And Beck is still crying!!
I was at the game, including the warmups, and never saw those silly zoobies playing with their little airplane. I find it ironic that for a group of fans that are "soooo not obsessed" with their rivals, would spend all that time and energy on a neat-o plane ride. This will be a great moment to share in the BYU 385th ward newsletter.
It's great to see a player who saw his playing time diminished early in the season when Robert Johnson and R.J. Stanford moved ahead of him at safety and nickelback finish the year so strongly. He was the defensive player of the game tonight, which is remarkable considering he usually only got in 5-8 plays a game during the season.
Ok, if I hear one more comment from a BYU fan about how Utah is the "little brother" or that Utah fans only care about one game a year or that All Utah fans care about is beating BYU or that Utah has an "inferior complex"...
I'll give it to the BYU fan, that is pretty impressive to put on such an event for the support of a football team, but it was at a stadium featuring Utah vs. Navy. I think BYU fans are the ones with the obsessions and inferior complex. I've never seen fans so excited about needing last second plays to beat a team they were expected to beat and don't even care about beating.
In the spirit of the topic though, maybe at the LV Bowl we will be privileged to see banners that say:
"Harline is still open...for employment"
"BYU Football: 6-6 Bowl Opponents, where Champions are made"
You must have a typo - I think you meant that ute fans are still crying.
That has been the story of the season for Utah. Young players stepping up to make a play when it was needed. What a fitting ending that a player who previosly had little playing time seals the deal for Utah. Great job Joe! I am looking forward to watching you play for the next couple of years.
BYU fans like to tell Ute fans that we are their "little brother" and we are "obsessed" with them while they are the "big brother" and Utah is just "another opponent" to them.
I've maintained for 15 years that this just isn't so. Perhaps during theh 80's they had a point but it hasn't been that way since around 1993.
BYU fans, just admit that Utah is something different than "just another game" or "just another opponent" for your side too. It's not that hard to do and your actions clearly indicate it is true.
It's not bad to admit this is a rivalry and the game and opponent mean a little more than the other games and opponents on the schedule. If it's the truth, why deny it?
Not since Chris Hale has a player got more mileage out of single play than Joe Dale. Dale let Navy's pitch man run wild all night because he couldn't stay home on his assignment. "Must...tackle...quarterback..."
I'll have to admit that the plane banner is a little over the top, but it's also kind of funny. I'm also kind of surprised that some of our fans would go to that much effort to do something like that. Both 06-07 games had great endings but to make a plane banner out of it? It made me laugh a little, but it's also like "okay lets do something else with our lives." I like most of our fans, but some can be kind of retarded. Most Ute fans are okay too (except a select few of them, too).
Dear "MessageFromAbove?" To tell you the truth, I would rather BYU move on to bigger and better things. Like the Big XII, or start a new Conference where their little brother "Utah" might be invited to join with Boise State, Hawaii, Fresno State, New Mexico, Colorado State, Maybe Florida Atlantic, it's a growing school! Let's make a Power Conference of our own that will be BCS eligable within a few years! I would rather be in the Big 12 and push for greater things! That way we wouldn't have to worry about dragging little brother from conference to conference with us wherever we go. Just break away and see what happens to your program without us! You don't even sell out and your stadium holds what about 20,000 less than ours, and your city is how much bigger? Then again if we would not have lost to Tulane, and would have beaten UCLA the first time guess what, I know where we would be, A BCS BOWL GAME, so we don't have anyone to blame but ourselves! Those are the facts of the matter. So we will be happy in Vegas, and know we will do better next year!
I was at the tail-gate and saw the plane fly over. No one thought it was funny. It was kind of pathetic, like someone pouting because they weren't invited to the party. Don't you BYU fans have your own party to go to? We all know that you are not as cool as the Utes, but you can have fun in your own way....by yourselves. Oh yeah...GO BRUINS!
I think BYU lost to Tulsa this year, not Tulane.
And you know what? If Utah hadn't lost to Oregon State, AFA, UNLV, and BYU, they would have been in a BCS game too. The problem is you have to win them all, not all but two.
The banner was classic. It was clever and after all it's just part of the rivalry.
Good to see I'm not the only one that wonders why coug fans are so excited about winning games on last second drives that they are favored to win in the first place. Honestly, if Utah had won on a last second drive in '04, I certainly wouldn't brag about it. Thankfully, the Ute team of '04 showed what a real BCS team can do- destroy a rival team. This plane thing certainly does reveal an inferiority complex that has built up in provo over the past decade of Ute success. Oh, and CougarKeith, good luck doing better next year (The only way you'll do better than the Utes next year is if you luck out again like this year and we get hit hard by the injury virus).
As a commentator of the game, Lou Holtz correctly stated that Utah IS the BEST non-BCS team in the nation. So BYU fanz - including Johnnie and Austin can cry with Beck.
