America simply does not have the kind of money that
would be required for such a monumental task as sealing off borders and rounding up zillions of people and punishing them as our law-of-the-landers are demanding.
jfrazier | 9:03 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Hey "Whose land?",

It belongs to those who currently hold possession of it. Lands such as the Americas are inhabited and civilized (however you define that) at the cost of the local indigenous population. It has always been this way so get over it. We have laws in this land whether you believe in their legitimacy or not.

As for me, I welcome all legal immigrants from Mexico or elsewhere. I am only opposed to those that don't honor the laws of the land, regardless of whether they are current citizens or not.
Anonymous | 9:19 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
We don't want them punished... just send them home!

If we as citizens would stop turning a blind eye for whatever reason, then we could "afford" to send them back. In fact we as a nation cannot afford to keep them. Our schools are suffering, health care is overwhelmed, affordable housing is becoming scarce and the police cannot be there for every crime committed. We should stand up for our citizens, our laws and those who want to come here legally to be a PART of our melting pot; we can fight this apparent invasion.

No other country would ever permit the mass-migration we have allowed.

FYI
This isnt about being Arian you dont know the color of my skin.

The reality is that these people are already here, doing jobs most US citizens would'nt do.
There are far more US citizens benefiting from illegal workers than there are being hurt by them.
Seriously, just try going a week, no, 1 day without using a product that was in part produced by an illegal worker.
Just imagine if not none of them showed up for work.
Who would pick the crops, work the slaughter houses,
or work in the factories.
Is anyone reading this post willing to give up their job to take this type of work, for that kind of money?
Don't fool yourself, we all benefit in some way by having illegals do this work, and they are happy to do it. They suffer unimaginable hardships just to do these jobs our entire country benefits from.
Ask yourself "How have I personally been hurt by these people people being here?"
I hope it's more than just being forced to hear someone struggling with english next time you order a Big Mac.

It is an injustice to the illegal immigrant to have them suffer hardships in this country. You are not helping them.
It is insane to think that we don't have the ability to fill the legitimate jobs they leave behind. I hope you are not trying to lump the migrant workers here with visas and the illegal/undocumented criminals into the same category.
I am all for the seasonal workers. They are here legally. I worked with them in the fields. I have a lot of respect for them. They speak English well and they respect our laws. They are not here to do or distribute drugs. They love their country and their families. They work hard and stay out of trouble. Some others are working on becoming citizens of the USA because they have found a new home here. I think if the illegal ones want to work here and send the money homes... go back home and cross the border LEGALLY!

Well-thought out logic "Live Free."
Unfortunately, the deepest some people can think on this subject is
"what don't you understand about the word Legal?"
The amount of black and/or white thinking is evidence that the powers that be have 'em exactly where they want 'em.
One might as well go outside, find the nearest tree and bang one's head against it rather than expect people who have had their emotional buttons pushed to think rationally and logically.

I do realize alot of the migrant workers are on work visas, I have a friend who hires Peruvians to tend his sheep through this program.
But I think everyone knows not all agriculture hire out their workers like that. If they did there would be alot less problems, but your grocery bill would see a huge increase.
Why do you think ICE targets these industries in their raids.
You can't honestly beleive that there are hundreds of US citizens just waiting for these jobs.
I really don't believe no matter how much government money you appropriate for these border improvements, that it will change anything at all.
The only people it will benefit are the contractors who build the fence. and I would be very surprised if there are no illegals hired by these guys to limit their costs.

There was a time when people of color were out and about in our community and this raised some eyebrows, but it was no big deal.

Today, with the mass-migrations, it has become commonplace to see these same people of color and it's freaking certain types out to where they have lost their minds.

It is NOT about race!
The illegal immigrants were not brought here to be slaves. The illegal immigrants came across the border without invite and they are not being sold. Cry race injustice elsewhere. I don't care where they come from or what their skin color is, if they are here illegally they should be deported.

I and many others would welcome an increase in the cost of lettuce, especially if my health and auto insurance goes down or if I can go to the emergency room and be seen in less than 3 hours.

A thousand pardons Anonymous 3:25 -
But it is highly doubtful anybody on this blog is going to be honest enough to admit their complaints about our Mexican brothers and sisters are race-related.
I would however, respect their total honesty.

Here's a plan
Secure the border
All illegals must register with in 36 months
Once regsistered they are given necessary ID's
They must learn or be enrolled to learn English
After 36 months those registered must
a. Have a job or,
b. Be going to school c. Apllied for citizenship
d. Have a criminal background check from country of origin
e. Become a member of the armed forces
e. Be paying taxes
f. Can only sponsor immediate family members to come into the USA exclude aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. only after becoming U. S. citizens
If after the 36 month period, you are picked up without the proper credentials you are subject to deportation, no exceptions. Tough but fair
I 'll bet if we all set down and worked on a plan similar to this we could find a solution the American people would sign onto. Have a good day.

I don't know what you are talking about???? Elaborate please!
Anonymous | 5:13 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
It is pretty well known Lucy, that this country has huge racial problems.
I thought the Civil War was enough evidence on this.
Fast-forward to blacks being virtually ignored in the Katrina disaster and for good measure (and closer to home) a black man was not allowed the priesthood in the LDS organization until only 30 years ago.
There is an emergence of the notion of a White, Christian, Anglo-Saxon America that is indeed disturbing. We are about as close to a fascist system that I have ever seen.
Need some more data?
Lucy | 5:18 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
I agree with John there needs to be set rules for coming here. It is not up to the illegals to make their own rules. This is not how America is run. All people in the USA have standard rules and laws that we all live by. There is no room for people coming here and arrogantly thinking they have the right to change things. This is why we have a government. Please abide by our laws or don't come here. If people didn't have a government of laws to live by our world would be filled with crime and chaos. Please respect that.

I don't see the prejudice here that you are speaking of. That is past tense. We are all Americans trying to survive the best we can. We all work very hard for a living and survival in the USA. There is no reason we should allow law breakers into our country to take advantage of us. There are many people in the USA dying of cancer because they have no health insurance. How can you come here and take medical treatment free and leave law abiding Americans to die.
Anonymous | 6:00 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
I guess our country is in sheer chaos.
The president of the United States has said, "The Constitution is just a piece of paper."
Sounds to me the laws are all up for interpretation when that sort of thing happens.
What must be respected and ACCEPTED is that though meaning well, (and I wish I had a dime for every blogger who spouts the "law-of-the-land" routine on this subject) the cost to do what they think should be done, ie. mother of all walls built, thousands and thousands of new bureaucrats whose taxpayer jobs will be footing the bill to enforce the troublesome immigration laws, only to find you cannot stop a person whose family is starving and will do anything including clean toilets in hotels and thinking this is The American Way.
A complete change of thinking is in order - or you'll go wacky obsessing about it.
Anonymous | 6:08 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Law-of-the-land ideology sounds good on paper.
In the real world - it's just not that black and white. Why do you think it is that there are 5 times more lawyers than physicians in Utah?
And there is the rub.

COME ON !! LAW ARE ADJUSTEABLE when become obsolete the problem with immigration laws they target specific Race and nationally they are Xenophobic
no change | 7:08 a.m. Dec. 21, 2007
No, the law-of-the-land is the law-of-the-land! This one don't need no changin'!
And I'm tired of you liberals thinkin' every thing is broken when it ain't!

(translation: Even if every Mexican immigrant was delcared "legal" - you would STILL see racial hatred directed towards minorities and "outsiders.")
Parker | 11:18 a.m. Dec. 21, 2007
John 4;40 please join the military? come on half the kids now don't want to join hence the reason we are stretched so thin with this war. If you feel that way maybe you should recurit kids from your church, neighboorhood, school. Get over yourself. and yes I am in the military! AND I FIGHT FOR ALL!
Face the facts, the US can not afford to deport all 12 million immigrants. There are not enough "Americans" to fill all those jobs. I mean come one with our "booming" economy, please (hint of sarcasm) just get used to the fact that one day you wil be the minority. So eventually you will have to fill a job of an "immigrant" so don't worry you will get your jobs back! LOL Enjoy this while you can!
Do ALL politicians lie? | 12:59 p.m. Dec. 21, 2007
How can you trust a man with decisions re: immigration when THIS happens?

As the Boston Globe reports today, Romney told the Boston Herald in 1978: "My father and I marched with Martin Luther King Jr. through the streets of Detroit."

The Romney campaign admits that the claim is false, which means only that it's now time for Romney himself to explain himself.
Jolie | 1:55 p.m. Dec. 21, 2007
To Parker Barker,

Your the one who needs to open your eyes and get off your high horse. Stop placing yourself above everyone and everything around you. You as anyone one else here in this country will have to pay the price for all the illegals coming in. Even the legal immigrants people will find out soon enough whats coming out of there own pockets for these so called brothers and sisters of theirs. We need some real waking up around here.
To Parker....ya sure! | 2:37 p.m. Dec. 21, 2007
I don't believe this parker person is real? It sounds to me like a illegal cover-up! Parker??... Ya right! You need to go back to your own country and find another phony name.
Jon | 3:00 p.m. Dec. 21, 2007
A true American Military person would not ever say what this PARKER guy is saying on here. This Parker is a fake! I agree, Parker sounds extremely illegal to me.

This just goes to show everyone just how dishonest these illegal immigrants really are. What a ashame... We certainly do not need people here like this.
Steve - Re: Carlos | 3:24 p.m. Dec. 21, 2007
The borders ARE open... open to anyone who goes through the proper channels to either visit the United States or to become a legal citizen. Follow the rules and there's no problem. Pretty simple.

With all the flip-flopping, negative campaigning, with a "a vote for Mitt is a vote for Jesus," and now this ...
I think it is time for Mitt Romney to steal away into the darkness.
Jayson | 6:48 p.m. Dec. 22, 2007
What can we say except that the Reverend is a twit if he thinks that Romneys stance on illegal immigration is going to change how many Hispanic votes he gets. The fact is that all those Hispanics that came here legally and can vote aren't all neccessarily on board with the idea of giving those who came here illegally a free pass.

Willard Romney,
You make the usual left wing nut job claim that this is really a racist issue and then make the baseless claim that Romney may be racist purely based on where he served his mission. One has to truly question your thinking when you assume that the rest of us thinks as you do that everyone with an accent, dark skin, and sweating is here illegally. I pity you for actually believeing that we are all narrow minded as some of your friends. Also you should know that unlike our southern border we actually get help securing our northern border. The Canadian government also doesn't publish guides on getting into the US. Anyways good luck living in that demented place you call your world.
