THE PEOPLE HERE IN UTAH/SLC HAVE GROWN UP ON THE DOLE OF WELFARE, THEIR CHILDREN SAY MOM AND DAD MADE IT ON WELFARE WHY CAN'T WE DO THE SAME
BOTTOM LINE
THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO DO SOMETHING/ CLEAN THE HIGHWAY'S SHOVEL SNOW DO SOMETHING IN ORDER TO GET WELFARE , AND YOU CAN ONLY GET IT FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME 6-8 MONTH'S AFTER THAT SEE YA !!!!!
THERE IS A GREYHOUND LEAVING THE STATE IN ABOUT 2 HOUR'S
MAKE THE EMPLOYER'S PAY A WAGE THAT IS ABOVE POVERTY LEVEL TO EVERY WORKER
This is exciting. I'd love to see Becker's agenda on how to tackle the rising costs of riding the bus and TRAX (fares are going up again in January) and what the city can do to help with the affordable housing situation here in the city.
Anderson just towed the UTA line and never effectively advocated for cheap transit in Salt Lake. Sure, TRAX is great but if you can't afford to use it - there is no point. With the latest round of UTA increases, Anderson just sat by. Now we're saddled with 2.00 for a one way ticket by 2009? Give me a break...
You can force employers to pay more, but you can't force people to show up for work. Been there!
Rocky and his senior staff were VERY supportive of producing affordable housing at the same time the Bush administration was saying it wanted to end chronic homelessness AND cutting HUD and VA budgets -- the VA budget for treating homeless and mentally ill vet during a time of war!!!!!!
The three projects mentioned in the article are perfect examples of community partnerships formed around the effort and vision of the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City.
I sincerely hope Ralph picks up where Rocky left off.
Rocky supports affordable housing? Why has the city never come out with a housing plan for his whole time in office? He may have watched while the housing authority built some big, institutionalized structures for a few dozen people but there is less low income housing in the city now than before he was elected. His poverty agenda beyond housing is even less impressive.
I think Rocky has been a real leader on environmental issues and I am proud that my Mayor was willing to call the Iraq was a mistake long before the national Democratic leaders felt the poll numbers made doing so safe but he has not been a leader on poverty issues. I hope he is a big enough person to have some regrets about that.
The one I would like to see Becker work is UTA
Destructuction of the Bus System. The Light Rail is
moving full speed ahead, the destruction of the bus
system has assumed alarming proportions. The "Choice
Rider"- who already has a car- is Privileged, whereas
"Transit Dependent"- the working class, the elderly,
the high school students, the disabled-are discriminated against. UTA needs to start dealing with the growth in Salt Lake County and expansion of the Bus System UTA needs to start working with
cities on barrier free, benches and shelters.UTA is
of losing the Sales Tax Money.
What the poor really want is a free ride at taxpayer expense. They always want more, more, more. Why not get them a good paying job to be self reliant? Then they can add to the community and not take.
Wyoming. One day you maybe in those shoes. I had agreat paying job for 30 years. Then the layoffs came and just who was the first to go? The old timers that made to much money. The did not care about anything except the bottom line. So you want to keep your job in rough times DO NOT GET TO TOP OF THE PAY SCALE.
Yeah, amen to Wyoming. "Government to the Rescue!" That is the wrong approach. We've been given agency as humans to decide for ourselves what course we will take and to overcome the burdens of life. We as humans also have the charge to take care of the poor and needy. However, GOVERNMENT DOES NOT HAVE THAT RESPONSIBILITY! This is another example of the the government stealing from one set of taxpayers and giving to those who don't. Shame on Becker for entertaining this group of clowns.
