Can't decide | 1:11 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I honestly can't decide between McCain and Romney. McCain seems like he may be the better candidate to improve our foreign policy and relations with the world. Romney seems like he could be a lot better at managing our country domestically. McCain seems like he will get along better with the Dems. Romney seems like he will be able to push things through the Democrats. What do I do!???
Whiplash | 2:00 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
It's all about leadership. This guy has it - the others don't. He would do more for America in his first term than has been done in the last 20 years. I don't dislike the other candidates; they seem like good guys (except Hillary :o). I'm just sure Romney would do a better job. He has the resume. He has the smarts. He has the vision. He has the values. He has the experience. He's headed in the right direction and he has my vote. We need someone to save this great country!
Romney Supporter in Boston | 4:05 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I live in Boston, and I hope Mitt gets the nominations. The papers are trying to find dirt on him here and to "spin" against him. It is clear in their word choice. But the rhetoric is weak when stripped down to the facts. He would do very well.

Also, he doesn't need so much foreign experience, as he does need to know how to build a strong team, and he obviously does. He is good a data-driven decision making.

I'm glad many Utahns support him and are helping at his call centers to get the vote out. That is one way to make a difference, especially where Utah is almost certainly going to Romney.

Any democrats in Iowa these days? They seem to have dropped off the earth here in Mittburg.
my2cents | 7:03 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I'm not a huckalemming. No way I can vote for a bigot. I like Fred T. But he's sorta sailing down the swanee river. McCain and Huckabee is playing dirty. It's not 'negative' to state facts on EITHER side. Mitt did not cross a precious picket line, and he's never 'preached' at an anti-(name the faith) event. So, because of resume, PROVEN leadership, and yes, the LDS thing factored in for sweetness, my vote will be for Mitt. And I think it would be a good thing to have a moral guy like Mitt in the White House.
Mr who 2008? | 7:09 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TO JAMES ! THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT. WE CAN GET DOWN AND DIRTY SO LONG AS WE DON'T GET MEAN SPIRITED AND VULGAR.
Rob | 7:24 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I think we need a great leader like Mitt Romney. Did you see the pictures of Mitt Romney helping a family in California after the wild fires? He came with his son who lives there to help dig out a tree stump where the tree had burned. The branches of this huge tree had already gotten cut down. The stump of this tree was as big across as a man is tall. He worked the whole time there without the press getting a wind of it. He had on heavy gloves and used a pic axe and shovel. The owners of the house took the pics. Mitt was there on business but took the couple of hours he had available to get down and do some very heavy physical labor. That was not done to promote his campaign, it was done to help someone who needed it. This is Presidential Material.

Mitt Romney without any question is fully capable of leading this nation to greater heights with superb dignity and dedication. His record attests to his unique and unquestionable talent and proven abilities. Mitt Romney represents and encompasses the completeness of the tried and true emblems of the fiber of our country DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY.

What is the difference between a Democrat and Mittburg? They are one in the same and point heading towards the left.

Is it just a coincidence that NBC's the Tonight Shows (Leno) first show back since the writers strike had Huckabee on it for 2 segments? Hmmm...also on the eve of the vote in Iowa. I too can't decide on Romney or McCain. Leaning towards Mitt.

Huckabee is a wolf in sheep's clothing. I see him and I honestly get a little sick to my stomach. He makes me nervous with all his hate speach, floating crosses, fake hunting and sanctimonious preening. Mitt Romney is the only candidate that I will vote for. He knows how to be a leader and is the best all around candidate.

What I like most about Romney is how fast he can blink his eyes when in a tight spot.
I believe this is not a sign of confidence.

I like Mitt. While not perfect - who is(?), I think he'll do a great job as president & make us all proud. As Al Queda continues it's war on America & our domestic problems escalate, we need a caring, fearless thinker with character. That's Mitt. A modern day Harry Truman. Go Mitt!
russ | 9:01 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Wow... I can't believe people would write in and say that it is ok for Mitt to not have foreign experience, or wash.dc experience...
isn't that how we got whatshisname? The guy who does know north from south, calls other countries evil, and sends our best to die for oil? or was it just revenge or something. who knows...
gee ... give me McCain. No ojt for him.

and please, bus. experience does not equate into gov. leadership. they are not the same.

Your hack for Huck is expected.
Buh Bye | 9:04 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Mitt is going down. I hope he wins the Repub nomination because any of the Dems would crush him in a national election--Utah notwithstanding. Those 5 electoral votes won't help him much.

Buh Bye, Mitt.
Ha Ha Ha Ha | 9:19 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Let's say Mike Huckleberry becomes president--heaven forbid. That's really a stretch. the thought of having to listen to the same old corny jokes that he has used throughout the campaign and again on the Jay Leno show last night for four years is just too much to contemplate. However, he was funnier and more entertaining than Leno, Letterman and Conan without their professional joke writers. What we need in the White House is a Statesman, not a comedian.
Michael | 9:20 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I sure hope Mitt can not use his money to buy the presidency, I hope today is the beginning of the end for him!
Anonymous | 10:01 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Mitt is using funds to help more people get acquainted with him; votes cannot be bought. He is a powerful leader and one with the stature our nation needs. Go Mitt!

A LDS president that refuses to denounce Torture?

No thank you!!

Robert from NC | 10:07 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Today is the last day before the Iowa Caucuses. Mitt Romney has worked hard to get past this hurdle. He will win and he will become the President of the United States as long as we believe in doing the right thing and electing the smartest, strongest, and most capable candidate. My older brother told me in the past that Mitt could not win because he was a Mormon. At Christmas he said that he is now fully behind "that Mormon". Both he and I are Vietnam Veterans and we have fought for this country. Mitt Romney will also fight for this country with all of his heart, mind, and spirit. The USA will be a better country with this great man leading her.
dglarsen | 10:09 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Until Mormonism stops making second class citizens of people who live within this culture, I hope Mitt is kept at bay for his participation in creating second class citizens with all the bigoted positions he has taken. Mormons want to be accepted, yet they don't accept others different from themselves. They'll claim they accept others, however they're beliefs exclude others. If they want to be included in the norms of society, it's time for them to open their own beliefs to be influenced by reason, science and intellect. Mitt represents part of that problem as he has already been a leader and hasn't spoken up for those who need to be seen nor has he led the charge for justice and equality for all. And he's surprised that 30 - 40% of Americans wouldn't vote for a Mormon?
Joe in Seoul | 10:20 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Watching this from a distance... I am suprised that people don't want a canidate who is owned by special interests, yet when a successful person uses their own money they are trying to "buy" the election!?!?
SaveTheConstitution | 10:21 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Mitt Romney can only save the constitution. Let the Mormon Prophet's prophesy be fulfilled!
Bob | 10:33 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
I can't think of any president in my lifetime that came in with significant foreign leadership experience. But they all learn it (except George W) while in office. I think Mitt will learn it well and be a great presidential choice. Hilliary lost my vote years ago when she called me names because I thought Bill was likely unfaithfull, even while in office. Hillary has never appologized for being wrong publicly about her husband. And she knew he was a dog when she called Americans names and blamed everyone else BUT her husband.
Andy from AZ | 10:37 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
McCain is too old. He's seldon coherent enough to digest new thoughts, which he would have to do daily as president. Oops. What's George's excuse?
Get Real | 10:42 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Leadership means having character. Although highly competent, Mitt Romney lacks character and is a phoney, plain and simple. Sure one can have a change of heart for this or that issue -- but Mitt's timing from supporting a woman's right to choose, to cracking down on illegals and becoming an avid hunter couldn't possibly have been better, could it?

Romney is a blank slate upon which his latest constituency may write whatever it wants. So if Romney gets elected, just remember it's not him sitting in the Oval Office; it's whoever holds the keys to 2012.
Scott E | 10:50 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
dglarson....Its time for Mormons to open their own beliefs to be influenced by reason, science, and intellect? No thanks, we are a Faith based people who's beliefs are open to everyone. It still amazes me when people think they know what we believe.
Second-class citizens welcome | 10:50 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
dglarsen,
I presume you are referring to "gay" Mormons i.e. those who deal with same-sex attraction. The church will never accept homosexual activity as proper just as it will never accept adultery as proper.

The church's stance is clear: sexual activity outside of marriage is considered a sin. The church will not allow gays to marry each other.

If being a sinner makes a person a second-class citizen, we are all second-class citizens. All of us can still participate fully in the church if we repent.
I'm tired of "Prophesies" | 10:54 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Most "prophesies" are never fulfilled and just fill people's head with garbage! Get a grip and realize that a Democrat will take office in 2008! This has nothing to do with Romney's religion or anything directly against him....it has to do with the fact that the majority of Americans are tired of bad Repubican rule.
Alex | 11:05 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Joe in Seoul - Senator Barack Obama has not accepted money from special interest groups. All of his campaign financing has come from individual donors. Some of these are major, like David Geffen, but many others are individual donors like you or I who contribute $5, $10, $20, or $50. This is a politician being supported by the people who are likely to vote him, not by groups. Some money from a special interest group leaked into his campaign, and do you know what he did when they found out? He returned it. Someone tell me that he doesn't have integrity.

Voting for Values | 11:13 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
Mitt Romney's eye movements in response to challenging questions suggest neurological activity. Although blinking could result from looking directly into the bright lights provided by the media (especially for wearers of contact lenses), it seems more likely the former governor's brain is working and he is using his superior intellect to formulate an answer. Some may recognize these eye movements as the opposite of the "deer in headlights" expression common on the faces of those who do not know what (or how) to think.
Whiplash | 11:13 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
DGLarsen - what? what? Your reasoning is swiss cheese. Mormons make others second class citizens because we don't accept their false teachings???? Take a day and read the bible. You will find the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints to fit perfectly over the top...the same organization as Christ's church, the same priesthood, the same missionary zeal, the same understanding of baptism by immersion, of baptism for the dead, of a need for temples, of understanding of the nature of God and most importantly of the mission of Jesus Christ. Did Columbus relegate believers of a flat world to second class citizens? Mormons don't want acceptance if acceptance is the early christian creeds that distort the truth. If that's your definition of Christian - we're happy to simply be seen as believers and followers in word and deed of the one true God, Jesus Christ.
Nate Daniels | 11:19 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
It really baffles me why so many people continue to support Romney in today's information age. The guy is so inconsistent in so many areas that integrity concerns alone should be bogging him down. There are many sources to find the truth behind what candidates are saying including factcheck.org and the Washington Post Pinocchio Awards.

If you are seriously completely devoid of anyone on staff capable of investigative reporting on these candidates, I'd be happy to do it for $100 a story. You should have been blasting Romney from the moment he bold faced lied in the first Iowa debates when cornered on his history regarding abortion policy.
Loving | 11:19 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
And wanting to marry someone of the same sex makes them a second class citizen? Maybe to you, but countries are catching on fast to the ridiculousness of this. You equate someone's attraction as being a sin (yes, it's Biblical), but how many things have we changed from the scriptures? Do we have slaves anymore? Do we think of woman as second class citizens? (Some people still do, but that's changing fast as it should)! There are many examples of things not understood thousands of years ago that we understand better now.
It is a religion's right to believe what they want....that's why I left traditional religion because I understand it's nature. You're probably right about your church, but you are not right about our nation!

When did Torture become a Christian value Mitt?

You're a representative for my Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Are you really gonna support this hideousness? I'm so sad.
Thurl | 11:44 a.m. Jan. 3, 2008
DG Larsen, Mr. larsen, It may not be the gay issue. I do believe that some non-LDS people try to make issues out of things/habits that Mormons don't accept. Mormons aren't going to participate in social gatherings at taverns and bars, they're not going to take trips to Wendover to be buddies or hang out at Elks Lodges. Because of this, some Non-Mormons feel rejected and isolated. I have many friends and family from other faiths who accept Mormons and respect their differences. They don't impose their lifestyles on me and my family.

We(soon to be),Americans must set a new page of modernization and foreign relations leading the way in discovery of modern medicine, advanced technology, & military strength in all countries around the globe. In addition, the morale of our govt.leaders should be undefiled this is the only way to get our respect & integrity back which we surely deserved. Forget the past and don't let those who have been abusive and immoral enter in any type of position in the govt. Let's vote for the real leaders this time. I am calling everybody use your "Right to Vote". I will!

Not partisan minded,

That is right! How in the world does a Mormon accept torture? Come on, all of you out there, explain it. Quote the scripture, quote the book. The Mormon kids I grew up with would certainly not have approved torture. This makes zero sense, unless one is running for office and wants to look... like the president? yuck.

And, please tell me when and where this patriot served in the military. Did he? Why, why not? And the 5 sons? Did they? which one, when, where?

Watch out for those who wrap themselves in the flag. It might be to cover up something...

Well, Mitt after spending $12 million in Iowa, you should have been able to buy that State, keep spending it will help the economy.

Seems the pot calling the kettle black.
Mormons bigoted? And exactly what was your rant? Friendly and persuasive towards a particular creed?

I need to comment on the "Waterboarding" comment above. For crying outloud, waterboarding has kept you safe, me safe, and all of the American citizens safe from further terror attacks. Only the most criminal and dangerous slim are subjected to this procedure for vital information. When needed, it should be used. So don't you dare use this lame reason to bad mouth a truly good person - Mitt Romney.

I have read hours and hours of material on Mitt Romney and he is a man of integrity and honor; not to mention how brilliant he is. He will surround himself with the best and the brightest and will lead this nation like none other, so don't you (Nate Daniels) dare give me this lack-of-integrity crap. Mitt Romney is more qualified and where he lacks in experience, he'll thrive on the new challenge and be victorious. McCain is too old and needs to retire in Arizona. Huck is so two-faced and will fizzle after Iowa. Thompson too lazy, and Guilian's past is coming back to haunt him. The decision is clear and easy -- Mitt Romney for President!
