Way to fire up the team Weddle!
Good luck to Weddle and the San Diego Chargers.
The Utes did us proud with another Bowl Victory!
This game was what college football is all about. Both teams fought hard and played clean. Both teams offensive and defensive squads never gave up to the final end. Both teams should be proud of representing their schools in an exciting game.
Congrats UTES.....in getting the MWC off to a great Bowl season start. Lets make it 5-0 for the MWC.
That was a bad call when Jerome Brooks hit the pylon, but nothing can be taken away from Utah since their not the ones doing the officiating.
If the call was reversed and Navy gets the ball on the 20, they are still going to run the same four plays as they did backed against their goaline. They would still end up turning the ball over on downs and Utah now would just need to get one first down from the 28 yard line instead of the score and the game is over. Ultimately the bad call would have had little effect on the outcome of the game.
Either way Congradulations to Utah for the win and keeping the streek going at seven, and also congradulations to Navy for a tough played game.
Great win Utes! Now let see if the cougars can do the same.
Seven cupcakes, seven wins! Yawn!!!!!
Another big play given up by the defense at the end of the game, nearly cost the Utes another... This time, however, they held on for the Win. What's up with the defense?
Kudos to the Utes on a good win against an improving Navy team. It was an exciting game to watch. I hope that Lou Holtz's insidious comments -- I know he meant it as a compliment, but it really wasn't -- about the Utes having the "best non-BCS defense" kurdles someone's milk and stirs up a hornet's nest. Of other college games I've watched this season, including BCS schools, I've not seen a better defense than the Utes have. Congrats on 7 straight bowl wins!
Re: Blown Call - To say that Navy would have run the same plays from their 20 as they did from the 1 foot line is ludicrous. That was a momentum changing situation. It's disappointing that a professional officiating crew with the benefit of replay can't get that call right! Utah still might have won, but we'll never know. Utah's got a BYU bounce on that one!
I have to admit that is was a fun game (3 quarters really) to watch, but Utah barely got by an average Navy team. Is Utah the best non-BCS team in the country? No, way. They tied New Mexico for 3rd place in the MWC.
Brian Johnson had the best game I have seen him play since he hurt his knee, but he only led the offensive side. I think the defense lit the fire by forcing Navy to punt three consecutive times. Brian and the whole offense definitely capitalized on the opportunities, and the TEAM won the game.
Congrats to the players and coaches.
Hate the stinks. I'll admit they are good in bowl games. Congrats Stinks.
I can't believe we beat Navy by only 3 lousy points! It should have been 3 td's! Navy is one dimensional (they run) and should have been easy to stop. That was ridiculous they got that last td on a big play and then recovered the onside kick. We were lucky they decided to try a pass on their last possession instead of going with their strength which would have let them tie it up or get the win. Whit is supposed to be this great defensive mind yet he couldn't stop them enough to win by a bigger (safer) margin. No conference championships, 2 losses in a row to byu, inexplicable losses to weaker MWC teams, embarrassing coaching decisions, narrow wins over weak bowl opponents = Whit must go!
yeah seven wins...the last one with an astrisk
Cupcakes or not 7-0 Who is your team? I am guessing the Cougs by the sound of it. We know what their record is against "cupcakes". Besides we all know the BCS hosed the UTES by giving them Pitt. If Utah gets Auburn and wins then they would have had the right to say A National Championship was deserved. That is not Utahs Fault they are victims of the System
losing bowl record, yawn.
what Lou Holtz said was that they had the most talent, not the best defense. there is a difference.
If the Utes win 5 more bowl games in a row, they'd be 12-0, and perhaps they could get a bid to the mythical "bowl championship" bowl (wink-wink).
I believe Holtz's comment was that Utah had the best personnel of nay non-BCS team. That would be high praise for recruiting, not so high for coaching.
Apparantly, you didn't read the comments from Keaku-Enhada when he said they would have run the same plays. also, to Whit must go, yeah, you always fire 9-4 coaches with the injury situation as it was at Utah this year. if not for Calhoun's great year at Air Force, Whit would arguably be coach of the year.
It appeared that the pylon was sitting out of bounds. Agree? That made the call and replay really interesting. Clearly a fumble, but....
