The guy was completely reliable to the team for almost 4 years, and this is how he's repaid? Unbelievable. This is the worst thing to ever happen to Utah sports.

I blame Sloan for this entire situation. Giracek is absolutely innocent. Jerry is maniacal. I also blame Sloan for the Jazz getting stuck with such a one-dimentional & mindless player in Korver. Kevin O'Connor is juat a "Yes-Sir" for Sloan's draconian regime of obscenity and abject abuse, and it's his complicity that has caused the Jazz to be basically devoid of championship-caliber talent.

Things are going to go downhill at about 3000 miles per hour from here on out. This will be the most horrible January in Jazz history. Sloan is going to find that his outpouring of hatred and negativity will cause him to lose the team permanently, which he undoubtedly deserves. It's just too bad for Giracek, such a team player and solid defender. The Jazz are going to miss his heady play.

quite silly indeed

Frankly, I couldn't have gotten up the energy to yawn at Giri, let alone boo him.

You came off as idiots, fans.

Jazz Fans???

Classless, Jazz fans, classless. Jazz fans used to be the best and classiest in the league, and despite moving away 10 years ago, I still love the Jazz and watch every game via the NBA League Pass. But recently you've begun to humiliate yourselves, from the classless booing of Fisher a few months ago, the throwing of items on the court during the playoffs last year after a bad call, and now the booing of Giri. He wasn't a perfect or great player, but still didn't deserve that for the reasons mentioned by others above. I moved from SLC 10 years ago, and always tell people what a great place it is. Utah has always had an inferiority complex, and you need look no further than those actions at Jazz games to understand what the rest of the country sees. Starting to look like Philly lite. You can do better.

Add Some Perspective

I agree that Giri has been a very class act with his comments and behavior while here and since he left. He didn't deserve in any way to be booed.

However, let's add some perspective. A few idiotic (but vocal) fans do NOT define the Utah Jazz fans. Fans cheer for their team and boo opposing players. There will always be fans in every arena that act like idiots, but the majority of fans in Utah are still a class act.

As for Fisher, that is another matter entirely. In that case, we were sold a bill of goods. I think Fisher deserved some of what he got...

MarkA

I wish I could have been at the game to cheer as loud as possible for Giri. What is wrong with some of our fans? Are they such homers that they can't stand cheering for anybody wearing a different uniform?

What Giri?

I'm glad you left.

With those comments, next time, I'm booing louder.

Class

If only class could win games but it's not. We want more talented, more versatile players for our Jazz team and I'm glad we got Korver. It's all part of the game.

Unbelieveable

I've watched every Jazz game for the last 10 years. I didn't mind when the fans booed Fisher, but was in disbelief when I heard the loud boos on TV for Gira. The announcers were upset and commented that it was absolutely Classless! Gira couldn't get out of the doghouse long enough to warrant any boos...unbeliebable!

No Class

It's really too bad Jazz fans booed Derek Fisher and now Gordon Giricek. What message does that send? To the rest of the country it makes Utah look like a bunch of classless fans. To current players on the Jazz roster and players of the future it sends the message that once you are gone you are worthless to the community you once were a part.

Now I am all for cheering loudly for your team and even booing has its place. But these two instances make me wonder if I want to be sitting next to fans with no class.
