Previous articles touted UHP troopers' claims that finding impaired drivers on the road was like shooting fish in a barrel and the highest rates of impaired driving is over the holidays.

The State of Utah's own statistics don't bear this out.

Perhaps the federal grant money-funded scare tactics were to induce some pre-legislative session hysteria.

Time to redefine

To keep this revenue stream they need to redefine the problem. I can see a .040 law coming. The other question arises: what other revenue sources were discover at these stops? Maybe dirty license plates and cracked windshields?

And this is one of the reasons I love living in Utah County

Arizonan

Count yourselves very fortunate! There were a total of 2,828 DUI arrests made in Arizona between Nov. 23d ending Tuesday morning. A significant proportion of those were extreme DUIs. Under a new drunken-driving law here, DUI offenders face a minimum 10-day jail term, fines and license suspensions and must install an ignition-interlock device in their vehicles. It appears from the number of arrests it didn't stop most of them. I have 2 teenagers that drive and it really concerns me to have them on the road with so many idiots! So Utah- count your blessings!!!

Moderation

In addressing the Arizona situation, what is wrong keeping it to 2 to 4 beers in a night out? Why do some have to do a dozen beers, a couple mixed drinks, and 7 shots? Moderation in all things- drinking, religion, everything!!

I marvel at how some people see this great news and promptly try to find something cynical and negative to say about it.
