Alcohol and drug use are usually a precursor to domestic violence.
Interestingly enough, the article leaves out any information on the victims of domestic violence - men. There just isn't any awareness of male victims or support in our communities. Let's not hide our heads in the sand as a society and ignore the fact the men are just as likely to be victims of domestic violence as are women.
I really don't think you have support in any statistics that men are just as likely to be victims of domestic violence as women.
I agree there is little support for men at the YWCA and as I am a former adocate at the shelter. The only male victims I was aware of were through the department that worked with culture and it was rare at that. They shyed away from the gay culture as well and I knew of a women who was turned away by an advocate because she was from the GLBT community and she wasn't sure if she could stay in the shelter.
