Giri is a freaken winer. If you're gona play on jerry sloans teams, you can't be a little winer like he is. Sloan could care less about making jumpers. he wants someone who can play d-fense!! If you can't play the D, then you'll be riding the pine. Jerry Sloan is old school. His teams play as a team, and everone plays d-fense, unlike the nuggets allen iverson and t-mac, and other overpaid ball hogs.

giri...... you are a role player. get that in your head. you want to be the star, but you are only a role player. so deal with it.

Fire Sloan?? Seriously?? Here's the facts...

Sloan is a HALL OF FAME coach. Thats not me talking, anyone who knows basketball will tell you.

Giri is a worthless waste of space, especially in Sloans system. The sad thing is that his shooting is what the Jazz need, but his attitude and defense aren't.

I think the jazz will be fine if they can figure out a way to trade all of their dead weight backup guards for one good combo guard. Someone like, say...Derek Fisher.

I think the Jazz are one seviceable veteran guard
away from being an elite contender. The starting five and frontcourt reserves are as good as any in the league.

What I don't understand is how Hart can stink as bad as he does, and still plays, and gets compliments from Sloan about hustle, and yet Giracek so much as looks at Jerry wrong, and Jerry is benching Giracek.

Gira isn't shooting any worse than Hart. In fact, Gira is shooting better than Hart. But no, Gira is the "bad attitude player"?

Sloan has done emormous good for the Jazz over the years. But sometimes, I have to wonder about his decisionmaking. What has Hart done to earn Jerry's favor??

blow up the team and start fresh.
I agree with Soupe from MD | 3:01 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
The problems for the Jazz start with their so-called role players. We don't have a back up PG (Hart is absolutely terrible). No back up Center (Collins is the least skilled player in NBA history, he has a 2 inch vertical). And our backup 2 guards are really bad. I can't stand Giri. CJ is okay, just not developed yet.

Brewer should be playing about 40 minutes a game.

D-Will and Booz can only carry this team on their backs for so long. They need help, and a lot of it!

It's not on the coach, it's not on the players, Mo pete hit 7 three pointers but he is in NO, Derek Fisher is in LA. Sacramento didn't want our big free agent pick ups. Call out the Jazz Management!!! We are worse than last year because of our off seasons moves. P.S. Jerry stop clapping and make some adjustments PLEASE!!!!!! and call a time-out once in awhile. No time-out with 30 seconds left is brutal especially when you call one with 14 seconds left after we screwed up!! repent and change your ways.

Fire the Farmer...Get rid of the dead weight on the team...that would be the whole team minus Boozer, Williams and Millsap...Build the team around the paperboy and be done with it.
I never thought they would be this bad..

Mr Sloan is NOT a hall of fame coach. Get that straight. He MAY be some day. Right now he is not. Hall of famers are politically selected. He is not now a famer.

He can and should be replaced. He should want to do the right thing. Resign.

Portland has the youngest team in the league. The young Jazz should be making a dent this year like they are. (Making clear and definite improvement over last year's performance).

Kinda hard given the changes and limitations of the summer acquisitions. "I can't worry about that, I have to play who I have" Come on coach - I want results. It's your job to see that the Jazz produce on the floor.

A coach makes a tremendous contribtion to the success of the team and to the growth, development and confidence of the individual players.

Good arguements on here both ways. Let me argue both ways.

Someone listed on here that last year was a fluke and to a degree it was. When Fisher was here he rallied this team together many times. When Miller spouted off at the team in the media Fisher told him that the team did not need his negativity and if he was not going to be supportive then shut up and Miller did as well as the coaches backed off. It also has taken three guys to replace Fisher(Brewer, Hart, Price). Fisher might not have shot the ball well but teams guarded him because of his past he was a threat in there mind. Because of Fisher and Memo they busted up the zone and that opens the picknroll. Jazz have no three point threat at all. Brewer has great inside game and okay mid range jumper. Hart and Price well you know. With Memo out and no shooter all the opposing team has to do is pack the middle and attack the picknroll at the end of a game. The offseason aquistions did not move up a step we actually tok one back. Poor management top to bottom

everyone who thinks that we shouldve traded okur, you are wrong. first off, who would we get for him, second , look at the record we are with and without okur. we have won all of our games except two without him.

To Tyler:
Who said anything about Phil Jackson? Phil JOHNSON is currently an assistant coach for the Jazz, and has been a head coach for an nba team (in the past). He has done a great job filling in for Jerry when Jerry couldn't be the coach (suspended for a few games, etc) and seems to me to be the obvious choice to succeed Sloan when he leaves. He relates well to the players, and knows how to switch strategies when the current strategy is not working; but for some reason is being overlooked by most folks because he doesn't care about being "in the spotlight".
I've fallen and I can't get up | 4:03 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Remember when Stephen A. Smith commented right before the Knicks' first round draft pick two years ago that "I'M A BORN AND RAISED NEW YORKER, OK? YOU HAVE GOT TO GET A DOG ON THIS ROSTER, I DON'T CARE WHERE YOU FIND HIM. I DON'T CARE, YOU GOT TO GET SOMEONE WHO WILL BE IN PEOPLE'S FACE, SOMEONE WHO'S HARDCORE."

The Knicks then drafted Renaldo Balkman, which caused Stephen A. to say for the first time in his life "I'm almost speechless."

Well now its the Utah Jazz who need a "DOG ON THIS ROSTER!" It was obvious all last season. Little intensity and hustle outside of Milsap, and no one to shut down the opposing team's 2 or 3. And what do we go and get in the offseason, Ronnie Price and Jason Hart? Are you kidding me!

LHM, listen to me ... go get a dog, someone with heart, someone who's hardcore and will put a body on you, someone who'll dive on the floor for a loose ball, who brings energy every second they're on the floor, who can actually play a little defense and make an occasional shot from the outside.

Do it PLEASE!

I think the Jazz would be making a grave error if they don't let Phil have a shot at it when Jerry leaves.

Reason Jazz are losing is Sloan lets a man double down on defense and leaves the three point shot open. Start watching for it and you will see it happen all the time. It cost us 2 Titles and will not allow the Jazz to ever rise above an average team. Right now if the playoffs were to start we would not be in.
Alex Baker | 4:32 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Trade Giricek now, he has never done anything good for us anyways...

Gira, you are the weakest link. Good bye.
Jazzsmack | 4:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
First stckton and malone didn't win an nba championship because they were not the best team, they not even the second best team, indiana was better than them in those years.

Second it not a european player problem. It is a sloan system problem.

Sloan doesn't like shooting guards who slike to shoot the ball.

In sloans system deron and boozer get all the points and glory and all the good treatment all the benefits, no matter how bad they play defense.

They other players don't, not gira, not ak, not even horny did.

But if you do exactly what tyrant sloan wants, like collins, then no matter how bad a layer you are, you are ok with sloan.

common Sense | 5:03 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Trade Gira and Collins for what? Another team's ballboy? Michael Vick?
PapaCorn | 5:12 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Yeah, that Giracek is the biggest problem facing a team that has lost 8 of its last 9 games.

If you ask me, this is such a non-story. You're all clamoring to trade a reserve guard that isn't even contributing to the team. Trade him for what? Another guard that won't be used except to ride the pine?

Sloan has a freaking bad attitude with anyone that doesn't follow his every direction. His temper gets the best of him and he sends these grown men home. Think back to all the times he's had to be held back from his own players or sent them to the locker room early. I don't know of any other coach that treats his players like children.

For Sloan to act like Norman Dale in Hoosiers in the middle of a bad losing streak is really ill-timed.

Sure Giracek was saying something to press Sloan's buttons but Sloan needs to relax a little. It really is embarrassing.

Coach Solution | 6:16 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Trust me Phil Johnson is no replacement! He has been around so long around with Jerry, that he walks like Sloan, Talks like him, and is getting gray hair with Sloan! He is a splitting image of Sloan. Also, you say trade, Collins, Giri, Memo etc. but name realistic players that could help our team. Who's out there that would help? That we could make a trade for. And no wise guy come on and say, KG, TMac or Kobe.
Interesting | 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Mike W., that's a great point. Malone, and even Stockton, put a little fear into opposing players hearts. I could see that's how the Bulls beat us was because Jordan, Pippen and PhilJax didn't fear Malone, Stockton nor Sloan. They played against teams like the Bad Boys of Detroit back in the day. No team was as dirty or as physical as those teams. After playing and defeating the great teams you kind of lose that fear of new great teams.

The Jazz have no enforcer to speak of. They have no guy that fires up the team when they're looking sad or defeated. I thought that's what Fisher did. Despite not always playing well, Fisher always seem to project confidence that we could win any and every game no matter what. Look at how many games we came back from 15+ points down and won the game? We led the league in that category.
Interesting | 7:31 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007

I also think Dee Brown contributed greatly with his boundless energy. Price was some of that but Sloan never plays him. Hart is more controlled and could potentially be better once he gets into the flow of this offense. However, Dee really got the crown into it. It didn't matter where we played. Once he got into the game, the speed of the game doubled. Of course, he was usually out of control until later in the year, but I thought he improved a lot in one year. The Jazz didn't give him enough time to prove his worth.
Scapegoat | 2:31 a.m. Dec. 21, 2007
1. If we trade Giri we would need a scapegoat. Last few reserved players we let go for free became useful players on other teams.
2. Lets just spread the rumor that Sloan likes defensive players [he dislikes AK, Ostertag was a decent defensive player, Sloan liked Foster Sloan likes Collins who cannot defend anyone grab a rebound. He just flops and annoyingly pushes other players. Its just foul-play].
3. Let just blame it on a player who did not play for the most part [Giricek or Memo].
4. DW is the biggest Sloan defender [he ripped AK, now says stuff on the Giri event]. Sloan likes to be buttered. DW is getting his max.
5. For any other team, failure responsibility has to do with GM or coach. For Jazz it is the 9th or 10th player who did not get any minutes.. If Giricek would be playing like Jordan, how could Jazz loose. Its not Sloan's fault that Giricek did not work hard. Jazz fans love cool-aid of "players did not play hard".
