Will new year bring Jazz a new attitude?

Better than record? | 9:26 a.m. Jan. 2, 2008
Pat Riley once said that you're never better than your record. The same is true for the Jazz, and players and coaches need to come to terms that they're no better than what their record states they are.

Here's to hoping the Jazz turn things around in the new year.

Tim: the Gong Show went off the air thirty years ago. You, me and probably about 6 other people have any idea what you're talking about. Could you please freshen up your cultural references?

What was the deal with having so many games on the road in the first 1/3 of the season. I know its the NBA that creates the scheduling, but did we really need to get half of our road games out of the way already (19 out of 41 road games). There isn't supposed to be a strength of schedule, like in the NFL, but this would be rough for just about any team.

Mutombo, anyone? | 1:56 p.m. Jan. 2, 2008
What do you guys think about bringing Mutombo to the Jazz? Houston looks to be in disarray and they may be looking to bust up the team, perhaps the Jazz could swing a deal. I know Mutombo is old and on his last legs, but he's a veteran and all he would need to do is provide defense and be a presence in the middle. Moving to a contending team like Utah may even elevate his game a little. I think it may be worth a shot if the price is right, let's offer Collins and Ronnie Price in return for Mutombo. What do you guys think?

Every team in the NBA has 41 home games and 41 away games. Hopefully the JAZZ will improve their record having more home games than away. Should have beaten Boston did some stupid things down the strech like CJ Miles mished three point shot. Boston must of had alot of home games they don`t look that good to me

RE: Mutumbo Anyone? Not a good idea. The minutes he would give us wouldn't be worth it. The minutes he would give wouldn't be that significant. I say just give more minutes to Millsap.
Re; Anonymous | 2:52 p.m. Jan. 2, 2008
Yea but Millsap is more of a power forward and not a true center. If the Jazz aren't planning to make a deal, then the least they should do is recall Fesenko and give him the minutes to gain some NBA experience. They are wasting the minutes by playing Collins. Okur needs to step it up on defense, also. He did a decent job last year vs. Yao in the playoffs, so Okur is capable of playing some D when he puts his mind to it.

Mutumbo? To say he is "old and on his last legs" is the understatement of the year (not much competition, but it could stand for a while).

Mutumbo is 97 years old and terrible, I'll take Collins over him.

I like the Mutombo idea, but what on earth makes you think houston would want collins?
Anonymous | 4:16 p.m. Jan. 2, 2008
Mutumbo is too old and fes couldnt handle the minutes and i dont think he could handle being with the jazz for the rest of the season seating on the bench keep him in the d-leauge for he can get nba experirnce down in orem

You are never better than your record? I think Golden State disproved that statement last year. Plus Pat who? Look at Miami this year. He is an over rated coach and always has been. He is more of a motivator than a coach which is why he even made it as a coach.

How about Eddy Curry? I,m sure Scotty Laden still has a few connections in NYC

If I'm not mistaking, when the Jazz were winning they were scoring (110 plus in most games). We all know that the Jazz are horrible at defense and when they try to slow things and play defense, not only can they not stop anyone it also seems to hinder their scoring, hence the many losses (they also leave waaaaay to many people open on the perimeter). They need to focus on the offense and let the defense come to them instead of the other way around. I know defense wins championships, but they won't even make the playoffs at this sluggish pace.

To everyone wanting trades. Why? We have a perfectly capable team. I do think trading Giricek was a good move cuz he was streaky at best and doesn't fit in here, however everyone else does fine. Though Collins is bad most of the time, he does actually try hard on defense which is more than I can say for a starter or two.

the answer is NO
re: i like it | 7:21 p.m. Jan. 2, 2008
I know the Rockets probably wouldn't want Collins, so we throw Price in to sweeten the deal and offer Houston a promising young player. We would be rid of Collins, and the Jazz probably don't have Price in their future plans anyway. We would get in return a veteran center who likely has enough left in the tank and would give the Jazz a sorely needed defensive presence in the middle.
thomas fawcett | 10:01 p.m. Jan. 2, 2008
i think they should keep ronnie and collins. Because ronnie is a promising young player and collins does give some of a presense down low.
I think they should at least maybe get rid of collins but not price.

the jazz are at least going to go on a 10 game winning streak cause they are playing mostly at home.

like i said ronnie has potential collins dosen't.

the kyle korver deal was awesome.

it starts now.

the Spazz are mediocre at best, will hover around .500 and maybe make the play-offs as the #1 seed where they will be mercifully be dispatched. Go support more deserving athletes at the college and prep level and quit worshipping these overpaid players from the Utah Spazz!

P.S. And trading Jaron Collins for whoever or Giricek for Korver is paramount to shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic, when the boat hits the iceberg it won't matter...
To Answer Your Question Redux | 11:48 a.m. Jan. 6, 2008
Sorry the #8 seed (better clarify that), I was delusional when the Spazz were actually good, in the late 1990's. Unfortunately the Spazz were not clutch performers like Michael J. but we came close...
