Comment to the 40 or so previous blogs -- What a waste of the human mind.
Dear Ohio alum | 12:06 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
It would seem that relevance and importance can be conjured up and perpetuated without any substance. Just ask wasted, hill billies flocking to the horse shoe every game to watch the NCAA's most fraudulent team. Here's the fraud-10's motto: incest is best, keep it in the family-only play teams like app st.(oops) so we can win. This way we guard our BS ranking and assure ourselves a good BEAT down by the SEC in a bowl game.

Therefore, we here in the "Mountain" will call ourselves the most relevant and important thing going. It will stand until App state comes to town.

16 out of the last 20 times Ohio fake-state has started in the top 25, they have finished lower in the final standings.

Don't misunderstand us, we love you! we just hate Yewete football.
BSU Castoff | 12:14 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
But can the guy play on grass?

Maybe that was his problem at BSU?
RE: Jay | 12:21 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Jay,

I think you are right, all of Christendom is reading these posts and taking it all seriously. Rabid fans posts are always what I consider first when evaluating church doctrine.
Jay and Jason | 12:23 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Where is it written that BYU football is a missionary tool?

I doubt anyone has said "Nice catch, call the missionaries".

BYU fans do not need to conform to Ute stereotypes.

Keep on topic, and quit worrying about the church. And Jason, there have been NO "hate filled comments" from BYU fans. And Jay, what would you have the "brethern" do?

It's not the Mormons we need to worry about, but the Morons.

Grow up, kids...
sounds good | 12:27 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
go easy on the sloppy seconds comment, its seems that in the cotton bowl year byu's best return man was a usu aggie transfer for heaven's sake, not to mention utes picking up tate after leaving the aggies, and one of the popinga boys leaving the aggies. usu football sucks right now, but that is not the topic. its tranfers from other schools, and good for this kid if boise st. wasn't a good fit for him, and he is given a second chance to prove himself at the D-1 level in and out of the classroom.
utah_man19 | 12:34 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Typical BYU fans writing hate-Utah posts. Fact is, BYU football is a joke. You couldn't find one single NCAA football analyst to rate BYU over Utah. BYU had a few good years in the 80's then it ended. Utah has better talent, a better scheme, better facilities, better fans, more history, you name it.

BYU dweebs give up, this argument is over. There is nothing you can say to change the reality-UTAH is superior. Always will be.

Don't tell me about winning "the conference" that means absolutely nothing.
yewtsrnogood | 12:34 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
I played with his brother Sale (pronounced saw-lay) at Idaho State. He was good. Not as good as he thought, he plays for the New Orleans Voodoo.

I watched his film. He is the same player, just a little bigger. His brother had great hands, was just on the slow side for a D-1 receiver, was very strong and did better with a db who liked to push and pull, had a great vertical, and was automatic in the red zone (because of being so strong and having a great leap)

I'm a huge cougar fan and I won't worry about him (because of speed) until the U gets in the redzone, then we have a problem. Watch his film you'll know what I mean.

But he won't be a gamebreaker outside of the redzone. Mark my words, he will score lots of touchdowns.
Ute grad | 12:37 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Regarding all the speculation about why he is transfering to the U of U, did anyone think that maybe it's because the U has the better program for what he wants to study? Heaven forbid he make a move like that. As far as the speculation that he can't handle the honor code at BYU, anyone could comply with that. Drink, DUI, dope yourself up on narcotics, self medicate, and let's not forget the BYU football team from about 4 years ago, you know, the team that got charges dropped because a Utah county jury didn't think it wastheir job to determine guilt (admitted by the jury forperson in an interview). So what if this new guy has a 5 star rating. Maybe he will live up to it next season, maybe he will choke. Just wait and see. At least we don't already know about a criminal &/or juvie record for him like BYU recruits/"athletes".
TheHailstorm | 12:39 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
I just looked at the recruits for BYU.. most are untested high scholl students.. way to burn up the schlorship offers on guys that can't shave !
I'm sure Mendenhall playde the Go or Guilt card on the impressionable youth.
LDS Ute fan | 12:59 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
So much of these posts are just more proof that there are few true Cougar fans, they are only Ute haters!

This kids story sounds a little familiar. A receiver who had a lot of promise as a freshman, screwed up, went to JC and then back to D1 football. Maybe he is actually related to Reno Mahe. The only differences are that Reno was KICKED OUT of BYU, and he went back to the school that he was a reject from.
Proud Ute | 1:00 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Y fans,

Year in and year out we dominate in recruiting. This is well documented (rivals, scout, recruit.net, etc.) secondly, the experts agree (holtz, patrick, fowler, and many more).

You zoobs are clearly just insane ly jealous. I get it though, being second rate and second fiddle in your home state is hard. Especially after you dominated in the early, early 80's for a few seconds.

This is just another example of how much superior Utah Football is and will BE! Get over it.
re: utah_man19 | 1:02 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Lets look at what you said. Utah has better talent. go to scout.com and see who has a better freshman class? (Advantage BYU) Utah has a better scheme. Last two years BYU 2 Utah 0. (Advantage BYU) Utah as better facilities. How is your indoor practice field? How big is that little stadium? (Advantage BYU) Utah has a better fans. Even in the three down years under we had more fans at each game then you stadium can hold over 55,000. Utah has a couple bad games they stop going all together. Call any local sports radio other then call 700 and all would say BYU has more dedicated fans. I say at least 60%-70% of so called UTAH fans are really just BYU haters. (Advantage BYU) Your next point UTAH has more history. BYU has a national championship and around 20 conference championships. It is funny you do not thing that means anything considering UTAH as 3 or 4. (Advantage BYU)
MN Cougar | 1:03 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Utah_man19, please look up "delusional" in the dictionary, you may find it very applicable to the ludicrous claims in your post. But hey, thanks for giving me a good laugh today.
BYU Grad in Boise | 1:11 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Utah can have him. He has 5 star talent and a 1 star
head. BSU wins the Fiesta Bowl by 2 touchdowns if the ball does not go off of his leg. BSU was always talking him up, but he could never crack the line-up. BSU's offense is a wideout's dream. If you can not commit yourself in a program like BSU, how can you expect to be motivated in any other program of similar caliber? Take it from someone who has attended every home, spring game, and practice open to the public at BSU for the last 6 years. This is a waste of a scholarship.
Re: Proud Ute | 1:15 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
You mentioned being insanely jealous? Of what? Losing 3 games to MWC foes including getting blown out by UNLV? Squeeking by a poor Navy team in a meaningless bowl game? Barely filling a quarter of the stadium at the bowl game? Not getting the MWC championship? Blowing a 4th and 18 play? You're right, I guess there is a lot to be jealous about.
utah_man19 | 1:23 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Attention detractors,

You forgot to bring up the Fiesta Bowl year. If we are going to base everything on deep dark past history then maybe you can brag about one or two worthless-Wac championships. Which you got by paying the refs and using the missionary program to your advantage. However, the reality is Utah is a BCS champ and the BCS is everything is college football these days. It gives the Utes all the credibility they need to be considered the power of the MWC.

All you dumb zoobs can do is say 1984 and conference this conferece that. Get it in you heads that the conference is lousy, winning it doesn't prove anything. BCS baby and talent that is what matters. DUHH
Dear Little Brother | 1:24 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Can't we all just get along. We should worry less about the JC and cast off recruits we are getting and more about how we can get out of this garbage conference and TV deal we are in.

Let us forget about our differences for just a minute or two (your new recruit can "make it rain" at the North End on Friday night and play on Saturday and we think the one who actually makes it rain likes us more and helps us win) and focus on what is holding us both back, the MWC.

We need to start talking about how we can help eachother and elevate our cause together and take the best rivalry in the country somewhere it actually means something.

Come on little bro lets stop all the name calling and back bitting and fight the good fight together.

Quote from the Straw Man- Wizzard of Oz. "I can talk even though I don't have any brains." Some of the people that talk the most don't have any brains either." Can't we just get along? Utes- Be happy with your promising recruit. Cougs- Be happy the Snow kid decided to walk on at BYU turning down Boise, Cal and Utah.
re: utah_man19 | 1:27 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
I my post I made a mistake. I should of said "It is funny you do not think winning a conference championship means anything considering UTAH has only won 3 or 4.

LDS Ute fan:
Let say BYU has only one conference game left and it was vs. TCU. If BYU wins Utah would win the conference. I would say about 80% of so called UTAH fans would want BYU to win. If the situation was revised only 10 to 15% of BYU fans/UTAH haters would want UTAH to lose.
Utah is winning | 1:31 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Based on what I am reading Utah has better arguments too. Perhaps it is because of the superior education we get at the U ( of U ) that is. I don't care what BS facts the "down southers" pull out U of U is so superior to BYU in academics. IT shows
re: utah_man19 | 1:39 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
If conference or national championship(s) mean nothing as you stating in your post, then what exactly is your definition of history?

To discredit BYU's run in the late 70's to mid 90's as "a few good years" is like a "BYU dweebs" discrediting your BCS run of '04

This recruit is a big get for Utah, no doubt, but just food for thought, he was lightly recruited out high school and was only a 2 star athlete who couldnt break the 2 deep at BSU. Maybe he has improved dramatically, or maybe he was playing against weaker competition in JC.

Finally, the only "analyst" that has mentioned anything positive about Utah over BYU is Lou Holtz, the same Holtz who predicted a 10 win season for Notre Dame.
Must be good! | 1:42 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Love it,Key must be a great player if it is bringing out the "true BYU" fans and their classy comments (worth the five stars already). The last time I heard this much chatter from cosmo was "finger gate"...BYU fans love to hate.

PS Rivals has Key as a three star, come on cougs if your going to hate at least use the correct facts.
Good for Keyes | 1:45 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
I give Utah props for giving this kid a chance to prove himself. As a BYU fan and with major connections to U of U recruiting, I know they worked hard to get this kid. To say BYU never wanted him to begin with is just ignorant. Just because a school doesnt openly recruit a player doesnt mean that they aren't good enough. Maybe, just maybe, the kid didnt want to play in Provo. For us to be so proud and teach our kids of agency, we sure are quick to judge people because their decisions. Give Utes props, let them build up their receiving corp, let them boast of a 5 star recruit, because it will be that much more gratifying to beat them.
Good for "Good for keys" | 2:01 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
"Good for Keys" is the only sane Y fan on this blog. It is nice to see that at least one Zoob has a brain and can agree with everything that is being said by wise Ute fans. You agree with us, now all you have to do is join us. Come on over, red rover.

But many here just want to speculate and spread hate and discontent.

Please get a life and let this athlete live his ...Losers.

Go play football wherever you want young man because many here have never stepped on the field and never will... but they are happy to be worthless critics.

This has been such a blast getting all you Utah fans riled up over nothing. Let's do it again for the next article... I will stop now so that you don't need your heart medication. Please watch for signs of stroke.
Sincerely,
Faithful Cougar!
Good recruit | 2:22 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
With a good recruit like Keyes I'm sure the Utes will now be able to claim an outright 3rd place finish in the MWC next season instead of being tied for 3rd.
scholarship | 2:26 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
I'll bet the U had to promise this guy a scholarship to get him to come play for them. BYU can get top receivers to walk on.
reply: utah man19 | 2:27 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Are you kidding? You must be the most delusional yoot fan on earth or incredibly uninformed. Here are some yoota football facts for you delusion....

NCAA analyst? Please...BYU current rank 17 BCS, 19 AP. Utah not mentioned in the top 35 of any poll

Better talent? check out the W/L records over the yrs. How many times has yoota been ranked? Once?
This years team is only the 6th in it's history to have 9+ wins in a season. (source SLC Trib)

History- yoota conference champs since 1962 - 5!! 2 WAC titles in 37 yrs, both ties....BYU 22 including 10 straight.

Great fans?....Last year only 2K attended Armed Forces Bowl, this yr. only 5K of 10K allotted tickets sold. University ate the rest.

The ONLY sellout at rice/eccles is when BYU comes to town. Because BYU fans fill the seats. You didn't even sell out when 11th ranked UCLA came to town.

Before 1992 Yoota went 28 yrs w/out going to a bowl!

Yoota football has no relevance outside SLC and then barely any. Only in a conversation about "can we beat BYU this year". It's all you live for

GridiornSam | 2:36 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
First of all, Lenny Gomes learned a valuable lesson in college. That being, that you can marry more money in 30 minutes than you can make in a lifetime. So if he's pumping anyone's gas, it's as a hobby. Lenny is a good kid who said something funny, and has gone down in rivalry lore. Good for him.

About this recruit. I trust that the Utah staff knows what they are doing. If he had some academic issues at Boise State, that shouldn't be held against him now. Kids have known to mature a lot when they go through some adversity, and some learn some lessons. Cougar fans need not turn any further than their own beloved Harvey Unga who was breaking the BYU Honor Code in all kids of areas after he signed his LOI with the school. They still took him back into the fold after he worked through it.
So on paper this looks like a big pick-up for the Utes. They add more size, speed and athleticism at wideout, which is important since they are losing Richards and Hernandez--both speedy guys. But Key adds the size element too. And 5-Stars!
MN Cougar | 2:38 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Utah_man19, youre hilarious. You say all BYU championships and history are junk because the conference stinks while the U is some sort of National Power because of one great season (also played in the same stinky conference). Im guessing your next claim will be that tithing money was used to pay the refs. Also, you dont need to put your IQ score in your name; we get the gist by reading your enlightening comments.
Ernest T. Bass | 2:45 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
He must not have wanted to win a Nat Champ like we did in nineteen eighty four. We will win another one in two thousand and nine with Coach Bronco Mendenhall.

Really surprising the attitude expressed by so many of those posting comments. Too many people listening to Jim Rome. I guess "talking smack" is the trend of our time.

I don't believe people would talk so rudely were it not for the anonymity the internet provides.

I've got no problem with Utah and BYU fans taking some shots at each other. But I think it can be done with a reasonable degree of respect and decorum. Would you really talk that way if you were talking face to face with someone?
utah_man19 | 3:37 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
After all that has been said I must lay down my Ace if you will. Settle all the debate an discord. While some advantage on the football field may have been gained my the zoobs at certain moments, the University has remained far, far superior in every area. What are athletic programs for it not to lend to the overall success of the School. Football does not stand alone. Therefore, Utah does rule after all because its superiority as a University is clear and absolute. Better campus, better faculty, better programs, much much more renown accomplishment shcolastically, more qualified students, better dorms, better food, better you name it!

I win baby!
Go Utes | 3:41 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
All of us BYU fans are truely happy that finally there has been some good news for you this season.

If this floats your boat, great for you all.

I haven't seen any "hate filled" cougar comments, or any comments about the LDS religion, except for Ute guilt trips.

It would help Utah in the long run to get a grip on reality and stop the comparisons against your big brother.

If the Utes want to win more conference titles, my suggestion is get out of the same conference as BYU.

Finally, a WR big enough to get up in the air a grab some passes that Johnson normally throws over everyone elses heads.

Utah's gain is Akron's (a storied program) and Utah State's (didn't they win two games last year) loss.
Grats | 3:51 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
I am a Cougarfan and just want to congradulate Utah on a good recruit. I want the Utes to be as strong as possible when we beat you next year, j/k. I really like the rivalry even when it bring out the jerks on both sides. Good luck next season and HAPPY NEW YEAR to Utes and Cougs alike.
Ernest T. Bass | 3:53 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Utah_man19: You're making zoobs angry. They cannot handle truth & logic and their responses prove they hate Utah more than they like byu. Face it zoobs, you guys are more into the rivaly than Ute fans are, which is why you're on this article's message board to begin with.

Who's winning the recruiting battle? Here are some ratings to consider:

According to Rivals.com, Utah has 1 five star recruit committed, one four star recruit committed, six three star commitments, and -0- two star commitments.

BYU has -0- five star commitments, 1 four star, six three stars, and 10 two stars.

As for prospects, Utah has 4 four star prospects who may yet commit (BYU has 1); Utah has 13 three star prospects (BYU has 3); Utah has 15 two star prospects (BYU has 19).

Looks like Utah is focused more in the 3-4 star area. BYU is looking at 2-3 star prospects.
Ute 19 and Ernest T | 4:44 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Two like minds.

Don't make no sense, but don't matter anyhow.

Tied for third in conference.

Nice showing.
Cougar Fan | 4:48 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Good for Key to get back into FBS. Yet, if the kid couldn't hack Boise State, that pillar of academic excellence, I am skeptical he'll survive Utah's more rigorous standards. OF course, how did that last castoff, Poston, work out for you Utah?

I wish the kid well. It's interesting how you Ute fans rag on BYU for picking up a JC All-America safety who turns down a scholie to Cal and Boise State to walk on and play where his heart lies with BYU.

And to "Anonymous," it's already on record that Utah has the best non-bcs talent, but where does talent get you without good coaching? It gets you 9-4 with a shut out at UNLV and a loss to BYU, your hated rival, which goes 11-2 and will be the BCS busting darling next season.
Ernest T Bass / 19 | 5:11 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
You kids know truth and logic can't be found in any of your posts.

At least you have that third place tie in conference to try to work on.

It would be cool to score on UNLV next year.

Go Utes!!!
A good recruit? | 5:17 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Ths guy is soooo good that BSU barely used him and then didn't try to get him back after his JC career? And yewt fans are all excited about this? It's easy for many players to look good at the jc level but I'm sure that won't be the case with this guy and he'll win the Heisman...(*cough* *cough*)...

Why didn't you post my comment? I guess it did not go through the church's sanitation machine to make sure that the members dont think for themselves. I did not swear, I did not speak ill of others, well no more than your presious members are doing all over this sorry excuse of a newspaper. I love freedom of speach. Try it out some time Deseret News, and the Mormon Church for that matter. It is what this country is built upon, but I guess sense you think of yourselves as the "country of Deseret" then you dont have to live by the laws of this land. HYPOCRITS!
danburtreynolds | 5:57 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007
Actually, he is a rivals 3 star recruit, it was updated about 2 weeks ago. From his highschool rankings on rivals he was a 3 star rated athlete. The 5 stars he has now are by Scout, based on his performance in JC. Just want to set the facts straight.
